The traditional institution in Ibadanland has rejected defence of an alleged endorsement of Governor Seyi Makinde and the governorship candidate of the Allied People’s Movement ( APM), Bimbo Adekanmbi ahead of the 2027 general elections.
This followed a viral video that purportedly endorsed Makinde for President and Adekanmbi for governor of Oyo state.
A statement jointly made by the President of Ibadan Mogajis, Mogaji Asimiyu Ariori, and the Coordinator of Ibadan Compound Peace Initiative (ICPI), Mogaji Dr. Nurudeen Akinade after the meeting of Association of Mogaji’s in Ibadanland held on Saturday at old Olubadan palace, Ojaba, the leadership of the Ibadan maintained that office of Mogaji should not be subjected to partisan politics, stressing that Mogajis in Ibadanland are expected to be fathers to all.
“At the meeting we held today at the Ojaba where over 200 Mogaji’s in Ibadanland were in attendance and led by the President of Ibadan Mogajis, Mogaji Asimiyu Ariori, we unanimously agreed that as Mogajis, we are the father of all.
“Those that endorsed Governor Makinde and Adekanmbi are doing it on their own because we dont have any business with those behind the endorsement as far as we are concerned.
“We abide with the position of Olubadan, he is our father and he owns the beads on our hands and around our necks, so, whereever Olubadan goes is where we also goes, whatever the position of Olubadan is also our position because we are his subjects.
“Olubadan is our father, we can not work against his interest or his position.”
The Mogajis thanked Engr. Dotun Sanusi for his support both financially and morally, saying his effort can not be over emphasised.
They however warned those forming other groups to desist, sayimg progress and development of Ibadanland must always be their priority above anything .
The traditional leaders said Mogajis are fathers of all politicians” and must maintain our integrity and preserve the beauty of our Olubadan traditional institution
