The Law Firm of Afe Babalola & Co. (Emmanuel Chambers) and the Nigerian Bar Association, Ibadan Branch is set to co-host a football competition.
This was disclosed in a Joint Press Conference by Oluwasina Ogungbade, Deputy Manager Partner at Afe Babalola and Co., Ibadan.
“This is to intimate the general public and particularly the legal community that our Firm in partnership with the Nigerian Bar Association, Ibadan Branch is co-hosting a football competition amongst the Legal Practitioners within the Ibadan Bar famously known as the Premier Bar. The Competition will form part of the Law Week Celebration of the Ibadan Bar which is commencing this week.”Ogungbade said.
It was gathered that the Competition which is known as: AARE AFE BABALOLA, SAN/IBADAN BAR FOOTBALL LEAGUE would be solely sponsored by Afe Babalola & Co. comprising of all their offices in Ibadan, Lagos, Abuja, and Port-Harcourt to celebrate and honour their Founder/Principal: Aare Afe Babalola, OFR, CON, SAN, FNIALS, FCIArb.
Ogungbade said: “We have chosen to use football as a mark of honour for our Founder/Principal because of his love and passion for the game. Our Founder/Principal always finds time to watch good football despite his very busy working schedule.
“This year’s Competition will kick start on Wednesday 17th November, 2021 and will be concluded with the third place and final matches on the 9th of December, 2021 during the course of the Law Week Program. It is a 5-aside football game featuring 12 teams that have been grouped into four groups. All the group matches will be played per day. The Mini Stadium Facility has lighting facilities for matches to be played even in the night. From the three teams per group, two teams will qualify from each group to feature in the Quarter-final matches to be played 22nd and 23rd Nov. The winners will proceed for the Semi-final matches to be played on 26th Nov.
“This is the third edition of the competition and it is going to be a continuous annual event to be held as part of the Law Week Celebration of the Ibadan Bar. This competition will increase the bonding and deepen the friendship amongst Lawyers in the Premier Bar. A cash award of the sum of N250,000 will be given to the winning team; N150,000 to the 2nd place team and N100,000 to the third place team.”
The firm, therefore, invites the general public and all football lovers to come and watch the Lawyers play football. There was the representative of NBA Ibadan Branch in the Joint Conference while Kelly O. Ogbe, Esq., Toyese Owoade and Charity Omotehinse from Afe Babalola & Co were also present.
