Ibadan battle of lawyers : Afe Babalola & Co thrashes Olujimi, Akeredolu & Co, qualifies for semi-final

Hope brightens for Afe Babalola & Co players as the team thrashed the hard fighting players of Olujimi, Akeredolu 3-2 in the quarter final match played yesterday.

The victorious Afe Babalola & Co players, who came from 1-0 down in the first half of the match, proved their superiority over the Olujimi, Akeredolu & Co team in the second half of the tension soaked game to defeat their opponent with 3-2.

Speaking after the game, the Coach of Afe Babalola & Co team, Mr. Kelly Ogbe, who is the Deputy Head of Chambers, Afe Babalola & Co, described the victory as well deserving.

While noting that the tournament so far has been successful and injury free, Ogbe said his players really earned the victory considering the skill, determination and zeal put into the game to ensure they won they game.

According to him, the purpose of the tournament is social interaction among the members.

“We are all lawyers. The fact is that some teams are stronger than other teams. There are some teams that didn’t have time to prepare very well, the work load of lawyers is very high. At times, you find a situation where some teams don’t have time to prepare very well. And we are not young, we are adults to some extent, so there is bound to be some lapses in some teams unlike the others,” he said.

Earlier, in the quarter final match , the darling team of Bandele Aiku & Co defeated Agbaje, Agbaje & Co players with 4-0 after the end of the game played at Lummy Turf Cittee Oil, Opposite Scout Camp, Challenge, Ibadan.

As it stands, Afe Babalola & Co, Bandele Aiku & Co, Lateef Fagbemi & Co, and Adebayo, Gbadamosi & Co have qualified for semi final in the tournament.

In the semi final match, Afe Babalola & Co will be slugging it out with Lateef Fagbemi & Co, while Adebayo, Gbadamosi & Co and Bandele Aiku & Co will play for the ticket to play in the semi final on Friday 26 November, 2021.

The ongoing tournament , which is the third edition of the competition organized in honour of a prominent legal luminary, Chief Afe Babalola SAN will end on Friday 9th December 2021.

The football competition is in partnership with the Nigerian Bar Association ( NBA), Ibadan branch and will form part of the 2021 Law Week celebration of the Ibadan Bar.
