The Federal Government has announced plans to upgrade the Federal College of Forestry in Ibadan, Oyo State, to a degree-awarding institution.
This decision comes 85 years after the establishment of the colleges.
Minister of Environment, Lawal Balarabe, made this announcement during the 85th anniversary celebration of the Federal College of Forestry in Ibadan.
Represented by the Conservator-General of National Park Services, Ibrahim Goni, the minister emphasized the government’s commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development.
Established in 1939, the Federal College of Forestry has trained over 10,000 students in forestry and agriculture-related courses, producing experts who have played key roles in policy-making.
The upgrade is aimed at promoting sustainable practices and securing the livelihoods of communities dependent on forestry as the federal government plans to invest in programs supporting forestry education and research initiatives, he declared.
