The Mogajis in Ibadanland, Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), monarchs, Ibadan Compound Peace Initiative (ICPI), Baales and prominent sons and daughters of the ancient city have knocked the Okere of Saki, Oba Khalid Olabisi over recent outburst on the amended Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs bill by the Oyo State House of Assembly.
The stakeholders said the monarch is a minor when it comes to history of traditional institution in Ibadanland and Oyo State in general.
Recall that Okere recently claimed that the newly amended Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs bill by the Oyo State House of Assembly was heavily populated by Ibadan Chiefs.
A statement by President of Ibadan Mogajis, Mogaji Asimiyu Ariori and Coordinator, ICPI Mogaji Nurudeen Akinade described the Okere’s claim as revisionist, inaccurate and shameful
They maintained that the history of the Oyo traditional council is well-documented and widely known, noting that attempts to alter or distort it would not be tolerated.
According to the duo, the Oyo state traditional council has a rich and well documented history that dated back to decades, and Ibadan has always play significant roles in the council’s affairs.
It was expressed in disappointment that the Okere who is only few years on the throne would seek to undermine this long-standing relationship and distort the historical record for his own purposes.
They warned that further attempts to distort the history of the Oyo traditional council would be met with strong resistance and pushback from Ibadan’s traditional rulers and people.
The statement reads, “It has come to our notice that the Okere of Saki is claiming that it’s only Ibadan Chiefs that are populated Oyo State Council of Oba’s and Chiefs, but he failed to realized that these people are not just Ibadan Chiefs but Chairman of their local government traditional Councils.
“He was alive when Oyo State government approved through the Olubadan of Ibadanland the conferment of exalted title of Royal Majesties on all of them in the presence of all the foremost traditional rulers in Yorubaland including the representative of Ooni of Ife Olugbon of Orile Igbon, Onpetu of Ijeru and Oluwo of Iwo.
“Before someone can become the Ekarun Olubadan, the person will start from Mogaji and rise to Jagun, Ajia, Bada, Aare Onibon, Gbonka, Aregbe Omo , Oota, Aare Ago, Ayingun and several others titles.
“So, for someone to become the Ekarun Olubadan, that person would have acquired more than enough experience that any traditional rulers in Yorubaland can not beat.
“So, are you comparing such person with Okere that they just picked from no where to become Oba, the position of Okere should even be rated behind the Otun and Balogun of Ibadanland or even lower because for someone to rise to Otun Olubadan or Balogun Olubadan of Ibadanland, he would have acquired between 35 or 40 years in royalties, experience is our own Ipebi both in theory and Practice in Ibadanland.
“For someone to have risen to the position of Ekarun Olubadan or Balogun of Ibadanland, such person would have had experience of more than three decades in royalties
“Like Okere like Olugbon, it seems both of them has lost touch with the reality about happenings in Oyo State, otherwise, for them calling the Royal majesties who are chairmen of the traditional Council in their respective local government mere Olubadan chiefs, it seems they have lost touch, and they call themselves kings in Your state
“And we know what pains them, the Otun Olubadan and Balogun Olubadan has been rated to be the Deputy Chairman of Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs alongside the Okere and Olugbon, unfortunately, we can’t help their situation
“In fact, Okere is lucky to have been in that number on the list, else, he should have be rated behind the Balogun Olubadan, Otun Olubadan and even Bashorun of Oyo. So, he should be careful when it comes to Ibadan matter and history, he is still a minor when it comes to history and the traditional system of Oyo State.”
“We are a bit constrained to take him up on his Political life style and his other attitude for some reasons. He should be more careful, we are heavily loaded here. Ibadan mesi ogo oooo.”
