The Government College Ibadan Old Boys Association has lauded the policy of Governor Seyi Makinde on the partnership of public schools in the state, describing it as a step towards improving the standard of education.
The Chairman of the School Governing Board, Engr. Femi Babalola gave the commendation at the official presentation of the GAC GS3 black SUV to the newly appointed Principal of the school, Mr. Gbemi Oresegun at the school premises on Friday.
Babalola stated that the Old Boys Association has taken over the administration of the school to reposition it for greater height.
He added that for administrative convenience, the association has purchased official car for the principal while building of the new structure as well the renovation of the existing ones are ongoing.
According to him, The Oyo State Government has concessioned the administration of Government College Ibadan, and in that spirit, the Old Boys have appointed a new principal to run the school to the satisfaction of the government and the Old Boys Association of GCI.
“We are aware that the principal would need tools to perform his duties effectively. And in the course of that, the Board of Trustees headed by Mr. Banwo Smith and the President of the Old Boys Association of GCI, Dr. Wale Babalakin have deemed it fit to present a brand vehicle as the principal’s official car.
“Our new principal is Mr. Gbemi Oresegun. He is a very experienced principal. He was a principal for many private schools in Lagos, Edo States and some other parts of Nigeria.
“We are glad to have him, and in that spirit, it is my pleasure on behalf of BOT and the Executive of GCIOBA, to present this brand new car to you for the good use of yourself and the good use of Government College Ibadan, particularly to make your work easier in running the affairs of the school effectively.”
Responding, the newly appointed Principal thanked the Board of Trustees and the Governing Council of the school for the gesture.
He pledged his commitment to the upliftment of the school.
His words, “I received this official car with so much gratitude, and for me it’s an indication of confidence reposed in me as a principal. And I promise to deliver all the expectations making sure that all the stakeholders; the government, the old boys, the students and the parents, all work in harmony.
“The most important objective at the end of the day is academic excellence of all our students and I promise that’s going to be my first and foremost priority. Thank you very much, am grateful.”
