The Oyo state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has pledged to support the governorship ambition of the member representing Ibadan North-West/Ibadan South-West Federal Constituency of Oyo state in the House of Representatives, Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Stanley Olajide, describing him as a performer.
The commendation came during a courtesy visit by the NUJ leadership, led by its chairman, Comrade Akeem Abas with other executives of the union and members to the Adeoyo residence of the two term PDP lawmaker in Ibadan on Sunday.
Speaking on behalf of the union, Abas commended Olajide Odidiomo, for his track record in the area of digital inclusion, capacity building, cybersecurity awareness and empowerment programmes, noting that his interventions have had far reaching impact across the state.
According to him, the lawmaker’s achievements in promoting digital literacy and supporting media practitioners through training initiatives have distinguished him as a forward thinking leader with a clear vision for modern governance.
“Your noble achievements in the areas of digital inclusion, training, cybersecurity awareness and empowerment programmes are evident for all to see.
You are a performer and you have all it takes to govern Oyo state,” Abas said.
The NUJ chairman further described Olajide as a leader whose legislative contributions, particularly in the area of digital economy reforms, have the potential to enhance governance and public administration when fully implemented.
He made specific reference to the proposed digital economy bill, describing it as a landmark initiative that would strengthen institutional efficiency and drive technological advancement in governance.
Abas assured the lawmaker of the support of media professionals in projecting his achievements and programmes to the people of Oyo state.
“As journalists, we will do all within our means to propagate your achievements across the length and breadth of Oyo State,” he added.
Responding, Olajide expressed appreciation to the NUJ leadership for the visit and the confidence reposed in his leadership capacity.
He assured the journalists that he would not disappoint the people of Oyo state if given the mandate to serve as governor, pledging to deliver inclusive governance and sustained development.
“I am honoured by this show of support from members of the pen profession. I assure you and the good people of Oyo state that I will not disappoint if given the opportunity to serve,” he said.
As part of his support to the union, the lawmaker gave cash support and presented 8 laptops to members of the NUJ to assist the union’s activities.
