The federal lawmaker representing Ibadan North-west/Ibadan South-West federal constituency of Oyo state in the House of Representatives, Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Stanley Olajide, has formally declared his intention to contest the Oyo south senatorial seat on the platform of the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM).

The declaration, which signals a major political calculation ahead of the 2027 general election, was contained in an official statement personally signed by the two term lawmaker and made available to journalists on monday through his Special Adviser, Media and Public Affairs, Tolu Mustapha.

Olajide Odidiomo, stated that his decision to accept to join the Oyo South Senatorial race was borne out of his respect for party supremacy and by extension the leadership of the executive governor of Oyo state, His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde, who in his God given wisdom and political sagacity resolved to zone the governorship position to Oyo central senatorial district in the overall interest of equity, fairness and political balance within the state.

Olajide noted that as a loyal party man and committed stakeholder in the progressive development of Oyo state, he considered it imperative to align with the decision of the leadership while continuing his service to the people through the Oyo south senatorial district contest on the platform of the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM).

He noted that having represented Ibadan North-west/Ibadan South-west federal constituency of Oyo state for two consecutive terms at the green chamber of the National Assembly, the next political step is to further extend quality representation and developmental advocacy to the broader Oyo south senatorial district at the Red Chamber.

In the statement, Olajide said the senatorial ambition is not driven by personal interest but by a conviction to consolidate developmental efforts, amplify the voice of the people and attract greater opportunities to the senatorial district through effective legislative engagement and strategic national participation.

According to him, the journey represents an expansion of responsibility from two local government areas to nine local government areas comprising Ibadan North, Ibadan North-East, Ibadan North-West, Ibadan South-East, Ibadan South-West, Ido, Ibarapa-East, Ibarapa-Central and Ibarapa-North local government areas of Oyo state.

He further pledged to sustain his style of representation, which he said has over the years been demonstrated through youth empowerment programmes, digital inclusion initiatives, scholarship interventions, constituency projects and sustained grassroots engagements.
“As someone who has enjoyed immense support and confidence from the people over the years, I consider this aspiration a call to greater service. The task ahead is to broaden the frontiers of development and ensure that the people of Oyo south continue to have a strong and effective voice at the National Assembly,” the statement read in part.
