The Federal Character Commissioner representing Oyo State, Prince Ayodeji Abass-Aleshinloye, has reaffirmed his commitment to fairness, equity, and balanced representation in federal appointments and distribution of opportunities across Nigeria.
Speaking at a press conference and inaugural meeting with staff of the Federal Character Commission in Oyo State, Aleshinloye emphasized that the Commission under the leadership of Executive Chairman, Ayo Hulayat Omidiran, is determined to strengthen monitoring mechanisms and ensure strict compliance with the Federal Character principle as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution.
He noted that since the inauguration of the current commission on January 22, 2026, significant steps have been taken to enforce adherence to federal character guidelines in ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) across the country.
“The mandate of the Commission goes beyond employment. It covers equitable distribution of infrastructure, social amenities, and policy implementation to ensure that no state or ethnic group is marginalized,” he said.
Aleshinloye described the Federal Character principle as a vital pillar for national unity and integration, stressing that it guarantees every region a sense of belonging in governance and administration.
He disclosed that the Commission has intensified oversight functions, insisting that all federal institutions must properly advertise vacancies, submit nominal rolls for scrutiny, and comply fully with constitutional provisions before recruitment exercises are finalized.
“We have stopped several recruitment processes in recent weeks because due process was not followed. The right thing must be done, and we will not compromise on fairness and equity,” he declared.
The Commissioner also addressed ongoing recruitment into the Nigeria Police Force, where about 50,000 personnel are being enlisted. As a member of the Security and External Affairs Committee, he explained that while some states show greater interest in military and paramilitary services than others, the Commission will ensure that no state loses its rightful quota to another, except where slots remain unfilled.
He urged youths from Oyo State and other parts of the country to take advantage of federal recruitment opportunities, assuring that merit and qualification remain the primary criteria.
“If you are qualified, come forward. You don’t need to know anyone to be considered. We are committed to transparency. However, no assistance will be given to the detriment of others,” he stated.
Aleshinloye further clarified that political affiliation would not influence his decisions, promising to serve Nigerians fairly irrespective of party lines.
He assured the people of Oyo State that their interests would be adequately represented at the Commission, while also encouraging professionalism and diligence among staff of the Commission in the state.
The Commissioner expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the confidence reposed in him through his appointment, pledging to uphold the constitutional mandate of the Commission with integrity and accountability.
He also commended the media for its role in promoting transparency and democratic governance, calling on stakeholders to support policies that strengthen national cohesion.
“As we move forward, let us remain committed to unity, peace, and fairness. Together, we can build a Nigeria where justice and inclusiveness prevail,” he concluded.
