Buhari, Folarin Move Motion To Curb Excesses of Customs Officers in Oyo State As Senate Orders Return of Money, Rice Taken from Ogbomoso, Ibadan

Senators Abdulfatai Buhari (Oyo North) and Teslim Folarin (Oyo Central), on Tuesday, in the Nigerian Senate plenary moved a motion on the excesses of men of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in Iseyin Local Government of Oyo State, that led to death of five innocent people.

In the senate plenary, Senator Abdulfatai Buhari cited Order 42 and 52 to seek the leave of the Senate to present a motion on the excesses of men of the NCS in the ancient town of Iseyin. The Motion was seconded by Senator Teslim Folarin.

The Senate observed a minute silence in honour of the slain victims who are caught in the crossfire of the events of Thursday, 13th May, 2021.

The Senate mandated the Senate Committee on Customs, Excise and Tariff to interface with hierarchy of the Nigeria Customs Service towards indentifying victims of the incident and organizing proper compensation to the family of the deceased and the injured.

In addition, the Senate mandated the Senate Committee on Customs, Excise and Tariff to interface with the top hierarchy of NCS towards the reorientation of members of the service to restrain the use of firearms in the course of their official engagement in line with the international best practices.

The Senate further resolved that the Senate Committee on Customs, Excise and Tariff tell NCS hierarchy to return all the money taken away ā€“ N1.2 millions with 600 bags of rice taken from shops in Ogbomoso and N4 million with the trucks of rice from Ibadan respectively.
