The Oyo State chapter of Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) hasĀ warned the Federal Government of Nigeria not to tamper with the Federal Civil Service structure.
This warning is coming after the Nigeria Governors advised the Federal Government to send officers above 50years in the Federal Civil Service on early retirement due to the economic challenges the country is currently facing.
According to the industrial union’s Chairman in Oyo state, Comrade Babatunde Balogun, the advice will distabilize civil service structure and by extension erase the directorate cadre.
Balogun, however advised the government to work on the leakages, wastage and corruption in governance as well as the high numbers of government officials instead of tampering with structure of the civil service.
He noted that from time immemorial, civil service is the bedrock of all government globally and has its gradual transitional progression modes.
“The suggestion of the Governors will if implemented, distabilize the process and affect the commission.
“I will like to urge the government to ferret workable methodology to address leakages, wastage, corruption in high places and even the growing numbers of government officials whose duties are mostly duplicated in a bid to cater for their party loyalists instead of tampering with civil service structure.
“Other areas the government can also look at and address base on its claimed economic woes include; the estacodes, excessive foreign travels, security votes and even budget padding to mention few”, he said.
