As countries around the world mark the 2025 International Children’s Day, Nigerian philanthropist, entrepreneur, and Chief Executive Officer of Ajanaku Holdings, Otunba Rotimi Ajanaku, has delivered a heartfelt message to parents saying they shouldn’t let the weight of economic hardship compromise their commitment to securing a bright and meaningful future for their children.
Speaking to journalists during a modest but joyful Children’s Day celebration organized in Ibadan for recipients of his educational scholarship scheme, Otunba Ajanaku emphasized that children are not only the hope of tomorrow, but also the mirror of parental legacy. The event featured dozens of brilliant pupils recently awarded full scholarships by his foundation to commence Junior Secondary School in the 2025/2026 academic year.
“While it is true that families across Nigeria and many parts of the world are experiencing the brunt of economic pressure, we must not allow today’s struggles to darken the promise of our children’s tomorrow,” Ajanaku stated. “Our children are the future we are yet to see, and what we sow in them today will be the harvest of our old age.”
He continued: “We cannot fold our arms or retreat in fear because of hardship. Instead, we must rise with uncommon courage and resilience to invest morally, spiritually, and educationally in our children. Raising responsible children is not just a family duty — it is a national investment and a moral obligation.”
Drawing from both personal values and societal observation, Ajanaku warned that children who are deprived of proper guidance, education, and emotional support may grow into societal misfits, becoming burdens rather than blessings. According to him, every parent must act as a reliable compass, providing direction in an age where distractions abound.
“There are numerous opportunities that can ease the burden on parents, including scholarships and support systems,” he said. “But access to those opportunities begins with proper upbringing. The world rewards discipline, focus, and good values — traits that start from the home. That’s why I encourage all parents to never give up. If we fail our children today, we forfeit our peace tomorrow.”
Ajanaku, a known advocate for youth development, also urged governments and community leaders to increase investments in early childhood education and parental support systems, stressing that child welfare must be at the heart of every nation’s development agenda.
He added: “Even in trying times, let us remain the unwavering role models our children need. Let us be mirrors of hope, strength, and dignity. The legacy we leave is not in the wealth we amass, but in the children we raise. Let every home become a sanctuary of learning, discipline, and love.”
The event concluded with songs, performances, and the symbolic presentation of scholarship certificates, drawing smiles from both children and their parents — a reminder that even amidst economic turbulence, hope can still shine bright.
