Ibadan State Creation Action Committee has said efforts of the committee towards creation of new Ibadan State is yielding desired results.
The reactivated Ibadan State Creation Action Committee is made up of Chief Sulaiman Ajeniyi Ajewole (Chairman), Chief Bayo Oyero, Chief Ojelabi Morakinyo, Asiwaju of Ibarapa land, Professor Remi Raji, Chief Olatunji Fadairo, Asiwaju of Eruwaland, Chief Mrs. Bola Doharty and Chief Mrs. Ayo Babatunde.
According to the Secretary of the Committee, Suleiman Iyanda Rauf, indication to this effect manifested in the successful presentation of copies of Memoranda to both sittings of Senate and House of Representatives at the Lagos venue of the South West Zonal Public Hearing On The Review Of 1999 Constitution on 5th and 19th July, 2025 respectfully.
He said Memorandum prepared for the demand for Ibadan State was jointly written and signed by the representatives of Ibadan and Ibarapa.
He stated that demand for Ibadan State is based on the 14 local governments that constitute Ibadan and Ibarapa zones of Oyo State, eleven from Ibadan and three from Ibarapa.
He said, The two sittings were declared open by the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr Hazmat who represented the State Governor.
“At both sittings, the Memorandum was eloquently presented to the admiration of the audience. Copies of the Memoranda were subsequently delivered to the chairmen of the two sittings at each of the sittings.
“The Senate sitting was chaired by the Senate Leader, Distinguished Senator Opeyemi Bamidele while that of the House Of Representatives was chaired by Hon Isiaka Ibrahim Ayokunle.
“Apart from the copies of the Memoranda delivered on the days of the sittings, certain number of copies of the Memoranda had been despatched to each of the two Chambers as requested.
“Apart from the submission of the Memoranda, the Committee had embarked on advocacy moves to garner support from various stakeholders like traditional rulers, Chiefs, Mogajis, Baales, religious leaders, politicians, political functionaries, artisans and traders.
“Prayers were solicited from all individuals in support of the efforts.
As manifestation of the positive effects of the efforts, there is strong indication that, Ibadan State would be one of the states to be considered for creation.
“Part of the strong justifications for the demand for Ibadan State is that, Ibadan City is the only capital that has not been granted the status of a state out of the three regional capitals of the period of regional government. Others like Kaduna and Enugu are now States on their own.
“This is apart from the population, economic and infrastructural strength of Ibadan. The Committee is of fervent prayer that the creation of Ibadan State will become a reality.”
