Ahead of the forthcoming local government elective congresses of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) across the country, a chieftain of the party in Ibadan south-west local government, Hon. Kunle Folarin Baale, has formally declared his intention to contest for the position of PDP chairman in the council.
Folarin, who currently serves as the vice chairman of the PDP in the local government, made his declaration at a well-attended rally held at UMC primary school, molete, Ibadan, during the party’s weekly meeting.
The atmosphere at the gathering was electrifying as party loyalists, grassroots mobilizers and notable stakeholders from across Ibadan south-west local government area of Oyo state, trooped out in solidarity with the aspirant. The event turned into a carnival like show of strength, with drums, songs, and chants of support reverberating through the venue.
In his address, Hon. Folarin Baale expressed gratitude to party leaders and members for their support over the years, noting that his aspiration to lead the local government chapter of the party was borne out of his commitment to strengthening internal democracy and ensuring inclusivity.
He said, “Having served as vice chairman, I understand the workings of our party at the grassroots and the urgent need to consolidate on the gains we have made.
My intention is to lead Ibadan south-west PDP with fairness, accountability and inclusiveness, ensuring that every ward and stakeholder has a voice in every decision we make.”
Folarin promised to deepen unity within the party, bridge divides and create an enabling atmosphere that would further cement the dominance of the PDP in Nigeria’s politics.
According to him, the strength of the PDP has always been its grassroots base and his leadership would prioritise the welfare of members, especially youths and women.
The declaration also witnessed goodwill messages from party elders, who described Folarin as a loyal, hardworking and dependable leader capable of taking the local government chapter to greater heights. They urged members to rally behind his candidacy to ensure stability and continued success for the party in the council.
The local government elective congress of the PDP is scheduled to hold in the coming weeks as part of the nationwide exercise aimed at producing fresh leadership across party structures.
