The Grassroots and Development Journalists Association of Nigeria (GDJAN) has expressed deep sympathy with the Secretary of the Oyo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Olusola Oladapo, following the painful loss of his beloved wife.
In a heartfelt condolence message signed by the association’s Secretary, Comrade Ramat Alade, GDJAN described the passing of Mrs. Toyin Oladapo as a shocking and devastating tragedy. The association noted that her death has created an irreplaceable void in the life of her husband and family.
“Mrs. Oladapo was a strong pillar in the home and a source of emotional strength to her husband. Her demise, coming at a time it was least expected, is both painful and deeply saddening,” the statement read.
The association further reflected on the inevitable reality of death, describing it as a universal experience that spares no one. It added that while Mrs. Oladapo’s transition was sudden, her final moments were marked by grace, as she departed without imposing prolonged medical hardship on her family.
“She was a considerate wife and mother who, even in death, demonstrated love by sparing her husband and children the agony of long hospital visits and the burden of exorbitant medical expenses,” the statement added.
GDJAN offered fervent prayers for divine comfort for Comrade Oladapo and strength for him to navigate this difficult season. The association also prayed that God would continue to guide and protect the children she left behind and be a constant presence in their lives.
In a related message, the association used the opportunity to call on journalists—especially senior professionals in the field—to prioritize personal and family health. It stressed the importance of regular medical checkups and timely treatments to avoid preventable health crises.
“The pressures of the journalism profession should not overshadow the importance of health. We must remember that a healthy family is the bedrock of a productive life,” GDJAN cautioned.
The association concluded by reiterating its solidarity with Comrade Oladapo during this period of mourning and pledged its continued support to him and his family.
