There is a popular saying that charity begins at home, and Rt. Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Stanley Olajide Odidiomo, appears determined to make that philosophy the foundation of his quest for the Oyo south senatorial seat.
Rather than commence his senatorial consultations with grand political rallies, the two term federal lawmaker representing Ibadan North-West/Ibadan South-West Federal Constituency of Oyo state in the House of Representatives chose to begin from Anfaani, the community he has called home since 1973, where he rendered an account of his stewardship over the last seven years before formally unveiling his senatorial ambition. In doing so, he reminded residents that leadership is, above all, a covenant with the people.
At the well attended community parley, the atmosphere was less of political fanfare and more of a family reunion.
Hon. Adedeji Olajide Odidiomo recalled how elders in the community approached his father years ago to encourage him to venture into politics. “I am your son,” he repeatedly told the gathering, restating that he could not seek a higher mandate without first reporting back to those who knew him before public office.
It was a simple but compelling message of accountability, one that stayed with residents who listened, questioned and openly expressed their expectations for the future.
Beyond the feedback session and interface session, the meeting also revealed the strategy driving Odidiomo’s senatorial ambition. He presented his legislative experience as a ranking member of the House of Representatives as a strong case for continuity, arguing that the transition from the Green Chamber to the Red Chamber would enable Oyo south to retain an experienced voice at the National Assembly.
He reaffirmed his commitment to the Allied People’s Movement (APM), canvassed support for Governor Seyi Makinde’s political vision of taking a shot at the Presidency, advocated state police as a practical response to insecurity and encouraged eligible residents to participate in the ongoing voter registration exercise.
In return, community leaders, youths and stakeholders called for more empowerment opportunities, sustained engagement and a more balanced spread of constituency interventions.
Ahead of the 2027 general elections, Odidiomo’s return to Anfaani to render an account of his stewardship will ultimately be remembered less for the speeches delivered but for the symbolism it conveyed.
By choosing to commence his senatorial consultations from the Anfaani community, which has been home to him since 1973, Rt. Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Stanley Olajide Odidiomo, made it clear that his journey to the senate seat of Oyo south senatorial district must begin with the confidence and buy-in of the people who nurtured, encouraged and inspired his political journey, reaffirming the timeless belief that charity indeed begins at home.
