The Oyo State Senatorial Chairman of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) who is a loyalist of the national leader of the organization, Iba Gani Adams, Alhaji Muritala Adekola one of the stakeholders along the Apata–Omi Adio–Abeokuta Highway in Ido Local Government Area of Oyo State has once again raised the alarm over the deteriorating condition of the road, with some reportedly resorting to using stones to temporarily fill damaged sections.

The affected stretch serves communities around Tipper Garage, Ayilara, Lade and Bako, providing an important route for residents and commuters travelling between Ibadan and Abeokuta.

According to him, the condition of portions of the road has worsened considerably, with heavy rainfall making movement even more difficult and leaving motorists to navigate severely damaged sections.

He stated that what makes the situation more concerning is that the condition of the road has previously attracted public attention.

Alhaji Muritala highlighted the deteriorating state of the Apata–Omi Adio–Abeokuta Highway, particularly around communities including Bako, Lade and Ayilara.

“The road is a federal road, placing primary responsibility for its maintenance and rehabilitation with the Federal Government through the relevant agencies, including the Federal Ministry of Works and FERMA.

“We are now appealing for urgent intervention from both Oyo State Government under Engr. Seyi Makinde, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, temporary efforts such as filling damaged portions with stones cannot provide a lasting solution to what we are facing.

“For communities that depend on the route every day, the question is no longer simply about the condition of the road, but how long they will have to continue navigating it in this state.”

Muri Omin calls on the relevant federal authorities to urgently reassess the affected sections and take concrete steps towards the rehabilitation of the road.
