The former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Chief Bayo Adelabu popularly called Penkelemesi has said that the current adminstration of Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State is no doubt known to the blind and audible to the deaf.
Adelabu who was the Oyo APC Governorship Flag bearer in 2019 election on Saturday featured on air with Mayor Isaac Brown of Fresh FM where he examined the current situation of Oyo state and Nigeria as a whole.
He noted the disheartening condition of all sectors in the state, stating that he will not like to politicise or criticise the shortcomings of the administration of Oyo state under Governor Seyi Makinde because the situations of state already show the governor is not doing well.
He said, “I will not be here to criticise the government because even the blind and deaf know the current performance of this administration. Coming here to access them will be rubbing it to their face because the condition of the state across all sectors are pitiable and quite unfortunate.”
“This not the time to be building motor parks across Oyo State costing about 4.5billion naira which could have done better on education sectors, agriculture and environments than road infrastructure. How many major roads that Ajimobi left behind that needed little work for completion have they completed?”
“What is the state of Bashorun–Akobo, Olorunda road? Still on going after 2years. What’s the state of old Ife road, Gbagi, Airport road? Fine, they’ve completed Moniya–Iseyin road but I’m telling you will weep for this state if you take a drive to that road because the width of that road hardly take two vehicles, and this is intercity road where you have heavy-duty vehicle passing.”
“It is not about the length of roads or kilometres of roads you’re constructing but about the quality of roads and the safety of this routes. You can see the roads Ajimobi completed while he was alive, these are the high economic impact roads and even the quality of the roads are world class everybody knows. Nine-ten years after the roads have been completed, see the states of the roads. They are still intact.”
“The park system and the motor parks we are constructing does not make sense in the present state of the Oyo economy, that’s number one, and the number two, renovating a stadium for 5.5billion naira at this time is senseless, why can’t we put that on other projects. That will have direct impact on the lives of our people. So, I don’t believe that the government has made judicial use of the resources we have.”
“To my surprise, the governor mentioned it to us that in six months after assuming office we will not need to go to Abuja again. I challenge them not to go to Abuja again, they will not pay salary.”
“I’m happy that I’m in a party that’s attractive even opposition as we approach 2023, there is something they see in our party. And in few months back, we had the registration and it was peaceful, the turn out was quite impressive. I can tell you today that APC is 40 million-man strong in Nigeria today. And in Oyo state alone, we closed to 700,000 members even the entire votes of the last election wasn’t about 900,000. So, there must be something that we are doing well.”
“The extension is to the point of when we want to hold the congresses so that there is no vacuum, the extension is not indefinite. It can’t be indefinite when the date has been announced, it is up to the 24th of July. 14th of August for the local government and 18h of September for the state congresses. Son, the existing committee would have parked their bags after the new executives have come in. So it’s not indefinite extension.”
“And regarding the performance of APC, we forget easily in Nigeria of the economy, I can tell you what and what this government has done to revive the state of economy in this country. Let me tell you, the country is like a truck that you want to turn around. You can’t turn it around except you move forward and you move backward until you pave the way for the truck to move.”
“What we are doing in APC is damage control, we are restoring the country, we are transforming the country and by God’s grace, this party will reposition this country”, Adelabu assured
