The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin I, has called on the federal government to enact laws empowering traditional rulers to regain their lost dignity.
Oba Olakulehin made this plea while hosting the Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye Orumogege III, at his palace in Oke Aremo, Ibadan.
The monarch emphasized traditional rulers’ proximity to the people and their vital role in preserving cultural values. He stressed the need for unity and cooperation among traditional rulers in the state.
President-General, Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), Chief Ajeniyi Ajewole, echoed the Olubadan’s sentiments, urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to restore traditional rulers’ respect and value.
Oba Olaoye’s visit aimed to foster unity among traditional rulers in the state and South West. He praised the Olubadan’s coronation and acknowledged his connection to Ibadan’s tradition and culture.
Dignitaries present included Asipa Olubadan, Oba Abiodun Kola-Daisi, Ekerin Olubadan, Oba Amidu Ajibade, and Ekerin Balogun, High Chief Akeem Mobolaji Adewoyin.
The Soun was accompanied by Aare Ago of Ogbomosoland, High Chief S.S. Otolorin, Ikolaba, High Chief Adeniran Ojo, and Abese Alhaji Gazali Oladipo Yusuf.
The call for traditional rulers’ empowerment highlights their significance in promoting cultural heritage and community development.
