Residents of Wisdom Estate, Olorunda, Akobo, Ibadan on Thursday cried to the Oyo State governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde and relevant stakeholders in the state to save them from imminent danger posed by illegal construction on water ways within the estate by some deviant landlords, saying that the construction is a threat to their lives and property.
A letter jointly signed by the Chairman and Secretary of Wisdom Estate Landlord Association, Adegbite Fadebiyi and Nafiu Busari respectively pointed to impending flood at Road E2 of the estate due to non-challant attitude of concerned landlords who failed to observe town planning regulations regarding channelization, adding that owners of the properties failed to stop work despite several appeal.
The residents lamented that despite series of letters written to the Commissioner of Land, Housing and Urban Development and Director at Lagelu Town Planning Office, Akobo to alert them of the impending danger, none of their demands has been attended to.
They maintained that the contraction is posing danger to over 300 households, students and residents within the estate.
“The situation in the street usually get worse during raining season as the street usually get flooded due to construction of brick walls by the affected landlords in front of their houses thereby preventing free flow of water into the water channels.
“Another infractions is the blockage of a road by a landlord who claimed to have bought a portion of land which supposed to serve as a road at Road 2L along the stream side of the estate and Road 4 within the estate are generatimg concern among the inhabitants which also required your attention.
“This is to call the attention of the Oyo State government to the illegal classroom construction on the road along Aseda Private School, at Widom Estate, Olorunda, Akobo, Ibadan which has been hidering movement of people in the community.
“We write to seek your intervention in providing some lasting solution to some observed infractions in our estate.
“It should be noted that all these infractions have defiled all solutions proffered by the executives of the estate.
“Series of meetings had been held with all the concerned landlords to resolve the matter but all the efforts turned out fruitless.
“We however requested your visit to the affected area and also do the needful”, they said.
