The Nigeria Union of Journalists Oyo State Council on Thursday condoled the family of a late Senior Journalist, Gboyega Lawal who died last week in Ibadan, State capital.
A statement issued by the NUJ Chairman, Ademola Babalola described the deceased as a thoroughbred professional who mentored many of today’s print journalists in the State.
Babalola said the news of the death of Lawal left a sour taste in the mouth, but took solace on the fact that his legacies remained unassailable in the profession and the communities at large.
The remains of Late Lawal, were laid to rest today, August 11, 2022 at the Century Parks & Gardens Cemetery, Aba Oke Junction, Ibadan – Abeokuta Road, Ibadan.
The Late Gboyega Lawal, aged 60, was a former Group Business Editor at the African Newspapers of Nigeria (ANN) Plc, the publisher’s of the Tribune titles, for many years. He was noted for his incisive business and economic analysis, aside his unrivalled budgetary evaluation and reportage in the Nigerian media industry for many years, where he distinguished himself as an Editor’s delight.
He was survived by Miss Olayemi Lawal, Mr. Dolapo Lawal and Miss Bolutife Lawal.
The burial was attended by his three surviving children, his brothers, family members, relatives, professional colleagues, representatives of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State and sympathisers from all walks of life.
