Clean and safe water, luxury for only rich in Nigeria – Water expert, Ale

As the world marks World Water Day, on March 22, 2025, Africans and specifically Nigerians are reminded of the stark reality that clean and safe water is a luxury only accessible to the rich. The poor and vulnerable are left to suffer from the lack of access to this basic human right.

The theme for this years’ World Water Day is “Glacier Preservation”. Safe Water Africa Community Initiative (SWACI) intends to commemorate the day through various programs earmarked to raise awareness to the current water crisis plaguing Africa.

Engr Ale, co-founder and President of SWACI, during an interview session to mark this year’s World Water Day emphasized that the challenges facing poor Nigerians and Africans in accessing clean water are numerous. One of the major issues is the high cost of drilling boreholes, which is often the only source of clean water in many communities. The cost of drilling a borehole for example in Nigeria can range from ₦1,500,000 to ₦2,600,000 (million), depending on the location and depth of the borehole. This is a sum that is way beyond the reach of many Nigerians living in poverty.

Another critical issue is the frequent breakdown of borehole infrastructure. Many community boreholes, often donated by the government, interest groups, philanthropists, or politicians, become non-functional shortly after commissioning due to poor maintenance. Additionally, government-owned water treatment plants and pipelines are in a state of disrepair, forcing millions to rely on expensive or contaminated water sources. This has led to the rampant spread of waterborne diseases such as cholera and diarrhea, clear indicators of developmental stagnation due to inadequate Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) facilities. This situation is also exacerbated by global warming, which is making it difficult to access clean water.

The President of SWACI emphasized the need for innovative and sustainable approaches to water management. One such initiative is the Borehole Assets Management System (BAMS), a digital platform designed to help borehole operators manage their water sources more efficiently, reducing operational costs and improving access to clean water.

“The introduction of BAMS, along with other innovative solutions like the Project Outcome Validation Aggregator (POVA), requires robust support from private investors, government bodies, NGOs, volunteers, and water associations. These stakeholders must step up efforts to ensure efficient water management, particularly in underserved communities,” Ale added.

He also emphasized the crucial role of government agencies and NGOs in resolving Nigeria’s water crisis. “They must collaborate to provide financial and technical support to communities and borehole operators to guarantee a sustainable supply of clean water,” he stated.

Ale, who also serves as the Chairman of Male Integrated Science, a renowned borehole drilling company, commended collective efforts such as those of the Ibadan Descendant Union (IDU) in Texas, USA. Through the WATER ROOT CONNECT (WRC) program, the IDU has constructed close to 22 solar-powered boreholes in the Ibadan community, providing relief to residents who have long been deprived of such a vital resource. He praised the initiative as a sign of commitment and support, emphasizing that the government alone cannot solve Nigeria’s water problems. He urged other well-meaning Nigerians and groups to emulate the IDU’s efforts.

 

“As we reflect on the significance of World Water Day, it is essential to recognize that water is first a social good before being an economic commodity. Access to clean water is a fundamental human right, and it is the collective responsibility of all stakeholders to ensure that this right is upheld for every Nigerian, regardless of economic status,” Ale asserted.

He called on private borehole owners and Initiators to invest in innovative solutions such as BAMS and POVA, and to support operators in the water industry.

“Government agencies and NGOs should provide funding and technical assistance to ensure the efficient operation of water infrastructure. Communities must advocate for accountability in water resource management to prevent further neglect of essential facilities and make clean and safe water a reality for all Nigerians.

“Together, we can ensure that clean and safe water is accessible to all Nigerians and Africans regardless of their socio-economic status.

“Let’s make clean water a reality for all Africans!”

The Ibadan Mogajis, Ibadan Compound Peace Initiative (ICPI), prominent sons and daughters of Ibadanland, including the Jagun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Engr. Dotun Sanusi have felicitated with Iyaloja General, Alhaja Saratu Aduke Konibaje on her birthday.

The stakeholders said the felicitation was a testament to the high esteem in which Konibaje holds, appreciating her contributions to Ibadanland.

A statement jointly signed by President of Ibadan Mogajis, Mogaji Asimiyu Ariori and Coordinator, Ibadan Compound Peace Initiative, Asiwaju Nurudeen Akinade acknowledged Konibaje’s tireless efforts towards promoting welfare and interests of the people which has earned her a special place in the hearts of many.

According to the statement, Konibaje’s dedication and service to Ibadanland and her tireless efforts to promote the welfare and interests of the people are well appreciated.

Temper Justice With Mercy, Ajadi Urges Tinubu on Rivers Crisis

A South West chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, has described last Tuesday’s suspension of democratically elected officials in Rivers State by President Bola Tinubu as hasty.

Ajadi, while appealing to the President to temper justice with mercy, expressed concerns that President Tinubu’s action might set a bad precedent, potentially threatening the stability of Nigeria’s democracy.

He who stated that he was gravely worried about the purported suspension of the Governor of Rivers State, the Deputy Governor and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for six months, however, suggested that the President could reduce the suspension to three months to allow the warring factions learn their lessons.

Ajadi, who was the NNPP governorship candidate in Ogun State during the 2023 election, argued that the crisis in Rivers State had not escalated beyond what the President could resolve through dialogue between the two factions, also warned that suspending a democratic government through a proclamation could have serious implications for Nigeria’s democracy.

Speaking with journalists on Friday, Ajadi acknowledged that the President had already taken action but insisted that the decision seemed too hasty and should be reconsidered.

According to him, “The President’s action concerning the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State seems too hasty. A state of emergency should have been the last resort. President Tinubu has not exhausted all available options before making that declaration and I fear for our nascent democracy.

“I know President Tinubu was at the forefront of the struggle for democracy. He suffered, went into exile and endured many personal inconveniences along with others to send the military back to the barracks. He must do more to protect this democracy.

With Peace, Nigeria Can Regain Past Glories — Ajadi

“The crisis between the Rivers State House of Assembly and Governor Sim Fubara has not escalated to the level that warrants a state of emergency. Political disagreements, legislative conflicts or executive-legislative tension do not justify such an extreme measure.

“Most Nigerians believe that if President Tinubu intervenes by calling the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike and Governor Fubara to order, the crisis will end. If we begin declaring a state of emergency over issues like this, we may soon find no state left with a functioning democratic structure.

“For example, during President Olusegun Obasanjo’s tenure, the crisis between former Oyo State, Governor Rashidi Ladoja and the Oyo State House of Assembly was more serious than what is currently happening in Rivers State, yet no state of emergency was declared in Oyo.

“My concern is that, President Tinubu should not set a dangerous precedent that future leaders might exploit to remove opposition governors through the back door. I implore the President to do everything within his power to restore democratic governance in Rivers State as soon as possible.

“This current action could lead to voter apathy in future elections. All hands must be on deck to sustain and safeguard our democracy,” he advised.

Army Denies Invading EKEDC Office

…says allegations misrepresented actual events

The Nigerian Army has dismissed allegations of an invasion of the Badagry office of the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC), clarifying that a minor fracas between soldiers and EKEDC staff resulted from a fire outbreak caused by a power surge in the barracks. 

EKEDC staff were reportedly assaulted when soldiers allegedly stormed their office.

However, in a statement on Wednesday, Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Ayeni, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for 81 Division, refuted the claims, stating that the allegations misrepresented the actual events.

Ayeni explained that the Topo Barracks community in Badagry had been experiencing a prolonged power outage for over a month.

“When power was finally restored in the early hours of March 14, 2025, a power surge triggered a fire in a facility managed by EKEDC within the barracks, causing panic.

“Soldiers on duty immediately collaborated with EKEDC personnel to contain the situation. The company’s technical staff were granted access to the barracks around 1:00 am and successfully resolved the issue by 2:30 am,” Ayeni said.

He acknowledged a misunderstanding between a soldier and an EKEDC staff member during the process but said it was swiftly resolved.

It’s our turn to produce new  Eleruwa – Laribikusi ruling family

The ruling house members of Laribikusi family in Eruwa, Ibarapa East Local Government, in Oyo state have raised alarm over the imposition of new monarch against their preferred choice.

 

This comes after the government allegedly sidelined the appropriate ruling house and shifted the process to the Akalako which is the next ruling house.

 

According to the Laribikusi ruling house, the Eleruwa Chieftaincy Declaration of 1958 recognizes both their house and the Akalako ruling house as the two ruling houses responsible for producing the Eleruwa.

 

The family noted that the declaration also stipulates that the throne should rotate between the two houses.

 

The Laribikusi ruling house claims that they were not given the required 14-day nomination notice by the government, as stated in the Chiefs Law of Oyo State. Instead, nothing that they received an invitation from the Ibarapa East Local Government for a meeting without a clear agenda.

Prince Ijaola Abolade, the Secretary and Spokesperson of the Laribikusi ruling house, emphasized that they were asked to present the eldest member of their house, but no time limit was given.

They also claimed that they were not informed about the unsuccessful meetings with the Local Government, and no explanation was provided for the term “unsuccessful meeting.”

 

“The Laribikusi ruling house believes that the government’s actions were a manipulation to install a preferred candidate from the Akalako ruling house. They are determined to ensure that their rights are respected and that the nomination process is fair and transparent.

 

“The people of Eruwa initiated the process for selecting a new Eleruwa following the Supreme Court’s ruling in 2019.¹ The Laribikusi ruling house is calling for the nomination process to be returned to their house, citing their right to produce the next Eleruwa.

 

“Laribikusi ruling house is one of the two ruling houses recognized by Eruwa tradition and Eleruwa Chieftaincy Declaration of 1958.

 

“The confirmation and recognition of these two ruling houses by the Chieftaincy Declaration of 1958 also provide for the order of rotation between these ruling houses, that is, Laribikusi and Akalako. The rotation is one after the other.

 

“We believe that we have the obligation to respond to a statement credited to the commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade that Laribikusi ruling house was unable to present candidates within the fourteen day-notice given to them by the government, and that as a result, government had to shift the nomination process back to Akalako ruling house which was the ruling house that produced the last recognized Eleruwa, Oba Bolanle Olaniyan (Gbajumola II).

 

“This narrative from the government can be best described with a proverbial saying that “If you want to hang a dog, you give that dog a bad name”.

 

“We maintain our position that nobody in the administration of this process either at Ibarapa East Local government or the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters gave us (Olaribikusi ruling house) fourteen-day Nomination Notice in line with the Chiefs Law of Oyo State.

“We challenge the chairman of Ibarapa East local government, Kazeem Arogundade to publish to the world to see that 14-day nomination notice he claimed to give us and our acknowledgement of that notice knowing fully what is at stake.

 

“We here by today tell the whole world that after many court cases and intrigues the pervaded the ascendancy to Eleruwa throne from 1995 to 2019 when the Supreme court of Nigeria made a final pronouncement on the matter, we were ready to present candidates to fill the vacant throne and we expected the government to call on us through our local government to do so.

 

“We are here to tell the whole world that th  only message we received from the government of Oyo State through Ibarapa East Local government was an invitation sent to each of the section within Laribikusi ruling house for a meeting with the “Management of Ibarapa East local government on 4th November, 2024.

This letter was dated November 1st, 2024 and signed by the local government chairman, Hon. Kazeem Arogundade (Show the letter to the press). This invitation letter did not contain the agenda of that meeting.

 

We all reported to the Local Government Secretariat on November 4th, 2024 to honor that invitation. In that meeting, the chairman informed our representatives at the meeting to present the eldest member of Laribikusi as required by the Eleruwa Chieftaincy Declaration (1958) for the nomination process to fill the vacant stool of Eleruwa to kick off.

 

“Knowing fully that it was the turn of Laribikusi ruling house to fill the vacancy. Unfortunately, that nomination process never commenced as it was truncated by the same Local Government before its birth.

 

“We were asked by the Chairman to provide the name of the eldest member of our ruling house right on the spot. You will recall that I have stated here (at this venue) that we were not aware of what the meeting was all about before hand. We requested that the chairman allow us to report back to the family and he granted the request.

 

“We want to state clearly here that no time limit was given to us by the Local Government Chairman or his team for presenting the eldest member. Nothing was mentioned about fourteen-day nomination notice at this meeting.

 

“Knowing that choosing the eldest member cannot be an endless process, the four quarters constituting Laribikusi ruling house met and also met with the chairman and his team on November 7th, and 19th 2024 to update him with progress and resolution from our meetings.

 

“However, in another meeting scheduled by Hon. Arogundade at his office, on December 3rd, 2024, Hon. Arogundade fixed January 16th, 2025 for the family to bring the name of the eldest member to his office.

 

“We urged him to give us an earlier date, but he insisted on January 16th date. At that time, we did not know that another plan to return the nomination back to Akaloko ruling house for reasons that have now become obvious to the world was going on secretly. No one should blame us for trusting our government to follow due process.

 

“Having selected the eldest member of Laribikusi ruling house, the family secretary, Prince Abolade Ijaola wrote a letter dated December 20th, 2024 to convey our readiness to present the eldest member of Laribikusi ruling house to the management of Ibarapa East Local Government. (Show a copy of that letter to attendants). To our shocking surprise, we received a letter dated 30th December, 2024 from the local government on January 7th, 2025 stating that they have compiled a report of the unsuccessful meetings with Laribikusi ruling house and have forwarded same to the State Government for further directives which will be communicated back to us when received. No further communication received from the management of Ibarapa East Local government till date.

 

“Furthermore, management of Ibarapa East local government had NOT explained to us what they meant by “unsuccessful meeting”.

“We were taken back by the shifting of nomination process for the vacant throne of Eleruwa back to Akalako ruling house. It started like a rumor before it crystalized to monumental manipulation to actualize a script to install an individual that certain power brokers were head-bent to force on Eruwa people.

 

“On January 13th, 2025 we presented the name of the eldest member of the family, Pa (Prince Oladejo Akinlade to Ibarapa East Local Government. This letter was received and signed for by the personal assistant to Hon. Kazeem Arogundade.

“With this, whole world should know that the process of nomination which by law should commence with fourteen day-notice did not at any time arise having seen what transpired at the palace in Eruwa on Jan 13th, 2025, as managed by the Kazeem Arogundade and which in quick successions culminated in the issuing of certificate and staff of office and to Samuel Adegbola March 6th, 2025, their premeditated agenda rolled out with impunity is as clear as DAYLIGHT.”

The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Bullion Go-Neat Global Limited, Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, has called on adherents of various religions in Nigeria to embrace peace, emphasizing that they all worship the same God.

Speaking at the 3rd Annual Ramadan Lecture hosted by him in Ibafo, Ogun State, Ajadi urged politicians and political leaders to desist from using religion to sow discord among Nigerians. He noted that both Christians and Muslims, as well as adherents of other faiths, should recognize the unity of their worship of one God, the Creator of heaven and earth.

The Ramadan lecture, themed “Submit Yourself to Whom God Has Shown Mercy”, was delivered by Fodhilat Sheikh Abdul Basit Olanrewaju Katibi Bello, popularly known as Aponle Anobi. The event drew a large audience, including Mrs. Oyindamola Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, Kilamuwaye Badmus, Olowu Kehinde, Alhaji Saoty Arewa, Alhaja Azeezat Otibiya Reign, Tope Indomie, MC Baba Labule, among others.

Ajadi, while reflecting on his personal religious background, called for tolerance among people of different faith, “Ramadan is ongoing, and so is Lent. My father was a Christian and my mother is a Muslim, so I grew up practicing both religions. I attended the mosque with my Muslim family members and later became active in church activities. That is how I realized that we are all worshipping the same God.

“I do not see any reason for conflict between Christianity and Islam. Today, both Muslims and Christians are gathered here, sitting together to serve God. That is the way forward.

“My message to the general public is simple—know the God you are serving. Many people do not truly understand their faith and that is why they are easily misled.

Also, I urge politicians to stop dividing Nigerians along religious lines for selfish reasons. We are all one and with peace in the land, God will restore Nigeria’s lost glories.”

Earlier in his lecture, Sheikh Abdul Basit Katibi Bello emphasized on submission to the will of God, urging both Muslims and Christians to recognize the divine role of almighty allah in people’s successes.

The cleric, further called on all Nigerians to live in unity and see the presence of Almighty Allah in their neighbors, irrespective of religion, stressing that such an approach would bring about a more harmonious society.

“Whenever you see the work of Allah in someone’s life, submit yourself totally to his will. No one achieve anything without the permission of Almighty Allah. Once we internalize this, love and peace will naturally follow,” he said.

NAN, training hub for media practitioners in Africa – Veterans

Veterans in the media industry have described the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) as Africa’s media giant with the capacity to become a major training hub for media practitioners across the continent.

 

The veterans made the comments in Ibadan during a send-off party jointly organised by NAN Ibadan zonal office and the agency’s multimedia unit for retired Senior Photojournalist, Mr. Dare Adeogodiran.

 

NAN reports that Adeogodiran retired as the head of the photo unit in the Ibadan zonal office of the agency at the attainment age of 60 after serving in various capacities at both the agency’s headquarters and Lagos Directorate.

 

The Ibadan Zonal Manager, Mr. Olawale Alabi, said the agency could leverage the huge potential and experience of both retired and serving editors to set up a training centre for aspiring journalists.

 

Alabi urged NAN management to expedite action towards achieving its goal of establishing a model training school for media practitioners at its already acquired land in Kwara State.

 

“We have the infrastructure, personnel and material resources to improve the practice of journalism across Africa and beyond,” he said.

 

He described Adeogodiran as a selfless officer, who always prioritised good job output against self-satisfaction.

 

Similarly, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, Comrade Ademola Babalola, advised NAN management not to allow the huge investment in its members of staff to be wasted after retirement.

 

The NUJ chairman advised that retired personnel could still be placed on contract appointment or as part-time lecturers to effectively pass their experiences to subordinates.

 

“This can also serve as another source of generating income for the agency,”he said.

 

Babalola says a photojournalist occupies a risky part of journalism because angry protesters can easily sight and attack journalists handling the cameras.

 

He commended Adeogodiran for his doggedness and commitment till retirement, despite the risks associated with the job.

 

Also, the Chairman of the Oyo State Correspondent Chapel, Mr. Raji Adebayo, described the celebrator, who doubles as the Secretary of the correspondent chapel, as a committed member who had contributed immensely to the success of his tenure.

 

In his goodwill message, the NAN Akure Zonal Manager, Mr. Adebayo Sekoni, described Adeogodiran as a dedicated official, always ready to exhibit professionalism in the discharge of his duties.

 

Responding, Adeogodiran appreciated the members of staff for organising a befitting send-off programme for him.

 

He encouraged the junior colleagues to remain committed to duty, noting that God has His way of rewarding hard work.

 

He added that the pilgrimage benefit and foreign training he enjoyed while in active service were compensations for some of his recognised exceptional jobs for the agency.

 

Adeogodiran, who joined the services of NAN in 2002, said he was happy to have contributed his quota to the development of the agency.

Makinde’s Aide, Titilola-Sodo Lauds Oyo NUJ for Constructive Criticism

Alhaji Bayo Titilola-Sodo, the Special Adviser to Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State on Labour Matters, has commended Oyo State Nigeria Union of Journalists under Comrade Ademola Babalola for its constructive criticisms as well as the contributions to the growth and development of the state.

Titilola-Sodo made the commendation on Tuesday while hosting members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, to Iftar (fast breaking) at his residence in Ibadan.

The Pacesetter news reports that Titilola-Sodo is a former Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and former President of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employment (NULGE) in Oyo State.

Titilola-Sodo lauded the giant strides of Babalola-led administration in its two terms, which is ending at the end of this year, promising more Oyo State Government support for the Union.

The former NLC chairman said that Makinde would continue to offer visionary government aimed at ensuring better rewarding future for the good people of Oyo state.

Titilola-Sodo, also urged the people to support Makinde-led administration in its continuous delivery of democratic dividends, saying that the state would be much better with their cooperation.

He commended journalists in the state for their unflinching supports to the administration, urging them to always engage in constructive criticism.

The governor’s aide said that the government could not satisfy everyone, urging journalists to criticise those in positions of authority constructively.

Titilola-Sodo described NUJ as a versatile union that has been helping to shape the current democracy.

“NUJ is a versatile union to associate with. I want to say thank you and appreciate what you have done in projecting our administration positively.

“It is your job to criticise constructively. You have been constructive partners in the running of the affairs of Oyo State”, he added.

Earlier, Alhaji Ademola Babalola, the NUJ Chairman, thanked Titilola-Sodo for his unflinching and consistent support to the Union.

He described Titilola-Sodo as “a great unionist and partner”, who has never been found wanting in every position he held up till date.

‘Odidiomo’ Reaffirms Support for 3sc

The federal lawmaker representing Ibadan North-west/Ibadan South-west federal constituency of Oyo state at the National Assembly, Hon. Adedeji Stanley Dhikrullahi Olajide has called on stakeholders to support the Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan in its bid to retain it’s pride of place on the league table.

The PDP lawmaker made this appeal while addressing the management of the football club in a courtesy visit to him.

Hon. Olajide, assured the management and players of his unwavering commitment to Shooting Stars.

He reminisced about his deep-rooted connection to the club, dating back to the era of the defunct Stationary Stores FC., and his active participation as a supporter of the football club.

“My love for Shooting Stars goes way back. I used to travel with the supporters’ club bus. Kabongo really tried during his time,” he said.

“Back in the day, our focus was on local clubs, not Arsenal or Manchester United. We must remove the colonial mentality in our sports and reinvest in our own league.”

“I have been looking forward to a day like this, and now that you have graciously presented me with my branded home and away Jersey’s, I pledged to attend the club’s home matches from time to time and also explore ways to provide financial assistance to boost the club’s operations.

Hon. Adedeji Olajide also praised Governor Seyi Makinde’s efforts in revitalizing sports infrastructure in Oyo State, particularly the renovation of Adamasingba Stadium and the state’s takeover of Liberty Stadium.

“Sports contribute significantly to the economy, and the governor is taking the right steps. I am committed to supporting Shooting Stars in any way that will help them win the championship,” he assured.

Earlier, chairman of the management board of the football club , Hon. Babatunde Olaniyan, who led the delegation on the courtesy visit to Hon. Adedeji Stanley Dhikrullahi Olajide, revealed that the visit is another step in 3SC’s ongoing efforts to mobilize support for the club’s sustainability and quest for dominance in Nigerian football.

“Football is political, and we need the backing of well-meaning individuals to stay competitive, while we also believe your presence at our matches and training sessions will significantly boost the morale of both the players and the management team,” Olaniyan explained.

The Chief Executive Officer of DAKA Foundation, Dr. Kazeem Adesina Abidikugu has called on governments at all levels and Non-Governmental Organizations to encourage the development of Sports as a way of engaging the Nigeria teeming Youths against clandestine activities.

Abidikugu said this, while receiving the AIONIAN Meritorious Award, at the 2025 AIONIAN Games in Ondo state for his contribution to education, sports and youth development.

Abidikugu, who was represented by the Education Coordinator, DAKA Foundation, Abiola Williams, recalled that the AIONIAN is the combination of the first letters of the 4 schools in South West geo-political zone in Nigeria. The schools are Abeokuta Grammar School; Ijebu Ode Grammar School; Ondo Boys High School and Ibadan Grammar School.

Abidikugu, who is an old student of Ibadan Grammar School and a United Kingdom based Psychiatric Consultant, while supporting the school’s contingent with cash for smooth participation at the 2025 AIONIAN Games, said if the youths are engaged in sporting activities they will not be idle hands which are usually the tools of evil.

According to him, “We need to engage our youths in sporting activities. Most of them are in their prime with a lot of energy. This energy can be used to win laurels in sports. In most developed countries, Nigerians and indeed the blacks are the one dominating various sports.

“It is high time, we engage our youths in sporting activities right from schools so that they will stop going into drugs, cultism and other social vices”

Abidikugu while commending the organisers of the AIONIAN Games, Ondo 2025, said, he appreciates the efforts they put into the sustainance of the Games, saying many of the products are doing well in sports in many foreign countries.

While presenting the award, the Chief AIONIAN, Masanwo Sunday Adegbemiga described DAKA CEO as illustrious and distinguished Mountaineer.

“It is my great pleasure to stand before you today to present this meritorious award to an exceptional individual who has made a profound impact in the lives of countless people.

“Dr Adesina Kazeem Abidikugu is a shining example of the values that our Great AIONIAN Brotherhood holds dear, compassionate, generosity, and a commitment to making a positive difference in the world. Through tireless efforts and philanthropic work, he has inspired countless individuals and communities, and has left an indelible mark on our society.

“DAKA Foundation Education Endowment contributions to indigent students have been truly remarkable, and his dedication to creating positive change is a testament to the power of individual action. As we gather here today to recognize his achievements, we are reminded that one person can indeed make a difference.

“It is indeed our honour in AIONIAN Brotherhood to recognize Dr Adesina Kazeem Abidikugu with this award. He has consistently over a decade grant scholarship to indigent students in Ibadan South East and North East and Ibadan Grammar School in particular and we are grateful for the opportunity to celebrate this remarkable achievements”.

Olubadan, Oba Olakulehin Hosts First Royal Ramadan Lecture

In the spirit of the holy month of Ramadan and religious tolerance, His Imperial Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin ( Ige Olakulehin 1) organized the first Ramadan lecture by an Olubadan at his Palace, Oke Aremo, Ibadan on Saturday.

 

The Ramadan lecture which was a very historic and significant one considering the fact that the monarch is a christian and the first to host such, drew people from all walks of life in attendance; partaking in the special prayers and blessings of the holy month.

 

Speaking at the event, the Olubadan appreciated the mammoth crowd in attendance including members of the Olubadan in Council, Royal Fathers, top dignitaries, Islamic Clerics and the various sects at the first of its kind event by a paramount ruler of Ibadanland.

 

” I am overwhelmed by the attendance at this epoch making event which is not only a spiritually edifying one but epitomises religious tolerance in Ibadanland. Inspite of being a christian, i see myself as the father of all and very much impressed with the gathering here irrespective of tribe, religious beliefs, language and location”

 

“As you must be aware, it is a proven fact that most families in Ibadanland comprise of individuals with different religious inclination, yet they still live together as one family. This is a testimony that peaceful co-existence reigns supreme in Ibadanland; the different religious leanings notwithstanding.”

 

In his vote of thanks, the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Royal Majesty Oba ( Senator) Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, emphasised the secular nature of Ibadanland and indeed Oyo State noting that participating in religious activities shows that Ibadan residents live with the fear of God .

 

“The gathering of the Islamic faithful at the Olubadan’s palace today for the Ramadan lecture further confirms that Oyo State is a secular State where every citizen is allowed to practice his or her religion without persecution, intimidation or harassment “.

 

Oba Ladoja enjoined the participants at the lecture to adhere strictly to the lessons learned which included perseverance, humility, love, care for one another and abstaining from sins.

 

The Guest Lecturer, Khalifa Qoseem Ajisafe Akilapa enunciated the theme of the lecture titled,” Destiny ” which simply means the decision of God. According to the Islamic Scholar it is only destiny that made Oba Olakulehin ascend the throne of his forefathers and same for everyone that occupies one position or the other.

 

Imam Ajisafe Akilapa advised all persons in positions of authority including the traditional title holders to imbibe the spirit of forgiveness; always give glory to the Almighty God and avoid treacherous acts.

 

He called on the ruled to be loyal to the constituted authority, humble and carry out any work assigned them or directives given faithfully.

 

Eminent dignitaries that graced the occasion include members of Olubadan – In – Council, Chief Imam of Ibadanland Sheikh Abdul – Ganiyy Abubakr Agbotomokekere, His Eminence Alhaji Dawud Akinola Mokanjuola, Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Edo and Delta State, the President General of Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) Barr.Sulaimon Ajeniyi Ajewole Aare Atunluse of Ibadanland, Mogajis, Baales, Chief Bayo Oyero, Alhaji Diti Ladapo, Islamic religious leaders and the representatives of different associations and Islamic sects.

Aleshinloye Market Inferno: Prince Bayewuwon Sympathizes with Victims, Calls for Government Support

Prince Kayode Oyetunde Bayewuwon has sympathized with victims of tragic fire outbreak at Aleshinloye market in Ibadan, Oyo state capital.

He expressed his sympathy through a message he personally signed and made available to newsmen on Saturday.

While the Ogbomoso born politician promising to do his part for the victims, he appealed to Oyo State Government and relevant stakeholders to swiftly intervene by providing immediate relief and long-term support to the affected traders.

“I am deeply saddened by the tragic fire outbreak at Aleshinloye Market, which has caused immense loss to traders and business owners. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to everyone affected by this unfortunate incident. Losing hard-earned investments and means of livelihood in such a devastating manner is a heavy burden. We will do our part to support the victims of the unfortunate fire incident

 

“I urge the Oyo State Government and relevant agencies to swiftly intervene by providing immediate relief and long-term support to the affected traders. The government must work towards strengthening fire safety measures in our markets to prevent future occurrences. Additionally, I appeal to well-meaning individuals and organizations to extend support to those affected, helping them rebuild their businesses and restore their livelihoods.

 

“At moments like this, unity and collective action are essential. I pray that God grants strength to all the victims and replenish their losses. My thoughts and prayers remain with the traders and the entire Aleshinloye market community, and God willing, we will provide support to the victims.”

On Thursday, Iseyin was abuzz with excitement as community members gathered for the highly anticipated 2025 Shina Peller Ramadan Lecture/Iftar.

This annual event not only served as a platform for spiritual reflection but also fostered a sense of unity among attendees, celebrating the core values of love and peace that resonate deeply within the Islamic faith.

The highlight of the evening was the soul-stirring lecture delivered by the esteemed Guest Lecturer, Sheik Jamiu Ajadi Sanusi, fondly known as AmiOlohun.

His powerful message centered on the importance of love, unity, and peace in our communities, reminding everyone present of the transformative power of these values, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.

Speaking to journalists during the event, Hon. Shina Peller elaborated on the significance of the annual event.

He expressed that the lecture and associated Iftar meal are designed not just to purify Muslim faithful but to strengthen their faith. “This event is a reminder of our responsibilities toward each other and our communities. It provides nourishment for both body and spirit,” he remarked.

The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Bullion Records, Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo has advised Nigerians to submit themselves to whom God has shown mercy so as to pave way for them as well.

Ajadi stated this in a statement on Monday, heralding the third edition of the annual Ramadan lecture of one the the subsidiaries of his company, Bullion Records, to be delivered by Fodhilat Sheikh Abdul Basit Olanrewaju Katibi Bello, popularly known as Aponle Anobi.

The Ramadan lecture is bill to come up on Monday, 17th March, 2025, at Torotoro Quarters, Ibafo Ogun State between 2.00 pm and 7.00pm with the theme, “Submit Yourself to whom God Has Shown Mercy”.

The Lecture will also features Musicians and social personalities like Tope Indomie, Alaafin Alujo; MC Odada; MC Baba Labule, Ijoba Oro; Alhaji Saoty Arewa and Alhaja Azeezat Otibiya Reign.

Ajadi said the essence of the lecture is to give Muslims and Nigerians as whole, more understanding of Prophet Mohammed’s words and teachings, which basically revolve round peace, love and unity.

He said the Holy Month of Ramadan is a blessed month in which Allah forgives all sins, urging Nigerians to stay away from anything that can jeopardise the teachings of Prophet Muhammed in terms of love, unity and peaceful co-existence.

He also admonished Muslims and Nigerian’s as a whole to increase their prayers for the country and its leaders.

According to him, “The essence of our Ramadan lecture is to consistently inculcate the teachings of Prophet Muhammed into our people, which basically revolve around peace, love and unity. This year’s theme, which is the third in the series is, “Submit Yourself to whom God Has Shown Mercy.”

“If Nigerian’s can learn to accept what God has ordained, there won’t be any reason for violence, crime and other clandestine activities.”

“We are using this Holy period of Ramadan and Lent to tell Nigerian’s that we are all serving the same God and we should be able to tolerate each other through love and unity, resulting into peaceful co-existence”, Ajadi said.

Family Announces Mother Titilayo Sonde’s Burial Date

All arrangements have been concluded for the celebration of a life well spent of Gen. Reverend Apostle Mother Rebecca Titilayo Sonde who died on February 18, 2025.

This was disclosed last Friday by the children of the late Supreme Head of Sacred Cherubim and Seraphim Church, Pa. Joseph Olusegun Sonde.

The burial ceremonies will start with a Christian wake-keep on Thursday, April 24, at the Sacred Cherubim & Seraphim, Ebenezer Communion, Adjacent First Option Filling Station, Oke-Ibukun Abiola Way, Abeokuta, Ogun State while burial service will hold on Friday, April 25, at the same venue.

Thereafter, interment will follow while reception will be held immediately after the interment at Providence Event Center, by NNPC Abiola Way, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Mama Titilayo Sonde a respectful woman, whose legacy will forever linger in the hearts of her families, friends and loved ones is survived by brothers, sisters, children and grandchildren.

“A devoted Christian, lover of all and unique woman that used most of her life time to worship God and catered for the family. We prayed to God to give Mummy eternal rest”, the children said in their tributes.
