Alao Felicitates Senator Akintunde @ 63

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Engineer Oyedele Hakeem Alao (Allow Alao), has felicitated with the Senator representing Oyo Central senatorial district, Dr. Yunus Akintunde, on his 63rd birthday.

 

Alao in a congratulatory message he personally signed, said his entry into politics has become a source of inspiration to many, stating that his leadership qualities have impacted not only his constituents but the country as a whole.

 

According to him, since the inception of the present democratic dispensation in 1999, Senator Akintunde is the best person so far to handle his senatorial district with democratic dividends, noting that he has committed himself to the betterment of the lives of the people.

 

The Asiwaju of Irokoland said as a distinguished Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, he has made a name for himself with the quality of his contributions on the floor of the Red Chamber, describing him as a progressive who will go places in politics of the country.

 

He added that his immense contributions to the APC are noteworthy, stating that he is a shining light as a professional in politics.

 

He said, “I want to congratulate my elder brother, distinguished Senator Yunus Akintunde on the occasion of his 63rd birthday.

 

“Senator Akintunde within a short time has etched his name in the minds of the people of Oyo Central senatorial district as he has distinguished himself as the best since 1999 to represent the senatorial district.

 

“I pray that Almighty Allah will continue to be with him and endow him with the ability and wisdom to continue to serve his people and humanity in general.”

Ibarapa Communities Partner NALDA On 15,500-Hectare Agricultural Project

In line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda on job creation and food security, stakeholders from Ibarapa communities of Oyo State have partnered with National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA) to develop 15,500 hectares of virgin land for agriculture.

The initiative, facilitated by Stallion Ridge Limited, marks the largest agricultural investment in Oyo State under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, promising economic growth and food security.

Chief Akinyemi Akinlabi, Chairman/CEO of Stallion Ridge Limited, disclosed that the multi-billion naira project in Ibarapa Central and North Local Government Areas, would commence between April and May with an initial focus on land clearing.

Speaking at NALDA’s office in Abuja, Akinlabi revealed that Igangan provided 6,000 hectares, Igbole allocated 5,000 hectares, and Dr. Olusola Ayandele of AAA Farms contributed 2,500 hectares.

Additionally, the Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology has provided 2,000 hectares, further strengthening the project’s potential for large-scale agricultural development.

The initiative is expected to generate over 16,000 direct jobs for farmers and create employment for about 5,000 factory workers in agro-allied industries across the four farm estates.

Akinlabi stated that the project would contribute over N18 billion annually to Nigeria’s GDP, reinforcing efforts to tackle food insecurity and empower rural communities economically.

This initiative aims to boost food production, create employment opportunities, and enhance economic growth in the region, reinforcing the government’s commitment to sustainable agricultural development and self-sufficiency in food production.

IWD 2025: Oyo South Senator, Alli Seeks Stronger Policies for Gender Equity

Senator Sharafadeen Alli (APC-Oyo South) has joined the global community in celebrating the remarkable contributions of women as the world marks International Women’s Day 2025.

This is contained in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Akeem Abas and made available to newsmen on Saturday in Ibadan.

Senator Alli acknowledged the resilience, strength and achievements of women in various fields, recognising their role in nation-building as well as societal progress.

He stressed the need for continued advocacy for gender equity, urging both public and private opportunities that empower women.

The lawmaker also urged all stakeholders to empower women and bridge the gap in leadership education as well as economic participation.

Senator Alli commended Nigerian women, particularly those in Oyo South Senatorial District, for their unwavering dedication to family, community, and national development.

He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting policies that promote the rights and welfare of women.

“As we celebrate this year’s International Women’s Day, let us all renew our pledge to ensure a more inclusive and equitable society where every woman can thrive and achieve her full potential,” he said.

SWAN recognizes Olajide’s contributions to sports development, honours him with award of excellence

In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the development of sports in Oyo state, the federal lawmaker representing Ibadan North-West/Ibadan South-West Federal Constituency of Oyo State in the National Assembly, Hon. Adedeji Stanley Dhikrullahi Olajide, has been honoured with an Award of Excellence in Sports Development by the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Oyo State Chapter.

The Award was presented by the Chairman of the association in Oyo state, Ayomiku Ajibola.

Speaking at the award presentation ceremony, Hon. Olajide expressed deep appreciation for the recognition, describing it as a significant honour.

He acknowledged that numerous individuals could have been considered for the award, but appreciated the association for deeming him worthy.

“It is a huge honour. There are a lot of people out there, but you chose to honour me. I do not take this for granted,” he stated.

Hon. Olajide, who humbly described himself as “just a storekeeper,” cautioned the organisers to be mindful of the individuals they choose to celebrate, emphasizing that some award recipients in society may not be deserving.

“Be watchful of who you give awards to. There are questionable characters out there. Your institution is very powerful and I hold the media in high regard,” he noted.

Reflecting on the golden era of journalism, the lawmaker paid tribute to veteran journalists, including, Yanju Adegbite, Feyi Ogunduyile, Fabio Lanipekun, among others, whom he described as professionals with contentment and a strong commitment to speaking truth to power.

“These are the crop of people who had contentment. They spoke truth to power,” he said.

Hon. Olajide described politics as a delicate game that requires a strong moral compass, stating that his guiding principle is the fear of God.

“The only difference I hold from the crowd is the fear of God in me. With the fear of God, you are able to guide yourself,” he asserted.

He reiterated his commitment to legislative responsibility, noting that he actively participates in parliamentary debates and ensures his actions align with his conscience.

“I ask questions a lot in the parliament. I do not do anything at the detriment of my conscience,” he declared.

Hon. Olajide decried the state of the nation, describing it as worrisome and charged journalists to remain steadfast as the last hope of the common man. He warned that any compromise in their duties could be detrimental to the country.

“If you journalists compromise, we are done for as a nation. What we have in the media now is mopping up negatives, but you can’t clean up a mess already out there,” he remarked.

The federal lawmaker urged politicians to remain accountable to the people and to uphold integrity in governance, while also calling for the emergence of leaders with credibility and character in Nigeria’s politics, stressing that the nation needs individuals who will work for the good of the people.

He acknowledged the economic challenges facing Nigerians and disclosed that his office will continue making efforts to provide relief to the people within its capacity and also emphasized the importance of financial independence in public service, revealing that having a second source of income has enabled him to continue supporting his constituents.

“I have a second address and that is why I have been able to sustain taking care of my people and in the spirit of the season, we are giving out within our utmost best because there is hunger in the land,” he stated.

A South West Chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, (NNPP) Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo has felicitated former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo on the occasion of his 88th Birthday.

In a goodwill message personally signed by him, Ajadi, while felicitating Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, described the former Nigerian President as a sincere patriot, who has remained relentless, even in old age, in his commitment to building bridges of harmony, equity and progress not only in Nigeria but also in Africa.

“I felicitate you as you celebrate your 88th birthday. You have lived a life of exemplary loyalty, service and patriotism to Nigeria and Africa, building bridges of harmony and making peace.

Ajadi further stated that providence has constantly thrust the former number one citizen of Nigeria at the forefront at critical junctures in the nation’s history, shaping its political landscape and influencing key decisions that have defined it’s trajectory.

He noted that even out of office, only a few will deny the considerable influence Chief Olusegun Obasanjo continue to wield among the political elite at and abroad.

He said Obasanjo’s regular interventions in national affairs have helped shape public policies and thanked him for his onerous contributions to Nigeria as a statesman and leader.

“You are an extraordinary leader and statesman who has made enormous contributions to Nigeria’s development and whose life for the past six decades is woven deeply into the fabric of Nigeria’s history.

“You served the country meritoriously in the Nigerian Army. As a Colonel, fate beckoned on you while commanding the Third Marine Division to receive the instrument of surrender from Col. Philip Effiong, the Biafran Army Commander, signalling the end of Nigeria’s 30 month civil war.

“You have made history as a Military Head of state in 1976 and a civilian president in 1999. During the two era’s, you made important decisions, implemented critical policies and reforms that profoundly impacted the lives of many Nigerians, thereby  consistently demonstrating a selfless commitment to national unity, peace and progress,” the goodwill message read in part.

A business tycoon and South West Chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, (NNPP), Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo has called on the Christians in Nigeria to use the occasion of the Lent to pray for the country, Nigerian political leaders and to demonstrate religious tolerance.

In a message to the Christians across the country, to commentate this year’s Ash Wednesday, Ajadi called on Christians to use the forty days of the lent period to pray for Nigeria, especially political leaders, for God to direct them aright.

According to the statement, “Today is Ash Wednesday, a day set aside to kick off this year’s Lent. In the Christian faith, Lent is a time for reflection, repentance and spiritual preparation for Easter, commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ.”

“During this period, Christians often engage in practices such as fasting, prayer, penance and self-denial to grow closer to God and reflect on the significance of Jesus’ sacrifice.” Ajadi stated further.

While urging Christians to uphold religious tolerance and co-exist peacefully with adherents of other faith to foster peace and tranquility in the country, Ajadi said this year is special because Muslims and Christians are observing their fasting period almost at the same time, saying the uniqueness should be used to pray for Nigeria as according to him there is nothing God cannot do.

“One of the teaching of Jesus Christ is that we should love our neighbours as ourselves. We must uphold this and ensure religious tolerance. When we love our neighbours as ourselves, there will be peace and there will be progress .

“The fact that this year, both Muslims and Christians are having their fasting period almost the same time is a sign that God wants us to use the period to seek his face.

“Therefore we should pray for peace in our land. We should pray for our political leaders and I am sure God would restore our nation’s greatness” he concluded.

As part of efforts to foster unity and strengthen ties within the Oyo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Adedeji Stanley Dhikrullahi Olajide will on Thursday, March 6, 2025, host party leaders, stakeholders and Muslim faithful to a Ramadan Iftar (breaking of fast).

The Iftar, according to Tolu Mustapha, Special Adviser, Media and Public Affairs to Hon. Adedeji Olajide, is scheduled to take place at his Adeoyo residence in Ibadan by 6:00 p.m., will serve as a moment of reflection, prayer and thanksgiving as party leaders converge to reaffirm their commitment to the unity and progress of the PDP.

Hon. Olajide, who represents Ibadan South-West/North-West Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, is expected to use the occasion to emphasize the importance of cohesion within the party as it prepares for future political engagements.

The gathering will also provide an opportunity for attendees to offer prayers for the continued success of the party, the well-being of its leaders and the overall progress of the state and nation.

‘Odidiomo’ Attends Int’l Parliament for Tolerance and Peace

Honorable Adedeji Stanley Dhikrullahi Olajide, Chairman of Nigeria’s House of Representatives committee on Digital, Information, Communication Technology and Cybersecurity has joined global leaders to participate in the 12th session of the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace (IPTP), organized by the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace (GCTP).

The session, according to his Special Adviser, Media and Public Affairs, Tolu Mustapha, holding in Geneva Switzerland is scheduled to bring together parliamentarians from across the glove to discuss strategies towards promoting global tolerance and peace.

The GCTP, he said, is an international organization dedicated to achieving sustainable peace worldwide while it’s parliamentary arm, the IPTP, convenes quarterly to deliberate on global issues related to tolerance and peace, while also issuing recommendations to address contemporary challenges.

At the conference, Hon. Adedeji Olajide, who has been a fore-runner in the quest at shaping Nigeria’s digital policy landscape, is expected to speak on Nigeria’s robust legislative and technological initiatives, highlight key national initiatives including strengthened cyber regulations and enhanced public-private partnership initiatives, designed to safeguard critical digital infrastructure designed at securing the nation’s digital frontier.

Olajide, will also participate in high level panel discussions and bilateral meetings aimed at forging international partnerships that will address challenges posed by cyber threats, digital mis-information, digital peace building, cybersecurity, global stability and parliamentary diplomacy by sharing Nigeria’s experiences and best practices in alignment with the overarching goals of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace.

120th Anniversary: Rotary Club of Ibadan celebrate Abib Olamitoye

The Rotary Club of Ibadan, one of Nigeria’s foremost humanitarian service organizations, celebrated its 120th anniversary in grand style, recognizing distinguished individuals for their outstanding contributions to humanity.

At a well-attended ceremony held at the club’s house in Iyaganku, Ibadan, Dr. Abib Olamitoye, a renowned philanthropist, medical practitioner, businessman and founder, Ibadan Central Hospital was conferred with the prestigious Special Humanity Service Recognition Award of “Rotary Icon of Humanity Service.”

Senator Alli described Ramadan as a period of deep reflection, devotion, and self-discipline, urging Muslims to maximise the spiritual benefits of the sacred month.

He emphasised the significance of fasting, prayers and acts of charity during Ramadan.

The lawmaker called on Muslims to use the opportunity to pray for peace, unity and prosperity in Oyo State, and Nigeria as a whole.

Senator Alli encouraged Muslims to uphold the values of patience, kindness and generousity, which define the essence of Ramadan, and to extend a helping hand to the less privileged in society.

Chief Mrs Anike Agbaje-Williams Africa’s first face on Television passed away on Wednesday 26th February 2025 aged 88 years old. She passed on peacefully in Ibadan where she has lived for most of her life.

Chief Mrs Anike Agbaje-Williams (née Kuforiji)) was born on 23rd October 1936. She was a well-known name in the media world. She made history by being the first face to appear on the first Television station in the whole of Africa on the Western Nigerian Television (WNTV) station (located at Agodi, Ibadan) – both on the Test Transmission Night and on the Official Opening Night (Saturday night October 31, 1959). Hers was also the first voice to be heard on Africa’s First Commercial Radio Station WNBS. She was therefore proclaimed “Double-First”. She had a glorious career and rose through the ranks until she retired in July 1986 as a well respected producer and director of programs.

Her death is a moment of great sadness for the entire family and her loss would be greatly felt by all those who knew her. The family profoundly mourns the passing of a great icon and a much-loved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

The family understands that her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country and also abroad by many people. They would be comforted and reassured by the knowledge that she lived a glorious, remarkable and impactful life. The family would forever cherish the memories of her
great love of broadcasting, her tremendous passion for life and her love for God.

She inspired lots of fans and mentees through the years and the family appreciates your thoughts and prayers. She will remain in our hearts forever.

During the coming period of mourning, the family would appreciate the space and privacy to mourn her at this difficult time. May her soul rest in perfect peace. Funeral Arrangements would be announced later.

World NGO Day: Invaluable contributions of individuals, groups championing positive changes should be recognised – Oso, CEO AfriWomen

Chief Executive Officer of the AfriWomen for Entrepreneurship Initiative, Mrs. Adebukola Oso, has called on individuals and organisations alike to recognise the invaluable contributions of Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) in Nigeria, Africa and across the globe.

She gave the urge in a press statement issued on Thursday by the Publicity and Visibility Team of AfriWomen at the international headquarters of the organisation, New Bodija, Ibadan, Oyo State in commemoration of this year’s World NGO Day.

The World NGO Day, initiated by Latvian-British philanthropist, Marcis Skadmanis, towards recognising NGO efforts globally, was first officially observed on February 27. 2014, with support from the United Nations, European Union, and other international bodies.

According to Oso, the day “serves as an important reminder of the critical role NGOs have been playing in fostering positive social change and empowering communities.

“World NGO Day, celebrated annually on February 27, provides a platform for acknowledging the tireless efforts of those working within the NGO sector. From grassroots organisations to international nonprofits, these entities are vital in addressing social issues, promoting human rights, and supporting sustainable development across the globe.

“Today, we not only celebrate the achievements of NGOs, but also reflect on the sacrifices and dedication of the individuals who drive these initiatives forward.”

Oso stated that at AfriWomen “we are proud to stand alongside countless organisations advocating women’s entrepreneurship and economic empowerment across Africa. We believe that as we are fostering an environment where women can thrive, we are laying the groundwork for a more equitable society.”

She added that AfriWomen has made significant strides in empowering women entrepreneurs by providing training, mentorship, and access to financial resources saying: “AfriWomen has successfully launched initiatives aimed at enhancing the skills and business acumen of women. We are enabling them to create sustainable livelihoods and enhance their contributions to local economies.

‘Odidiomo’ admonishes stakeholders to adopt holistic approach in tackling terrorism

The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Digital, Information Communication Technology and Cybersecurity, Hon. Adedeji Stanley Dhikrullahi Olajide, has urged stakeholders across the country to adopt a holistic approach in tackling terrorism in Nigeria.

Hon. Olajide made this appeal while speaking at the inaugural meeting of the House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee investigating allegations made by a United States Congressman against the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) over alleged terrorism funding, as well as probing the activities of all Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) operating in Nigeria.

The PDP lawmaker, who is a ranking member of the House, stressed the need for a more indigenous response to the lingering security crisis, noting that local intelligence and homegrown solutions would play a critical role in countering terrorism.

According to him, “Terrorism is a global challenge that has plagued even the most powerful nations in the world. However, reliance on foreign support alone cannot solve this problem. We must look inward and establish mechanisms that are tailored to our unique security realities,” he stated.

Hon. Olajide further emphasized that while international collaboration remains crucial, the Nigerian government must develop a self-sustaining strategy to prevent external influences from dictating the country’s security architecture. He called for increased investment in intelligence gathering, community-based security initiatives and enhanced synergy between security agencies and local stakeholders.

“Our security framework must be robust enough to neutralize threats at their roots. The involvement of local communities, traditional rulers and grassroots intelligence operatives cannot be overemphasized,” he added.

The lawmaker also stressed the importance of transparency and accountability in foreign aid and NGO operations within Nigeria, stating that the ongoing investigation by the Ad-hoc Committee was crucial in ensuring that external interventions align with national security interests.

“We must ensure that every organisation operating within our borders adhere strictly to national laws and does not, under any guise, compromise our national security. The allegations made against USAID by a U.S. Congressman must be thoroughly investigated to ascertain the veracity of these claims and take appropriate actions where necessary,” he asserted.

Hon. Olajide, who represents Ibadan North-West/Ibadan South-West Federal constituency in the House of Representatives, reiterated his committee’s commitment to strengthening cybersecurity policies and enhancing Nigeria’s digital infrastructure to curb the spread of extremist ideologies online and across the digital space.

The Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd, Mele Kyari has said that the world recognizes Africa as the next destination of providing greater support to the global energy market, recognizing Nigeria’s position as the largest producer of oil and gas in the continent.

Kyari disclosed this while delivering an address on the theme “Africa’s Energy Renaissance: Unlocking Opportunities for Global Investors”, at the opening ceremony of the 2025 Nigeria International Energy Summit (NIES), in Abuja, on Tuesday.

The GCEO, who noted that Nigeria stands as Africa’s largest producer of oil and gas, playing a pivotal role in the global energy market, affirmed that oil will remain a critical component of the global energy mix well into 2025, contributing over 39 percent of global oil demand as the world will require more than 100 million barrels of oil daily.

“At NNPC Ltd., we view gas not merely as a transitional fuel, but as a vital and sustainable alternative for the future. Currently, over 70% of Nigeria’s population lacks access to clean cooking fuel, and more than 50% remains without reliable access to electricity. These gaps present a significant opportunity for gas to play a transformative role,” Kyari noted.

He explained that it was based on these realities that Nigeria is prioritizing the development of the essential infrastructure, regulatory frameworks, and fiscal incentives needed to harness gas as a key solution for improving energy access and driving national development.

Underscoring the immense opportunities Africa holds in the energy sector, Kyari said gas infrastructure development remains critical to driving a trillion-dollar economy in Nigeria.

“Nigeria poised to take a leading role in unlocking the continent’s full potentials in terms of natural gas. The NNPC Ltd is leading the charge in delivering gas to domestic gas-based industries and power plants, while building the needed infrastructure to ultimately bolster economic growth,” the GCEO stated.

While attributing the reforms in the industry to the right leadership who have created fiscal terms for gas, Kyari stressed that many Final Investment Decisions (FIDs) announced were as a result of President Bola Tinubu’s Executive Order on Oil & Gas, which he said provided fiscal incentives for ease of doing business.

“Today, investors are increasingly recognizing that investing in Nigeria, particularly in the oil and gas sector, offers not only the potential for solid returns but also a stable fiscal environment that promises long-term profitability,” Kyari said.

He described the renewed confidence in Nigeria’s investment climate as a major driver in the resurgence of interest from global investors, who are returning to the country to capitalize on the growing opportunities within the sector.

The theme of this year’s Nigeria International Energy Summit is, “Bridging Continents: Connecting investors Worldwide with Africa’s Energy Potential.”
