Birthday: Alli Celebrates Oyo APC Secretary, Olanite

Senator Sharafadeen Alli (APC-Oyo South) has extended his heartfelt birthday wishes to the State Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Alhaji Tajudeen Olanite.

This is contained in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Akeem Abas, and made available to newsmen on Saturday in Ibadan.

Senator Alli described the celebrant as a committed leader and a loyal party stalwart, whose contributions to the party are commendable.

He lauded Olanite’s dedication to the growth and unity of the APC in Oyo State, acknowledging his pivotal role in fostering cooperation and inclusivity within the party.

Senator Alli praised Olanite’s steadfastness, administrative acumen, and unwavering loyalty to the party’s ideals.

“As you celebrate another year today, I pray that Almighty Allah continues to grant you sound health, wisdom, and strength to keep contributing to the progress of our party and our dear state.

“May your life be filled with countless blessings and peace,” the statement read.

He reiterated his commitment to working alongside all APC leaders including Olanite to achieve the collective goals of the party in Oyo State.

Pay Tax or Face Consequences – OYSG Warns

The Oyo State Government has warned business owners domiciled in the state and residents against invading taxes, just as it says government might use legal action against such an individual.

The government said it’s time to clear all backlogs of taxes payments and ensure residents of the state fulfil their civic responsibilities and obligations to the State.

The Executive Chairman, Oyo State Board of Internal Revenue Olufemi Adebowale Awakan who stated this in a statement he personally signed in Ibadan said payment of taxes and levies are not optional as stated in Section 24 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

According to him, every citizen who earns income on its trade, business, profession, vocation or employment MUST pay the correct amount of taxes.

The statement further stated that Payment of taxes is not a punishment by the government on her citizens, but a compulsory obligation by all citizens to the government.

The statement further said tax obligations are governed by several laws, primarily the Federal Inland Revenue Act, Personal Income Tax Act (2011) amended and various state tax laws which must be obeyed.

Awakan stating some of the punishment available for tax invaders, the statement reads; “Serious cases of tax evasion can lead to criminal charges. Convictions may result in imprisonment, fines, or both, depending on the severity of the offense. The tax authorities have the power to assess and determine the tax owed if an individual or business does not file returns or pay taxes.

“This can lead to additional penalties like fines and interest. The government can seize assets or bank accounts of individuals or businesses that fail to comply with tax obligations. Businesses that neglect their tax obligations may face difficulties in renewing licenses or permits necessary for operation. Tax authorities can take legal action to recover unpaid taxes, which may involve court proceedings.

“Non-compliance with tax laws can lead to reputational harm, affecting relationships with clients, customers, and business partners.”

Awakan advice that citizens should pay their taxes as at when due promptly.

Senator Alli Celebrates Oyo North Counterpart, Buhari On Birthday

Senator Alli lauded Buhari for his unwavering commitment to the welfare of his constituents and his exemplary contributions to debate at the National Assembly.

 

The lawmaker said that the celebrant’s legislative achievements and leadership qualities have set a benchmark for excellence in governance.

 

“Senator Abdulfatai Buhari is a remarkable statesman and a pillar of support for the people of Oyo North.

 

“His selfless service, dedication to the APC, and tireless efforts to promote good governance continue to inspire many of us.

Olubadan Lauds Group for Supporting Primary Education

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin Ige Olakulehin 1 has commended the Ibadan based sociocultural group Egbe Borokini of Ibadanland for supporting primary education in Ibadanland through the back to school initiative.

The commendation was given at Olubadan palace, Oke Aremo, Ibadan on Wednesday Where students were empowered will School bags and exercise books.

According to the paramount ruler, government alone cannot shoulder education responsibilities thus the need for all hands to be on deck for the provision of qualitative for our children at all levels.

Speaking through Chief Ogunwale, the Gbonka of Olubadan, the monarch said for our children to have solid education background we should see the provision of qualitative education as a collective responsibility.

“Our children are our future leaders consequently, solid education foundation should be laid down for them in order for them to be able to competite favourably among their peers.

“Education is the best legacy we can give to our children and wards for them to lead a meaningful life , kabiyesi further stressed.”

He enjoined other sociocultural groups to emulate the kind gesture of Borokini group in caring for our young ones in order to fulfill their destiny.

Earlier in the welcome address delivered by the president of the group Aare (Dr)Yusuf Olatunji Lawal expressed his gratitude to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin Ige Olakulehin 1, chairman of Oyo SUBEB, Dr. Nureni Adeniran, all Education Secretaries from eleven Local Government Areas of Ibadanland, chairman of park management system, Alhaji Tomiwa Omolewa for their support to make the occasion a huge success.

The president commended the teachers who accompanied the students to the venue of the ceremony , promising that the group will not relent in supporting our youths especially in the field of education so as to enable them exhibit their potential and talent.

The guest lecturer, Chief Saheed Ladele, Bameeko of Ibadanland encouraged the beneficiaries not to let their poor background negatively affect their future but instead try to excel in their academic career.

The Sociocultural group,” Egbe Borokini” of Ibadanland later distributed school bags and exercise books to 150 students drawn from three schools from eleven Local Government Areas of Ibadanland.

How Digital Economy, E-Governance Bill Will Favor Everybody – ‘Odidiomo’ Reveals

Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Olajide, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Digital, Information Communication Technology (ICT), and Cybersecurity, has revealed that the Digital Economy and E-Governance Bill, once passed into law at the national level and fully operational, will be domesticated across all 36 states of the federation.

Hon. Olajide made this declaration during a roundtable discussion at the ongoing Africa Internet Governance Forum (AfIGF) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The forum, which brings together stakeholders across the continent, focuses on fostering inclusive internet governance and addressing emerging challenges in the digital space.

A statement by Tolu Mustapha, Special Adviser, Media and Public Affairs to the lawmaker stated that, Hon. Olajide, while speaking at the roundtable discussion, highlighted the importance of the legislation in driving Nigeria’s transition into a digitally empowered economy, capable of competing effectively in the global arena.

He said the digital economy and e-governance bill represents a critical step toward integrating digital economy frameworks and e-governance practices into the Nigerian system.

Hon. Olajide disclosed that one of the pivotal features of the bill, is the establishment of a National Council on Digital Economy and E-Governance, which will play a central role in overseeing and coordinating activities within the digital economy.

“The council will serve as the backbone for digital transformation in Nigeria. It will coordinate efforts across all levels of government, ensuring the smooth implementation of policies and initiatives aimed at building a robust digital economy,” Hon. Olajide stated.

While elaborating on the council’s responsibilities, which will include, coordinating digital economy activities, facilitating digital transformation, developing digital economy policies, promoting e-governance and encouraging private sector participation among others, Hon. Olajide emphasized, that the domestication of the bill across all states will ensure uniformity in implementing digital economy policies.

This approach, he explained, would foster equitable development and ensure that no region is left behind in the quest for digital transformation.

“The digital economy is the future and Nigeria cannot afford to lag behind. With this bill, we are laying the foundation for a vibrant, inclusive, and globally competitive digital ecosystem,” he said.

The digital economy and e-governance bill is expected to be presented for a second reading in the House of Representatives before the end of the legislative year.

NURTW Trustee Blames Ex-President Yasin for Leadership Crisis, Says MC Oluomo is an impostor

A National Trustee of the National Union of Road Transport Workers Union (NURTW), Alhaji Abideen Olajide popularly called Ejiogbe on Wednesday blamed a former President of the Union, Alhaji Najimu Yasin as the brain behind the leadership crisis rocking the Union since year 2023.

Olajide Ejiogbe who doubles as the Oyo State Chairman of the NURTW, alleged Yasin of destroying the Union which once prodded him to the limelight and gave him means of livelihood alongside his headship of the Union as president and later Chairman, Board of Trustees.

Insisting that Alhaji Ibikunle Tajudeen Baruwa remained the authentic President of the Union having won the race for a second term of another four years, Olajide Ejiogbe said, “Alhaji Baruwa won the election and also won severally the law suits instituted against him” by those he referred to as the enemies of progress of the Union.

“Accordingly to our Union’s constitution, Alhaji Najimideen Yasin spent remainder of two years of Gidado regime and spent two terms of four years each making 10 years altogether as President and yet, “still feels unfulfilled and hellbent on rubbishing his successor in the person of Alhaji Baruwa from enjoying his own terms as enshrined in the NURTW constitution.

“Baruwa is our president but Yasin is frustrating him because of the BoT chairmanship. He knew that once Baruwa completed two terms, he would become next BoT Chairman and Yasin would be asked to step down automatically.

“But he didn’t want that to happen and that’s why when Baruwa was sworn-in for second term in August last year, at the well attended inauguration held at Nasarawa State, his arch-rival Agbede went to court yet lost gallantly.

“They conveyed meeting of retired past leaders in the zone and made Alhaji Musliudeen Akinsanya (a.k.a. MC Oluomo) president of the Union contrary to the rule and the procedures in the Union when a sitting president won through popular votes and consent of all members with courts validating his headship of the Union till date.

“They are trying to rubbish the nation’s judiciary and what they did in Osogbo amounted to the contempt of the court which validated the presidency of Alhaji Baruwa.

“You, journalists should ask Musiliu Akinsanya popularly called MC Oluomo to name the four states out of the six Southwestern states that he claimed supported him. If he says Ekiti; Lagos; Ogun and Ondo states, then he missed it because Yaro in Ogun state chapter and Falope of Ekiti State chapter had both voted Baruwa in 2023 May 24, 2023, and that election is still standing till date in the face of the Law as upheld by courts of higher jurisdictions including the National Industrial Court.

“MC Oluomo has no locus standi to claim Presidency of our Union. To buttress our facts that Yasin was behind the crisis, he surreptitiously used his son, Teslim Usman Yasin, Secretary of the Lagos chapter to send letters for the meeting where MC purportedly emerged.

“Who presided over it? Who is the General Secretary there? Falope claimed that he was the only functional chairman when Baruwa was elected was a nonsense talk because the NURTW in Oyo state is existing administratively and our dues are being paid to the national level monthly.

“All the Elected Officers in the State pay our monthly due despite that we are not working and we have the rights under the law to function accordingly.

“We urge the Federal Government and security agencies to allow Baruwa function as our President. MC Oluomo is an impostor and not our member because he is a park and garages member and not NURTW member any longer,” Olajide Ejiogbe added.

On Monday, human rights lawyer, Mr Femi Falana in a statement to the media advised the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Lateef Fagbemi SAN and the Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Kayode Egbetokun to ensure that Comrade Baruwa is restored as national president of NURTW without further delay.
His words: “On August 28, 2023, a gang of armed thugs invaded the National Secretariat of the National Union of Road Transport Workers at Abuja. One of the security men guarding the said Secretariat was killed by the armed invaders.

“At the end of the violent invasion, the Secretariat was seized while the elected President, Comrade Tajudeen Baruwa and members of his Executive were arrested and charged with murder before a Magistrate Court in the Federal Capital Territory. However, the charge of murder was withdrawn and struck out after the successful but illegal seizure of the Secretariat!

“As a law abiding citizen, Comrade Baruwa approached the National Industrial Court for legal redress. In a judgment delivered on March 11, 2024, the Court confirmed Comrade Baruwa and members of his Executive as the elected leaders of the NURTW.

“Dissatisfied with the judgment, the opponents of Comrade Baruwa appealed to the Court of Appeal. On November 8, 2024, the Court of Appeal delivered its judgment. The Justices of the Court dismissed the appeal and confirmed the judgment of the National Industrial Court which had recognised Comrade Baruwa as the President of the NURTW.

“In view of the foregoing, we call on the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Lateef Fagbemi SAN and the Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Kayode Egbetokun to ensure that Comrade Baruwa is restored to his office in strict compliance with the judgments of the National Industrial Court and the Court of Appeal”.

‘Odidiomo’ calls for united approach to address challenges of internet governance in Africa

The Chairman, House of Representatives committee on Digital, Information Communication Technology and Cybersecurity, Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Olajide, has called for a united approach to address the challenges of internet governance in Africa. 

Hon. Olajide made the call, while speaking at the 13th Africa Internet Governance Forum (AfIGF), currently taking place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from November 20 to 22, 2024.

 

With the theme “Building Our Multi-Stakeholder Digital Future for Africa,” the forum brought together policymakers, industry stakeholders, civil society and academics from across the continent to deliberate on the future of internet governance, cybersecurity and the role of digital technology in driving development.

 

Addressing the gathering as part of the Nigerian delegation, Hon. Olajide highlighted the need for Africa to adopt inclusive policies that reflect the voices of all stakeholders, especially marginalized communities, in shaping its digital landscape.

 

He said, “Building a sustainable and equitable digital future for Africa demands collaborative efforts from government, private sector actors, academics and civil society, in order to ensure a truly inclusive digital ecosystem where no one is left behind.”

 

While reaffirming Nigeria’s leadership role in Africa’s digital transformation, citing ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to increase broadband access, foster innovation and strengthen cybersecurity frameworks, Hon. Olajide commended the progress made so far and identified critical challenges affecting Africa’s digital space, including poor infrastructure, limited access to affordable internet and rising cyber threats.

 

He called for increased regional collaboration to address these issues, urging African nations to prioritize digital literacy, inclusion and security, while further stating that Nigeria’s experiences in overcoming digital challenges can serve as a model for other African nations.

 

“Nigeria is committed to advancing ICT development through enabling policies and investments. We have made significant progress in broadband penetration, created an ecosystem for technology-driven startups and established a robust framework for data protection and cybersecurity.”

 

“Africa must not only embrace technology but also ensure that its use is safe, secure, and accessible to all,” he noted.

 

The AfIGF featured a series of panel discussions, workshops and keynote presentations addressing key topics such as digital innovation, data privacy, artificial intelligence and bridging the digital divide.

In his continued efforts to equip youths in his constituency with 21st-century skills, Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Olajide, member representing Ibadan Southwest/Northwest Federal Constituency of Oyo State at the House of Representatives, has facilitated a comprehensive digital literacy and data protection training programme for 600 youths.

The training, held in collaboration with the Federal College of Horticulture, Dadin Kowa, aimed to prepare youths in the constituency and Oyo State for the digital economy. It introduced participants to the latest innovations, enabling them to compete with their peers globally.

The programme empowered participants with essential skills and knowledge, including basic computer operations, internet usage, digital marketing, cybersecurity, and principles of data protection and privacy.

 

It will be recalled that Hon. Adedeji Olajide, popularly called “Odidimo,” has consistently demonstrated his commitment to bridging the digital divide among Nigerian youths. He has championed initiatives to train and retrain young individuals in his constituency while emphasizing the critical need for cybersecurity and information security in Nigeria.

Earlier in his remarks, Hon. Olajide, represented by his Senior Legislative Assistant, Kunle Folarin, highlighted the transformative power of digital literacy. “Digital literacy is not just an advantage; it is a necessity,” he stated. He expressed confidence that the training would open new opportunities for beneficiaries while educating them on protecting their online identities and ensuring digital safety.

He identified the dangers of sharing sensitive information online, advising participants to adopt strong passwords, avoid phishing scams, and remain vigilant in their online interactions.

On his part, the National Commissioner/CEO of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), Dr. Vincent O. Olatunji, represented by Mrs. Abiola Jide-Abe, Head of Strategy, Partnerships, and Communication, emphasized the programme’s focus on equipping youths with foundational digital skills.

He encouraged Nigerians to take proactive measures in protecting their personal data and noted that the initiative could inspire similar programmes across Oyo State and beyond, fostering a digitally skilled and secure society.

Oyo South Senator, Alli Commiserates With Olugbon Over Mother’s Demise

Senator Sharafadeen Alli (APC-Oyo South) has expressed heartfelt condolences to the Olugbon of Orile-Igbon, Oba Francis Alao, over the passage of his beloved mother, Deaconess Margaret Oyeronke Alao.

This is contained in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Akeem Abas, and made available to newsmen on Sunday in Ibadan.

Deaconess Margaret Oyeronke Alao passed away in the early hours of Friday at the age of 81 after a period of illness.

Senator Alli described the death of Deaconess Alao as a significant loss not only to the royal family of Orile-Igbon but also to all those who were privileged to know her.

He said that the late Deaconess Alao was a virtuous woman, a devoted Christian and a mother figure whose life was dedicated to the service of God as well as humanity.

“Deaconess Margaret Oyeronke Alao lived an exemplary life filled with unwavering faith, love, and care for her family and community.

“Her departure is a painful reminder of the inevitability of death, but we take solace in the fact that she left a legacy of godliness, kindness and integrity that will remain etched in the hearts of all who knew her,” he said.

The lawmaker commended Oba Francis Alao for the strength and leadership he has displayed during this challenging time, urging him to draw comfort from the impactful life his mother lived and the eternal peace she now enjoys.

He prayed that God grant the royal family and the people of Orile-Igbon the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

“Please accept my deepest sympathies, and may the soul of Mama rest in perfect peace,” he added.

Ondo 2024: Senator Alli congratulates Gov. Aiyedatiwa on election victory

Don’t relent in promoting religious tolerance – Olubadan admonishes Sultan

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakunlehin, Ige Olakulehin 1 has enjoined the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, to continue to play the positive roles he has been playing in the promotion of religious tolerance in the country.

Oba Olakulehin gave these words of encouragement when the Sultan of Sokoto paid him a courtesy visit at his palace, Oke Aremo Ibadan on Sunday.

The Sultan was accompanied to the Olubadan Palace by the Deputy Governor of Oyo, Barrister Abdul-Raheem Adebayo Lawal, President of Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN) and Deputy President – General of Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo and other leaders of the organisation.

Oba Olakulehin who spoke through the Ekaarun Balogun of Ibadanland, High Chief (Senator) Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, commended the Sultan for what he has been doing as the co-chairman of Nigeria Inter-Religious Council (NIREC).

The monarch while speaking further encouraged the Sultan to continue in what he has been doing in order to promote religious harmony and tolerance across the country.

STAKEHOLDERS HAILED PRESIDENT TINUBU FOR REACHING 1.8M BPD OIL PRODUCTION, PREDICT ECONOMIC REBOUND

Stakeholders in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector have commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for achieving a milestone oil production rate of 1.8 million barrels per day (bpd).

This accomplishment has sparked optimism about the country’s economic prospects with indigenous oil and gas stakeholders saying 2 million barrel per day by December 31st, 2024 was possible and indeed achievable.

According to the Industry experts who praised the president’s tireless efforts to revamp the oil sector, cited the implementation of new technologies to monitor facilities and prevent disruptions and theft.

Chairman of Tantita Security Services Nigeria limited, TSSNL, Chief Government Ekpemupolo, also known as Tompolo, had earlier expressed optimism that Nigeria will hit two million barrels of oil production per day before the end of 2024.

“We are determined to take oil production to 2 million bpd before the year ends, as directed by President Tinubu. All necessary machinery has been put in place to achieve this target and galvanize the economy.”

The stakeholder emphasized that reaching this target would significantly boost government revenue, enabling the president and his team to effectively govern the country.

With this achievement, stakeholders are confident that Nigeria’s economy will soon rebound, driven by the oil and gas sector’s growth.

As the country moves closer to achieving the 2 million bpd target, industry experts and stakeholders are eagerly anticipating the positive impact on Nigeria’s economy.

Awakan vows to recover revenue due to Oyo state

The Executive Chairman of the Oyo State Internal Revenue Service, Mr. Olufemi Adebowale Awakan has vowed to ensure the recovery of all internal revenue due to the state, emphasizing the necessity of timely tax payments from residents.

Awakan in an interview, outlined his commitment to enhancing the state’s revenue generation efforts while praising the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde.

He commended Governor Makinde for his exemplary governance, stating, “I commend Governor Seyi Makinde for his exemplary leadership in governing Oyo State.

“His commitment to leaving the state better than he found it reflects his deep care for the residents.”

He pointed out that the governor’s support has been unwavering since he took office, noting, “Since I assumed the role of Executive Chairman of the Oyo State Board of Internal Revenue in November 2021, the governor has never interfered in the board’s operations.”

“On my first day, he encouraged me to ‘do the right thing,’ and he has consistently acknowledged the efforts of our team.”

Expressing optimism about the future, Awakan remarked, “If past leaders had shared this same dedication, Oyo State would have made even greater strides.”

He acknowledged the pressure the board faces in generating revenue but expressed gratitude to the people of the State, saying, ”I appreciate the people of Oyo State for taking up the task of paying their tax as and when due. However, many are still not doing what they need to do.”

Looking ahead to 2025, Awakan warned of potential challenges due to upcoming reforms in the internally generated revenue sector.

He urged the affluent members of the community, stating, “I appeal to the rich and those who are well-to-do to pay their taxes as and when due next year.”

He further emphasised, “There will be no room for evasion, as we will collaborate closely with the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and the Joint Tax Board to collect all due revenues.”

Awakan assured residents that the board would operate within legal bounds, sating, “Rest assured, we will adhere to the law and not impose charges beyond what is legally required.”

He called for cooperation, adding, “Let us work together with the government. We can see the infrastructural development going on in the state, and we can also see that workers’ salaries are being paid promptly.”

Highlighting the broader impact of tax compliance, he warned, “When the government does not pay salaries, it will affect everybody.”

He encouraged citizens to support the government, stating, “I am appealing to us to support the government so that it can also do the needful. We can’t continue to put all the responsibilities on the shoulders of the government as good citizens.”

Awakan reminded residents that there are penalties for tax defaulters and that the government is actively working to establish more tax tribunals.

“We will in collaborate with these tribunals to ensure compliance and accountability.” He stated.

GDJAN Lauds Oyo NUJ Chairman, Babalola for Embracing Grassroots Inclusivity at His Mother’s Funeral Reception

In a heartwarming display of compassion and unity, the Grassroots & Development Journalists Association of Nigeria (GDJAN) has extended its commendations to Comrade Ademola Babalola, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Oyo State Council, for his thoughtful consideration towards the underprivileged and grassroots communities at his late mother’s final funeral reception.

The event honored Mama Wulemotu Aweni Babalola and took place in Elekuro, a densely populated and historically underprivileged area, bringing the community together to share in the ceremony and celebrate her life.

In a press release issued by GDJAN Secretary Mrs. Ramat Alade, the association praised Babalola’s choice of venue, which demonstrated a rare commitment to his local community. “Comrade Babalola’s decision to hold this gathering in Elekuro, where the masses and underprivileged reside in high numbers, reveals a leader with the heart of the people, a man who remains connected to his roots,” Alade noted. She further expressed that hosting such an event in a local, accessible area allows the entire community to feel included, honored, and supported.

Ordinarily, many expected Babalola to hold the event in one of Ibadan’s high-profile event centers, particularly given the esteemed guests in attendance, but his commitment to the grassroots was evident as he returned to his family’s community. “His choice to host the reception on familiar grounds underscored his desire to give back to his people and allow everyone—family, friends, and local residents—to participate,” GDJAN stated.

The open invitation to the event, held at Elekuro Grammar School, provided a welcoming atmosphere, with no restrictions on who could attend. Attendees, from young children to the elderly, the able-bodied to the differently abled, enjoyed the abundance of food and drinks, creating an environment of inclusion and warmth. “No one who arrived at the venue left without being served. Babalola demonstrated respect for the community by making everyone feel equal in the celebration of his mother’s life,” the release continued.

Several local vendors and residents, like Falilat, known as “Ìyá Olobi” and a local kolanut seller, shared their gratitude for the opportunity to engage in business and witness such an event. “Today has been a blessing for us here,” Falilat shared, visibly touched. “We’ve been treated like part of the family. I saw the Commissioner of Police for the first time in my life, and yet we felt welcomed and free. I was able to feed my children, and we even made some money from selling our goods. It’s rare to see such gatherings where everyone benefits and feels respected.”

GDJAN’s release also expressed gratitude to the array of public officials who honored the occasion with their presence or sent representatives. This list of dignitaries included the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments (ALGON) in Oyo State and Egbeda Local Government Chairman, Hon. Sikiru Oyedele Sanda; Oluyole Local Government Chairman, Engr. Akeem Olatunji; and Ona Ara Local Government Chairman, Dr. Kolapo Glorious. Additionally, the Chairman of the Oyo State Local Government Staff Pension Board, Hon. Akeem Ademola Ige, and other grassroots leaders were acknowledged for supporting the event.

“This unifying gathering stands as a testament to the close bond and unity within Ibadanland and Oyo State as a whole,” the statement concluded. GDJAN emphasized that Babalola’s thoughtful approach not only honored his mother’s memory but also reinforced his commitment to his roots, setting a powerful example for leaders across Nigeria.

‘Odidiomo’ Facilitates Digital Literacy, Data Protection Training for 600 Constituents

Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Olajide, the federal lawmaker representing Ibadan North-west/Ibadan south-west Federal Constituency of Oyo State, at the national assembly will on Monday, 18th November, 2024, host a comprehensive Digital Literacy and Data Protection Training for 600 youth across his constituency. 

 

The training, scheduled to take place at the Jogor Centre in Ibadan, is designed to equip young Nigerians with critical skills in digital technology and cybersecurity, which are increasingly necessary in today’s tech-driven world.

 

The training programme which is being organized in collaboration with the Federal College of Horticulture, Dadin Kowa, and supported by private sector partners, Salico-Prime Investment Limited and Manban Global Concept Nigeria Limited, is expected to have a transformative impact on the youth, helping them acquire digital literacy skills with emphasis of personal data protection in an era where online security is a growing concern.

 

In a statement made available to newsmen on the commencement of the training by his Special Adviser, Media and Public Affairs, Tolu Mustapha, the two term lawmaker explained that the initiative is part of his ongoing efforts to empower the youth in his constituency, ensuring they are well-equipped to thrive in an increasingly digital world.

 

“This training is an opportunity for the youth in Ibadan North-West and Ibadan South-West federal constituency of Oyo state to enhance their digital skills and understand the fundamental principles of data protection,” Olajide said.

 

“We live in a digital age where information is key and safeguarding personal data is critical. This training will provide practical insights on how to use technology responsibly and securely.

 

“It is not enough for our youth to be familiar with technology alone, they must also understand how to protect themselves and their information online,” he added.
