Olubadan Installs Adegoke Adebayo As Mogaji

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Dr. Akinloye Owolabi Ige Olakulehin I, has installed Chief Isiaka Adegoke Adebayo as the Mogaji Ile-Ayeye, Ibadan.

The ceremony took place on Monday at the Olubadan Palace, Oke-Aremo, Ibadan.

The installation was performed in the presence of the Olubadan-In-Council and attended by dignitaries from all walks of life.

Recall that in Ibadanland, every compound has a Mogaji who may rise to become the Olubadan in the future in accordance with the Olubadan ascendancy arrangement of Ibadanland.

According to the Olori Ẹbi of Ile-Ayeye, Akọgun ‘Ṣegun Obe, the former Secretary General (2019-2023) of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) and former Secretary to the Local Government (1999-2002) of Ibadan North Local Government, he said Ayeye their ancestor was a warrior from Oyo-Ile (Old Oyo).

“He was one of the prominent warriors who opted to stay in Ibadan after the Owu war in 1810. After the Owu War, the warriors from Ifẹ, Oyo and some from Ijẹbu who fought in the war did not go back to their towns but opted to stay in Ibadan. Initially, they did not have the intention of starting a town, they just used the place as a hideout and camp where they normally come back to after their various expeditions. It was a war camp. Later the camp grew and a city evolved.

“They eventually picked Mayẹ, the head of the warriors from Ifẹ to be the overall head or Baalẹ. The choice of Mayẹ at the time was made possible because the warriors from Ife were more than others from other towns. The most prominent names of the warriors in Ibadan at that time were – Maye, Ege, Labọsinde, Oro, Sinunsin and Ogidi (who were warriors from Ifẹ and Ijẹbu), while the warriors from Ọyọ and Osun were Oluyedun, Oluyole, Babalola (Baba Fijabi), Ọdẹrinlọ (Baba Tanpe), Ọpẹagbe, Lakanlẹ, Toki, Olupoyi, Onibudo and Ayẹyẹ. Lamọdi is the head of the Ẹgba warriors that resides in Ibadan at that time.

“It was Ayeye that started the Ayeye market that is still at Ayeye Compound up till today. Mọgaji Yussuf Mogbọnjubọla was the last Mọgaji of Ile Ayeye. He became Mọgaji in the early 1950s and died on the 23rd January 1973. Since then, Ile Ayeye have not had another Mọgaji up till now when Mọgaji Isiaka Adegoke Adebayo was installed on Monday 16th June 2055. The Ayeye Dynasty consists of four sections; Mogbọnjubọla, Obe, Adebayọ and Alarape.”

The new Mogaji is from the Adebayọ Section of the Ayeye Dynasty. He’s a member of the prestigious Ibadan House of Lords an affiliate Club Member of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes.

NNPP’s Ajadi Says Nigeria Can’t Be a One Party State, Visits Olopoeyan in Ibadan

A South West Chieftain of the New Nigeria People’s Party, ( NNPP) Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo has said that nobody can turn Nigeria to a one party State because according to him, Nigerians are too wise, too sophisticated to belong to only a political party.

Ajadi made this known while speaking with Journalists in Ibadan on Tuesday, when he paid a courtesy call on the Ibadan based grassroot politician, Alhaji Adebisi Olopoeeyan.

He said if President Bola Tinubu refused to change the current narrative to favour the people, the All Progressives Congress (APC) will receive shock during the next election in 2027 from the opposition.

“It is not possible to have a one party system in Nigeria. A single person cannot change the country’s party system. We are a multi party State. I am very sure that by the next election something will happen, except President Bola Tinubu change the narrative positively to favour the masses”.

He said he decided to pay a courtesy call on Alhaji Olopoeeyan because he (Olopoeeyan) is his political leader and father

Speaking on the visit, Ajadi said, Alhaji Olopoeeyan has been calling on him to visit him in Ibadan, saying he heeded to that call on Tuesday.

Ajadi said, “I am surprised today that the whole discussion has been centred on a call on me to shift my politics to Oyo State. I am an Ibadan Indigene. My father is a known figure in Oja Igbo, in Ibadan North East Local Government.

“Alhaji Olopoeeyan admonished me to come to Ibadan, my home town to practice politics. He said though my Mum is from Ilaro in Ogun State, I should come to my state of origin to practice politics.

“You may want to ask how I feel about that. To me it didn’t make any difference, politics is about serving the people and I have interest in turning the son of nobody to somebody. I love to serve the masses.

“Politics is about serving the people. When you have the passion to serve, anywhere you are, you are good to go We have a lot to do and we keep doing our best for the people.

Also speaking Olopoeeyan, who is a chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), said that he dragged the former governorship candidate of the party in Ogun State, Ambassador Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, to Oyo State politics so that he can contribute to the development of his father’s land, Ibadan and his state of origin, Oyo.

On Tuesday, when Ajadi came visiting, Olopoeeyan said though he has returned to the PDP but will soon officially announce his return to the party in a funfair, adding that he wouldn’t know if his nephew, Ajadi would join his new party.

“But I think he has done enough politically and in terms of empowerment for the people on the side of his mother’s origin in Ogun.

“I believe he will follow me to wherever I am going. He has been a good sibling, a loyal party man in NNPP. We hardly disagree. I believe he will continue to go where I ask him to go politically.

“But he is an accomplished person in his own right; I can’t force my opinion on him. He will take his decision. But I said he has to come to Ibadan to help in building his father’s state too, after contributing to the development of Ogun where his mother hailed from.

“We are politicians, and I am not unmindful of the need for him to identify with his roots. He has been involved in many philanthropic activities in Yewaland and Ogun State in general. Let him help Ibadanland too. He is from Oja’gbo in Ibadan. We need him. He will tell me his decision,” Olopoeeyan said.

The Chairman, House of Representatives committee on Digital, Information Communication Technology and Cybersecurity, Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Stanley Olajide, has expressed heartfelt gratitude to the people of Ibadan North‑West and Ibadan South‑West Federal Constituency of Oyo state, for their unwavering support spanning the 9th and the current 10th Assembly.

Orisunmibare, Ita Faaji, Opopin Residents Cry Out to Makinde Over Deplorable Roads

Residents of Orisunmibare/Ita Faaji Community in Ido Local Government Area of Oyo State have appealed to Governor ‘Seyi Makinde to rescue them from unending agonies of bad community road, especially during the rainy season.

The community, located in Ido Local Government Area, falls within the Ido/Ibarapa Federal Constituency and Oyo South Senatorial District of Oyo state.

The residents made the appeal after experiencing daily heavy rainfalls consecutively for six days, since last Friday (Sallah Day) and which has rendered impassable the only road serving the community from the Wire and Cable end of the Apata-Abeokuta Road.

Speaking with newsmen on Friday, leaders of the 22 communities that made up the Orisunmibare/Ita Faaji/Oganla/Alada/Opopin Community appealed to Governor Makinde to come to their aid and redeemed the pledge he made to construct the road.

They particularly reminded the governor of the electoral campaign promise he made to the community in the build up to the 2019 elections as well as a report that the road has been put in the 2025 budget of the state.

Chairman of Otu Alaafia Estate Landlords’ Association, Alhaji Ganiyu Are, said: “We want to make a passionate appeal to our amiable governor, His Excellency, Engineer ‘Seyi Makinde, to come to our rescue in Orisunmibare/Ita Faaji/Oganla/Opopin Community.

“It is true that the only road serving the community has never been tarred in the history of Ido Local Government Area and Oyo State.

“What we have been having since several years back is grading of the road which stopped about five years ago. But this has even turned out to be a curse for us as persistent heavy rainfalls over the years have washed away several layers of sand on the road.

“We have suffered several years of agonies, depravity and abandonment as successive administrations have turned deaf ears to our appeals to get the road constructed with asphalt.

“We thus heaved a big relief and we were grateful when we heard it on good authority that His Excellency, Governor Makinde, has listed our road in the 2025 Oyo State Budget and approved the construction of the road.

“Our dear governor, we are already in the second half of 2025. Kindly come to our aid and redeem your pledge to construct our road. We know that you are a man of honour and that you will remember us for good in our community.”

Also speaking, chairman of Gbogun Community Landlords’ Association, Mr Yomi Olaniyi, reminded Mr Governor of his promise, noting that the governor will surely get the road constructed.

“Your Excellency sir, we know that you are a talk-and-do governor. We have seen what you have been doing in the last six years in respect of road constructions and reconstructions in many parts of Ibadan and the entire state.

“Sir, we know that the task is enormous, even as the resources available to you is very meagre. But it takes an individual to effect a positive change in the lives of hundreds of thousands of a people.

“Several efforts have been made in the past to call the attention of our former governors to the deplorable state of the Orisunmibare/Ita Faaji/Oganla Road. But our appeals have fallen on deaf ears.

“Sir, the rains are here and we are just entering the heaviness of the rainfalls. Kindly save us from the agonies and nightmares of our impassable road, particularly at this time of the season,” he said.

In the same vein, Chairman of Orisunmibare Central Community Association, the umbrella body of the 22 communities in the area, Mr Olusola Awe, said the name of Governor Makinde will be written in gold if he can grant the residents their heart desire in respect of the road.

“Your Excellency sir, history has a way of recording human activities. You have already written your name in the positive side of history when we learnt that you have included our community road in the 2025 Budget for Oyo State.

“We were also aware that road construction engineers from the state Ministry of Works have variously visited our community for an on-the-spot assessment of the condition of our road.

“Going forward sir, your name will be written in gold, if you can take a further step and do what none of your predecessors has ever done. We will never forget you if our community and its residents can, for the first time, have a taste of good governance as exemplified by the Omituntun administration under your leadership.

“Sir, we shall forever be grateful to you, if you can remember us and save us from the perennial agonies engendered by the impassable situation of the Orisunmibare/Ita Faaji/Oganla/Opopin Road,” Mr Awe said.

June 12: Shina Peller Seeks Strengthened Democracy

As Nigeria observes June 12, the country’s Democracy Day, Honourable Shina Peller, a prominent Nigerian politician and Ayedero of Yorubaland, has called on all Nigerians, both at home and in the diaspora, to engage actively in the democratic process.

 

In his goodwill message to Nigerians, Peller emphasized June 12 as a time for introspection and joy—a moment to celebrate the triumphs and sacrifices made in the name of democracy, stressing that the day symbolizes a turning point in the nation’s political landscape.

 

Moreover, the Oke Ogun-born businessman cum politician noted that June 12 is not merely a date on the calendar, but that it embodies the aspirations and resilience of the Nigerian populace.

 

Peller called upon citizens to recommit themselves to the values that underpinned the fight for democracy, reminding all that while honouring the legacy of heroes like M.K.O. Abiola and others, it’s crucial to ensure their sacrifices were not in vain.

 

Furthermore, he encouraged active participation in political processes, constructive dialogue, and grassroots activism, adding that engaging in these activities is vital for building a stronger, more resilient democratic framework in Nigeria.

Democracy Day: Ex-Oyo APGA Governorship Candidate, Adeshina Calls for Nigeria’s Reformation

The 2023 governorship candidate of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in Oyo State, Comrade Adeshina Adewale Excel has appealed toNigerian government to reform bleeding democracy of the nation.

He lamented that Nigerians are suffering under this present democracy, which according to him needs urgent intervention of the government.

A statement by the ex-Oyo APGA gubernatorial candidate, who also double as the National President, Human Rights Report Commitment of Nigeria to celebrate this year’s democracy day said democracy should be a way to better life of Nigerians, but reverse has been the case in Nigeria.

Reacting to a Bill at the National Assembly mandating Nigerians to be voting during election, Adeshina stated that vote of Nigerians must count at election if truly government mean business.

He said, “True democracy celebration must based on transparency of June 12 election, we should look forward to June 12 elections as model for coming elections in Nigeria, people should not be beggars with the ballot in their hands.”

He however urged government at all level including well meaning Nigerian to always have interest of the citizens in heart.

“You cannot be doing well and still be decamping from one party to others party for automatic ticket and automatic winning. No automatic winning anymore because we will focus on electoral reform and voter orientation.

“Focus on doing well for Nigerians for them to reelect you, if you believe in automatic winning, it won’t work in 2027 because Nigerians will stand by their vote till end.”

Democracy Day: NNPP Chieftain Ajadi Calls on FG to Rejig Monetary Policies, Improve Infrastructure

A South West Chieftain of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, has lamented that despite uninterrupted 26 years of democratic rule in Nigeria, the country still struggles with infrastructure decay and a weakened currency.

Ajadi made the crucial call in a statement issued to mark this year’s edition of Democracy Day which falls on Thursday, 12th of June, 2025.

Ajadi called on President Bola Tinubu – led Federal Government to urgently formulate policies that will improve the Naira’s rating with other countries’ currency as well as taking a decisive action to improve infrastructure facilities in the country.

June 12 was picked as a Democracy Day by former President Muhammadu Buhari in honour of Late MKO Abiola, who won June 12, 1993 presidential election, which was aclaimed as the most free and fair presidential election in Nigeria but annulled by former head of military rule, Gen Ibrahim Babangida (Rtd).

According to Ajadi, a politician and business tycoon, the present economic situation in Nigeria has shown sadly that Nigeria has lost its status as the Giant of Africa.

Ajadi said democracy all over the World brings developments to the people but wondered why successive democratic governments in the country have made Nigeria worse than they met it.

He averred that the exchange rate of Naira to Ghana Cedis and CFA, currency of the eight independent states in West Africa which make up the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA; Union Économique et Monétaire Ouest Africaine) reflects the shambolic nature of Nigeria economy.

While expressing deep concern over the negative impacts of the dwindling value of the Naira on various sectors of the economy, he urged the federal government to swiftly address the issue to alleviate the hardships faced by the citizens.

The parlous state of the Naira, according to Ambassador Ajadi, has led to a surge in prices of commodities, saying it is effectively eroding the purchasing power of the citizens.

“As prices soar, the Nigerian people find themselves grappling with increased financial strain. From an entrepreneurial standpoint, sustaining production becomes a formidable challenge, prompting manufacturers to pass on additional costs to consumers”, he said.

Ajadi also called on the governments at all levels to improve infrastructure facilities in the country especially roads.

According to him, one of the infrastructure that needs urgent attention is the network of roads that link various states in Nigeria.

Ajadi also called on the Federal Government through the Ministry of Aviation to improve the deplorable state of Lagos International Airport.

He said Terminal 1 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos, has poor ventilation, non-functional air conditions and has thus become an uncomfortable waiting ground for both local and international passengers.

U.I College of Medicine Alumni Give Back to Alma Mater, Community

The Alumni of the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, Class of “85 have called on the relevant stakeholders including alumnus to rally round the government in its efforts to revamp the health sector.

It was submitted that the sector is being confronted with various challenges that makes it difficult for the general public to assess the basic medical facilities.

The medical experts who were in attendance at the Student Day and Legacy Sharing as part of the activities marking the 40th Anniversary and Re-union of the College of Medicine Class of “85 held at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan on Monday, argued that migration of Nigerian trained personnel abroad in search of greener pasture is taking its toll on the sector.

They added that aside the migration of the personnel, most of the hospitals could not boast of the necessary equipments that are needed for medical assignment  hence the reason people travel abroad for Medicare.

They, however, stated that in as much they cannot discourage the trained personnel from seeking greener pasture abroad, they should as well give back to the society with the provision of needed assistance to their alma mater.

The Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee and Chief Executive Officer of Tolu Hospital and Ibadan Central Hospital, Dr. Abib Olamitoye in a sideline interview with the newsmen said as Class of 85 they have decided not only to give back to the College but the society at Large

According to him, “We are Alumni members. We have come back, to give back to the coming generations, to find way to re-unite and make a better mark than we have made in the past to the College, to the students and to the community where we once lived as students.

On the state of health sector in the Country, he said” ‘I don’t want to be political but I can say that the decline is not limited to the medical profession.

“Nigeria has witnessed  tremendous fast pace in the absence of thorough planning which has led to crashing effect that has stalled the progress in all cadres of the economy which has made the Country a very bad example of a nation.

“Nigeria is a country that runs without a vision. A lot of people have perished for this lack of vision.

On the issue of the brain drain, he submitted, “People want better living condition. The origin of the brain drain is nothing but poor economy, poorly managed financial resources.

“When medical personnel that came to school and spent six years plus two extra years in housemanship and NYSC come out and find out that they cannot even raise a family, let alone send their children to good schools and they are needed elsewhere where they are able to have compensation for the years and pains they have had. I think there movement is legitimate.

Also, the keynote speaker, Tony Rapu, who doubles as the Chairman, Board of Trustees, Freedom Foundation admonished the students and other people in attendance to take advantage of the opportunities they have.

In his address titled: “Seasons of Life, Start Strong, Stay Steadfast, Shine Bright”, Rapu admonished students to note that there are three seasons in life.

According to him, “There are three seasons of life; morning, afternoon and evening. Each of this season requires a certain attitude, place a unique demand and a unique purpose for our lives.

“There are certain things you have to do in the morning, afternoon and evening of life. As students, in the morning, you ought to show the seed of life, discipline and empathy of character, hardwork and studies.”

In his address, the Provost, College of Medicine, Prof. T. O. Ogundiran lauded the contribution of the Class of 85 to the growth of the health sector in the Country and abroad.

He submitted that the set has produced notable leaders that have been of tremendous assistance to the College of Medicine.

Eid-el-Kabir: Aleshinloye Calls for Compassion, Generosity for Less Privileged

As Nigeria Muslims join their counterparts all over the world to mark the festival of Eid-el-kabir, An APC chieftain and grassroots politician, Prince Ayodeji Abass-Aleshinloye, MDII felicitates with the Muslim Community on the celebration of the eid-el-kabir.

In a Sallah Message on Thursday made available to journalists through his media office, Aleshinloye urged Nigerians to continue promoting peace, unity and understanding among all citizens.

“As we celebrate Eid-el-kabir, may the spirit of sacrifice, compassion, and gratitude guide us. I pray that the blessings of Allah continue to shine upon us. I commend the Muslim community for their devotion and resilience.”

The ex-Algon chairman in Oyo state called on the Muslim faithful to use the Eid-el-kabir celebrations to re-dedicate themselves to peace, security, friendship and practise the virtue of Islam as professed by Prophet Mohammad (SAW) and demonstrated in his sacrificial obedience to all the tenets of Islam.

The former Oluyole Local Government Chairman encouraged Moslems to embrace the spirit of empathy and charity by reaching out to the less privileged and people of other faiths during this festive season as a way of enhancing bonds of friendship and brotherhood that promote tolerance, peace and solidarity.

The deputy national chairman NALGON EMERITUS urged Nigerians to use the joyous occasion to pray for our leaders and the peace, progress and socio-economic development of our dear country.

“What is needed by all Nigerians is patience and full support for President Bola Tinubu regime to be able to accelerate the pace of progress and the desired comprehensive development of Nigeria.”

Eid-el-Adha: Embrace spirit of sacrifice, Unity, Senator Alli charges Nigerians

Senator Sharafadeen Alli (APC-Oyo South) has extended warm greetings to Muslims on the celebration of Eid-el-Adha, urging them to embrace the festival’s deeper message of sacrifice, compassion and national unity.

 

This is contained in a statement issued by his Media Office and made available to newsmen on Friday in Ibadan.

 

Senator Alli called on Nigerians to reflect on the timeless values demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim (AS), especially as the nation navigates through economic and social challenges.

 

He said that Eid-el-Adha goes beyond ritual sacrifices, stressing the need to uplift the less privileged, support one another, and rekindle a sense of patriotism and shared responsibility among citizens.

 

The lawmaker said that while insecurity and economic hardship test the nation’s resolve, Nigerians must unite across religious and ethnic lines to build a better future.

”Embrace the Essence of Eid-Al-Adha,” Peller Admonishes all on Salah Celebration

As Muslims around the world celebrate Eid-Al-Adha 2025, Hon. (Dr.) Shina Peller, the Ayedero of Yorubaland, has urged us all to embrace the essence of the momentous occasion. 

 

Hon. Peller said that it’s essential to reflect on the deeper meanings beneath the festive atmosphere, adding that the occasion is not just for celebration, but for service and compassion within our communities.

 

He added that at the heart of Eid-Al-Adha lies a remarkable story of faith, obedience, and love, reminding all that the celebration commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (AS), known as Abraham in Christianity, to sacrifice his son in obedience to God’s command.

Babcock Varsity Expels Student For Buying N100,000 Soap From Herbalist

Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State, has dismissed a student, Oladipupo Siwajuola, over what it described as “gross violation of university rules,” including involvement in fetish practices, drug peddling, impersonation, and dishonesty.

Siwajuola’s disappearance became a trending topic in early May 2025, after his mother took to social media alleging that the university failed in its duty of care.

In an official statement released on Wednesday, and signed by the university’s Director of Marketing and Communication, Dr. Joshua Suleiman, the university revealed that Siwajuola had deliberately exited the Ilishan-Remo-based campus on April 28, 2025, without authorisation, disguising himself in a hoodie and sneaking out through the university’s teaching hospital gate.

“His disappearance was neither accidental nor the result of negligence by the university.

“Rather, it was a deliberate act, laced with a series of misconducts that violate the Babcock University Student Handbook,” the statement read.

The institution disclosed that Siwajuola was returned to campus by his father on May 15, 2025, and was invited by the Security Services Department for a formal debrief.

In his voluntary written statement, which was later corroborated before the Disciplinary Committee, he reportedly confessed to several acts of misconduct.

“Among them was the purchase of a black soap from a traditional herbalist for N100,000, which contradicted his mother’s earlier claim that she had given it to him to treat a skin condition.

“Siwajuola, admitted that the soap was intended for ritual purposes, as part of a ‘Yahoo Yahoo Plus’ scheme, a slang term for internet fraud mixed with fetish practices.

“He revealed that he was engaging in fetish practices in an attempt to get rich quick.

“He also confessed to drug peddling, borrowing N500,000 from an online loan app to fund gambling, and impersonating another student to open a bank account,” the statement said.

The statement further noted that Siwajuola had sold his personal phone without authorisation and misled the buyer by claiming that his father had consented.

In contrast to his mother’s public claim that her son was found by his secondary school friends, the university revealed that it was Sodiq’s mother, the parent of a friend he stayed with in Lagos, who discovered his presence in their home and alerted his family after noticing the growing online controversy.

Following investigations, Babcock University stated that Siwajuola was found liable for multiple offences, including unauthorised exit from campus, possession and use of fetish materials, drug peddling, impersonation and dishonesty, unauthorised sale of personal property.

In line with its disciplinary policies and global best practices, the university said it had no choice but to dismiss Siwajuola with immediate effect.

“While we recognise the emotional weight of this decision, especially for the family involved, our foremost responsibility remains the safety and moral integrity of all students entrusted to our care,” Suleiman said.

The university also expressed displeasure over the “sensational and baseless accusations” made by the student’s mother on social media, accusing the institution of complicity in the boy’s disappearance.

“These claims were not only false but misleading.

“However, in view of the responsible conduct shown by the student’s father, the university will not pursue a libel case at this time,” the statement added.

As Governor Seyi Makinde clocks six years in office, conversations across Oyo State have turned to his performance, the state of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the future of governance beyond 2027.

From education, healthcare to security and Infrastructure, many agree that the Makinde years have left visible footprints across the state. In this interview, Honourable Adedeji Dhikrullahi Stanley Olajide, popularly known as ODIDIOMO, lends his voice to the discourse. The two term federal lawmaker represents Ibadan North-West/Ibadan South-West federal constituency of Oyo state at the National Assembly and currently serves as Chairman, House Committee on Digital, Information Communication Technology and Cybersecurity in the House of Representatives.

He speaks on the governor’s performance, the strength of the PDP in Oyo state and why he believes Governor Makinde’s quiet leadership style is worth emulating.

Governor Seyi Makinde is marking six years in office today May 29, 2025. As a PDP leader and lawmaker, how do you assess his journey so far

It has been an extremely impressive journey. I recall the early days in 2019, there were doubts everywhere. People said he lacked experience, has not been in public office before and all of that. But six years later, he has not only proven everyone wrong, he has established himself as one of the most visionary leaders Oyo State has produced. Let’s talk about education. That sector is critical in any government. Governor Seyi Makinde has performed excellently. From building and renovating schools to providing the necessary infrastructure and content for quality education, he has kept his promises. He has consistently paid the counterpart funds to access UBEC support. That is a silent achievement, but a huge one. On security, we have seen real reform. Gone are the days of daily garage wars and street violence. Amotekun is functioning well, the Park Management System has been restructured and there is a smooth working relationship with the federal security agencies, the police, NSCDC, DSS and others. As the Chief Security Officer of the state, he has done excellently well.

What about healthcare delivery

No ward or local government is left out. We now have functional medical centres across the state and they are well-equipped to serve the needs of our people. He didn’t make a lot of noise about it, but if you visit the facilities, you’ll be impressed. That campaign promise has been delivered too. In infrastructure and economic development, he has taken bold steps. The agricultural industrial parks being built across the zones will place Oyo on the map for agribusiness and value-chain development. Those parks will soon be hubs of job creation and economic empowerment.

Many say he doesn’t speak too often or play politics loudly. Do you agree?

That’s actually one of his strengths. He is a silent achiever. While some leaders make noise before acting, he allows his work to speak. He listens, he accepts responsibility when necessary, and he corrects course. That’s maturity. He has never allowed criticism to derail him; instead, he uses it to become better. His popularity is organic. The people feel the difference. His achievements are not limited to Ibadan alone, it cuts across all three senatorial districts. So, yes, he’s not noisy, but he is effective.

Let’s talk about road infrastructure. How would you rate that sector

Very high. He has connected rural communities to urban centres through quality roads. The inner roads in many areas are now being fixed. Go round the state, you’ll see solar powered streetlights lighting up communities. That has improved security and boosted nighttime commercial activity. And then there’s the Ibadan Circular Road, a project conceptualized by former Governor Rashidi Ladoja, but now being implemented by Governor Makinde. That road is changing the economic profile of every area it touches. It’s not just a road; it’s a legacy.

The Ibadan Airport upgrade is generating attention. What’s the significance

It is a visionary move. Right now, we might still have to travel through Lagos, but in a few months, Ibadan will become a major travel hub. Soon, if you want to travel to London, you’ll pass through Ibadan. That’s the future. I remember flying with the governor once and he was pointing out geographical zones and communities from the sky. That’s a leader who knows his terrain deeply and thoroughly. His engineering background shows in his logical approach to governance. Everything is strategic.

What is the current strength of the PDP in Oyo State? Any cracks or concerns

The PDP in Oyo State is strong and united. Governor Makinde’s leadership has helped keep the party people oriented and focused. Yes, politics always comes with its pressures and ambitions, but in Oyo, we are managing it maturely. The people have seen the difference. They know the opposition can’t offer what we have already delivered. Even in the face of criticism, our governor has led with grace and calmness. That’s why the party remains rooted at the grassroots.

Your personal message to Governor Seyi Makinde at six years

May Almighty Allah continue to strengthen you, sir. You’ve kept your promises. You’ve handled criticisms with wisdom. You’ve shown that leadership is not about words but action. You’ve turned challenges into achievements and proven that logic and compassion can go hand in hand. We are proud of you and we will continue to stand with you. Your legacy is secure and the people are solidly behind you. Thank you for being who you are, a servant-leader, a silent achiever and a governor for all.

Finally, what should the people of Oyo State expect in the remaining years of this administration

More impact, more vision, more delivery. I know the governor, he doesn’t rest on his oars. He’s already laying the foundation for what Oyo State should look like in 2030. Whether it’s in education, health, ICT, infrastructure or agriculture, he’s setting up systems that will outlive his administration. Oyo people should stay hopeful. The best is yet to come.

May 29: NNPP Chieftain, Ajadi Urges Political Office Holders to Demonstrate Democratic Ethics

As Nigeria marks 26 years of uninterrupted democratic rule today, Thursday, 29th May, 2025, a South West Chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, (NNPP), Amb. Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo has admonished political officer holders at all levels of governance in the country to use their good offices to showcase and demonstrate democratic process of governance.

Ajadi, while congratulating Nigerians for having the longest years of democratic rule since independence, said, with 26 years of continuous democratic rule, “we can no longer pretend that we are yet to master the democratic tenets.”

He equally reminded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration which clocked two years that one of its campaign promises during the 2023 elections is constant electricity supply.

Ajadi said up till today, that promise has not been fulfilled as people still experience low and in most cases no supply of electricity.

He urged government to ensure steady supply of electricity, saying this is what can attract investors to the country.

Ajadi expressed saddness that the people at the helm of affairs in the country are still tied to the system of military dictatorship when they were actually elected by the electorate through the ballot papers at elections.

The NNPP Chieftain urged politicians to use the 26th democracy anniversary to remember that Nigeria is no more under military dictatorship and the ethics of democracy which places power in the hands of the people should be respected.

According to the statement, “I rejoice with all Nigerians as we celebrate 26 years of uninterrupted democratic rule in the country. The period between 1999 and today is the longest period of uninterrupted democratic rule since our country’s independence in 1960.

“It is sad however that though in every democracy, people are placed first, as their interest matters and they are the pillars upon which the government rest, but in Nigeria our political leaders are still running the government like a military system. They most times suppress people’s will. This is not in tune with democracy.

“Let me use this occasion to also remind President Tinubu’s administration that one of its promises while campaigning is provision of regular supply of electricity but two years after people are still suffering from epileptic supply of electricity.

“Let me warn the government to fulfill its promise on electricity and should remember that non – fulfilment of the promise could work against the All Progressives Congress, (APC) in the 2027 election.

“The people at the helm of affairs of the nation should use their good offices to demonstrate, showcase and practice democratic process of government instead of practising military system of government in a democracy.

“As we celebrate today, let’s remember what democracy stands for and adhere to its tenets. Political leaders at the Federal, State and Local Governments levels should provide dividends of democracy to the people who elected them into office. They should put the interest of the masses in the frontline of governance.

“They should also at all times ensure that people’s lives and properties are safe and the masses are protected from avoidable deaths”.
