Group lauds Makinde over appointment of new Environment Commissioner

A socio-cultural group, Oyo Nexus Club on Tuesday lauded Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde over the appointment of a legal icon, Dr. Idowu Oyeleke as the new Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources.

The group in a statement signed by its President and Secretary, Mr Muideen Olatunji and Yakub Adekunle, respectively, described Oyeleke as an illustrious son of ancient city of Oyo and esteemed member of their club.

Describing the appointment of Oyeleke as laudable and great honour to the people of Oyo Town, the group said it would afford its member to serve the government of Oyo State and its people meritorously in ridding the state of filth.

While wishing the governor more wisdom and God’s guidance, the group tasked the new Commissioner to justify the confidence reposed in him to serve and carve a niche for himself.

Indeed, for over 34 years now, Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Oyo has been blessed with one of the best administrators, who undoubtedly has taken administrative job with much passion. He indeed gave his best in the services of the College. No wonder, God Almighty has shown him mercy.

An accomplished technocrat, administrator, patriot and public servant, Alh. Teslim Ladimeji Adediran, J.P owes his birth of August 19, 1955 to his late parents, Alhaji and Mama Kadiri Ayoola Adediran of Alli Compound, Atingisi Quarters, Atiba Local Government, Oyo, Oyo State of blessed memory who never spared the rod to, so to say, spoil the boy, even up to their demise as responsible parents. He started his journey in education in 1961 at L. A. Isale Oyo and finished his primary education in 1967. He commenced and successfully completed his secondary education at Oranyan Grammar School, Oyo, Oyo state in 1974 and proceeded to the Federal School of Arts and Science, Sokoto between 1976-1978 for his Advanced Level Certificate where he was the best all-round student of the graduating set of 1978.

In his quest for a University degree, Teslim Ladimeji Adediran gained admission to the University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos where he bagged a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mass Communication (Second Class Honours Upper Division) in 1982. He observed the one-year mandatory NYSC programme in Kano State between 1982 and 1983. In 1996, he moved to the University of Ibadan, Ibadan where he wrapped up his higher educational pursuits with a Master’s Degree in Communication Arts in 1997. His constant journey to self-actualization set him on a path to knowledge acquisition which led him to seeking out a Certificate in Computer and Internet Training from the Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo in October, 2006.

His belief in the adage that one cannot give what one does not have greatly impacted his pursuit of knowledge and led him on the path of teaching, where he was able to transfer the knowledge gained over the years to students who shared the same curiosity and thirst for learning in their respective fields of study. He started his working career with the Kwara State Schools Management Board in December, 1983 as Master II and transferred his service to the Oyo State Central Schools Board as Master I between September, 1985 and January, 1986.

Teslim Ladimeji Adediran took up an appointment as Administrative Officer II with the former Oyo State College of Education, Oyo (Now Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Oyo) on February 1, 1986. Upon his assumption of duty, he was deployed to the School of Education as School Officer (February, 1986-December, 1987) and later, School of Science (January, 1988-September, 1989). From 1986, he rose through the ranks, having worked in every sector of the College before reaching his zenith as the College Registrar.

It is instructive to place on record that our man, T. L Adediran satisfactorily worked as Students’ Affairs Officer (October, 1989-August, 1992); Head of Administration, NCE Sandwich Programmes Directorate (September, 1992-October, 1994); Head of Public Relations Division (November, 1994-May, 1999); Head of Governing Council Affairs Division (June, 1999-January, 2003); Deputy Registrar/Assistant Director, Directorate of College Sandwich Programmes (January, 2003-December, 2005). While on Sabbatical appointment at the Federal College of Education, (Special), Oyo, he was the Head, Admissions and Academic Affairs Division (January 1- December 31, 2006). He later resumed as Deputy Registrar/Establishments (Personnel) (December, 2007-August, 2009); Overseer of the Registry Department (March 2009-August 2, 2009), Head of Registry, Lanlate Campus, Emmanuel Alayande College of Education (August, 2009-March, 2013).

Between March 28, 2013 and May 15, 2014, he served as the College Stand-In/Acting Registrar. On 16 May, 2014, in dedication to his Country and State, Alh. Teslim Ladimeji Adediran, J.P was graciously appointed as the substantive Registrar, Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Oyo by the Oyo State Government. He was later re-appointed on 16 May, 2018- a position he held with great dedication, enthusiasm and loyalty, to the glory of Almighty God, his Provost, Dr. Rasak Adetunji Adefabi, fien, fcai, J.P and the highly supportive members of the College Management and administrative machinery till 19 August, 2020. To the glory of Almighty God, it is on record that Alh. Teslim Ladimeji Adediran is the first Registrar to have completed his tenure without any rancour. Unto God alone be all the glory!

In his capacity as the College Chief Administrative Officer, his contributions were unrivaled as he facilitated the establishment of the Legal and the Alumni Relations Units, thereby, expanding the Registry Department. He facilitated and ensured the clearance of backlog of NCE Certificates for NCE graduates of the College from 1994 to date ditto with the 100% accreditation statuses for both NCE and Full-Time Degree Programmes. In rising to the challenge of Self Sustainability of Tertiary Institutions as propounded by the Oyo State Government, it is on record that his tenure as Registrar witnessed the establishment of the following solid revenue generating ventures: Table Water Production Business, Functional Bakery, Agricultural Venture, EACOED Nursery and Primary School

He was the Secretary to the Governing Council, Academic Board and Congregation. This made him automatic member/Secretary of the following key Council Committees: The Finance and General Purposes Committee, The College Tenders Board, College Ventures Board, Disciplinary and Appeals Committee, Member, Endowment Fund Committee, Works & Physical Development Committee, Appointments and Promotions Committee (Academic Staff), Appointments and Promotion Committee (Administrative/Professional/Technical Staff), Member, Committee on EACOED Model High School among many other committees.

T. L Adediran, a thorough bred administrator attended several conferences/seminars both home and abroad. His professional affiliations include: Associate Member, Nigerian Institute of Management (AMNIM), Member, Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (MNIPR), Member, Nigerian Institute of Management (MNIM), Member, Association of University Administrators (United Kingdom), Fellow, Chartered Administrative Institute (FCAI)

Alh. Teslim Ladimeji Adediran, a man of many parts, was Health Officer while in Primary Six and Food Prefect in his final year in Oranyan Grammar School, Oyo. He also served as Chairman, Oyo State Chapter of NASFAT Society; Chairman, Oyo Branch of NASFAT Society; Member, Board of Governors, Ansar- Ud-Deen Grammar School, Oyo; Member, University of Lagos Alumni Association, Oyo Branch; Member, Bode Thomas Housing Estate Community Development Association; Member, Bee-Keepers’ Association of Nigeria, Atiba Local Government Area Chapter and Member, Executive Committee of Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, Oyo Branch. Presently, he is the State Secretary of the Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, Oyo State Council. He enjoyed the privilege of being appointed as a Justice of the Peace by former Governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi in recognition of his sterling qualities on Tuesday, 17 August, 2017.

His versatility and dedication to his craft have enabled him to continuously thrive in his quest for professional excellence as well as service to the Almighty and humanity. His passion for excellence excels him in any disposition he finds himself either in public or private service, in addition to community service where he has been opportuned to play some enviable leadership roles to the satisfaction of his mentors.

Ladimeji is happily married and he is blessed by God’s grace with successful children and fine grandchildren.

•Recollects Day A Fan Nearly Killed Her Because Of Excitement

Veteran Yoruba actress Madam Grace Owoola Oyin-Adejobi, popularly called Iya Osogbo has said that she would never venture into the business of acting again in her life.

In addition, she also spoke for the first time about the day an excited fan nearly ran her into a gutter with her jeep vehicle on her way to the office of one of her children in Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State.

She said this experience has remained indelible in her memory because her thought was that the day was going to be her last on planet earth, except in the end it did not turn out as she feared initially.

“The fan eventually came down from her car to let me know that she merely wanted to exchange greetings with me. She later enveloped ten thousand naira and dashed me.”

Iya Osogbo who was the wife of the late versatile actor in the Yoruba genre, Chief Oyin Adejobi made these revelations while featuring on a radio magazine programme on Space 90.1fm, Parrot Xtra Hour on Radio anchored by Olayinka Agboola in Ibadan.

The veteran actress said she started her acting career some 67 years ago and she also mentioned that she had already made her name before she acted in the film titled “Eran Iya Osogbo” thereby correcting the erroneous belief her admirers had held before now.
She said that unlike now when acting has become not only the in-thing and profitable, in her time, parents frowned at people, especially women who ventured into the profession as they were generally regarded as unserious types and therefore wayward.

Madam Oyin-Adejobi expressed her displeasure over the near-nudity being practiced by actresses in Nigeria, advising them not to be deceived by the pleasures of the world but to believe that they can succeed through dint of hard work and the grace of God.
On how she met her late husband, Oyin Adejobi who died in the year 2000, she said that both of them went to the same school and were also living on the same street, saying that right from the start of his career, he was never under a boss.

She said that apart from the death of her husband, the lowest point for her life was when her fourth child, a female died “it took me a long time to recover from that experience”, she offered.

However, her happiest moment was when she gave birth to her first child, a boy in 1954.
Iya Osogbo went further to say that whenever their theater group went to stage plays or was showing a film in a cinema house, she was the one who used to sell ticket unmindful of what some miscreants might do, “as I know that they all love me adding that it was at Jebba that we raised the gate fee of our shows to twenty Kobo which had a lot of value unlike what obtains nowadays where the value of money is nothing to write home about”.

She used the opportunity to admonish younger generation of Nigerians on the need to work hard and be focused.

Her words “I got to attain this age because of God’s mercy. In addition, the Almighty also gave me the wisdom of preserving my body and being moderate in all I have been doing. Our youths should emulate this too. They should learn to be God fearing too.”

Iya Osogbo, who featured prominently in productions like Orogun Adedigba, Kuye, Kootu Ashipa and others will officially turn 90 on Sunday. She equally announced that there will be no formal event to mark the occasion.

She added “All my admirers including colleagues and family members have agreed to postpone whatever plan they have to celebrate my 90th birthday because we must obey NCDC’s COVID-19 prevention rules.”

As part of ongoing efforts to ensure a true reconciliation within the Oyo State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Teslim Folari, on Tuesday, held a closed-door meeting with the immediate past Minister of Communications, Barrister Adebayo Shittu; ex Commissioner for Environment under late former Governor Abiola Ajimobi, Barrister Lowo Obisesan and other members of the party.

The Pacesetter News  understands the meeting was held in Mokola-Ibadan office of the former Minister.

Details of the meeting are still sketchy as at the time of filing this report.

EACOED GOVERNING COUNCIL APPOINTS OLUBUNMI ASUNMO AS ACTING REGISTRAR; RATIFIES APPOINTMENT OF EMMANUEL ADEGOKE AS ACTING BURSAR

The 14th Governing Council of Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Oyo under the Chairmanship of Professor Mathew Odedokun, has approved the appointment of Mrs. Olubunmi Siju Asunmo (Nee Babalola) as the College Acting Registrar.

According to a special release issued by the Registrar/Secretary to Council, Alh. T. L. Adediran J.P, the appointment will take effect from Thursday, 20 August, 2020 when the incumbent Registrar, would have retired from service.

Mrs. Olubunmi Siju Asunmo, MNIM, FIPAN, was born on August 15, 1964. She joined the services of Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Oyo, then known as St. Andrew’s College of Education, Oyo on January 1, 1990 as Administrative Officer II. She attended Iwo Grammar School, Iwo between 1977 and 1981 for her Secondary School Education and Baptist High School, Iwo between 1981 and 1983 for her Higher School Certificate programme. She, thereafter, proceeded to the University of Ibadan, Ibadan where she bagged her B. Ed. in Educational Management and Religious Studies in 1987. She had her compulsory one year NYSC between 1987-1988 at Ojodu Grammar School, Ikeja, Lagos State and later caps her academics up with M.Ed. Educational Management in 1999 from the same Premier University. Mrs. Olubunmi Asunmo also has a Diploma in Computer-Data Processing and Management from the Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo in 2008.

The Acting Registrar – Designate according to the release has demonstrated early enough, her potentials and competence as an administrative officer. Mrs. Olubunmi S. Asunmo, who rose through the ranks to the post of Deputy Registrar on October 1, 2005 had served in virtually all the Divisions of the Registry Department in the College. These include the Registrar’s Office, School Office, Academic Affairs Division, Council Affairs Unit, Pension and Gratuity, Establishment Division when both Senior and Junior Establishments were together. She had equally served as the Assistant Director Admin.(Sandwich) at the College Directorate of Degree and Sandwich Programmes. Mrs. O. S. Asunmo who has served in many College Committees and Panels has attended various seminars and conferences both locally and internationally. She is happily married with children.

In a related development, the Governing Council, having been briefed about the events leading to the appointment of the Acting Bursar, Mr. Emmanuel Oluninyo Adegoke has ratified his appointment as Acting Bursar with retroactive effect from July 2, 2020 in compliance with the Laws of the College.

Mr. Emmanuel Oluninyo Adegoke was born on September 9, 1966. He attended Adekile Goodwill Grammar School, Ibadan where he graduated in 1981. He proceeded to The Polytechnic, Ibadan for both his Ordinary and Higher National Diploma Certificates and graduated in 1985 and 1996 respectively. A goal getter, Emmanuel Oluninyo Adegoke obtained a Certificate in Computer Education at Ladun Institute of Computer Education, Ibadan in 1995 while participating in the mandatory one year NYSC programme before capping it with a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Calabar in 2006. Professionally, Adegoke proceeded to the Nigerian College of Accountancy where he became Certified with ANAN in 2010.

Having worked in some private establishments, Emmanuel Oluninyo Adegoke officially joined the service of St. Andrew’s College of Education, Oyo on February 9, 1998 as an Accountant II Officer. He rose through the ranks to become a Chief Accountant having worked in every section of the Bursary.
He was formerly Head, Reconciliation Unit; Head, Treasury/Cash Unit; Head, Students Accounts; Head, Final Accounts; Assistant Director (Finance), Full-Time Degree until his appointment as the College Acting Bursar.

Meanwhile, the outgoing Registrar and Secretary to Council, while congratulating the two Acting Principal Officers on behalf of the Chairman and members of Council, the Provost, Dr. Rasak A. Adefabi, FIEN, FCAI, J.P, other members of Management, staff and students, “urged members of College community to ensure their total cooperation with the new appointees in their quest to achieve the best for the College and actualize its vision and mission statements”, the release added.

The Provost and Chief Executive of the College, Dr. Rasak A. Adefabi, FIEN, FCAI, J.P in his comment, shortly after the Council meeting said “I heartily congratulate and formally welcome the duo of the Acting Registrar and Acting Bursar into the College Management fold. I am highly optimistic that they shall both bring their wealth of experience to bear on the joint tasks of moving the College to greater heights. I therefore call on all and sundry to extend their hands of fellowship to them in order to guarantee their success and progress of the College” he concluded.

Makinde gives marching orders on escaped Ibadan killer suspect

The Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, on Tuesday, gave marching orders to security operatives to ensure the re-arrest of Sunday Shodipe, the notorious suspect, alleged to be involved in the series of murders in Akinyele, who escaped from from police custody in Ibadan, on Saturday.

The governor, who was represented by the Special Adviser on Security, COMPOL Fatai Owoseni (rtd), at a Town Hall meeting held at Akinyele Local Government, said the re-arrest of the alleged mastermind of at least six ritual killings in Ibadan, must be made a top priority of security operatives.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, indicated that Governor Makinde reiterated that his administration places premium on security of lives and properties in the state, urging the residents of the area to remain calm and not take laws into their hands.

The governor, who maintained that he shared the pains of the people of Akinyele, over the incessant killings in the local government, said the people must continue to cooperate with law enforcement officials to lawfully bring about an end to the menace in the area.

He said: “All of us have followed the incidents in Akinyele; the arrest of the principal suspect in the case and, of course, his escape from custody, after being arraigned in court.

“We are here today in this Town Hall meeting and Governor Makinde has directed that we should let the people in the community know that as governor, he shares their pain; and as people of Oyo State, we share in the pain; and what has happened is condemnable and unacceptable

“Be that as it may, the governor also wants us to dialogue with the people, with a view to ensuring that in as much as security challenges can affect economic development, so also are barbaric actions like taking laws into people’s hands.

“Yes, the people have the right, having suffered such pains, to come out to protest. But when we do our protest, we should do it in a way that will not continue to destroy property of people.

“Because the properties of people we are destroying could also be members of our family. Everyone knows that what has happened is bad but for every 12 disciples of Jesus Christ, you see a Judas Iscariot.

“So, His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, apart from being pained, sharing in the pains of the people and being in solidarity with them, has also ensured that this gets to the hearing of the top echelon of the police, that is the Inspector General of Police.

“The governor and IGP have given the marching order to the commissioner of police and all his officers in Oyo State to work with the people in the community, so as to ensure that the suspect is rearrested; and ensure that all those cases are investigated to a logical conclusion.

The governor added that the police would need the cooperation of the people to be able to succeed in putting an end to the incessant killings and crime in the community, saying: “The last one was preventable if that suspect had not escape.

“Just like the state gave the security agencies the wherewithal and tools to apprehend that suspect in the first case, so also is the governor deploying whatever is necessary and the enablement that will make them succeed. And they must work in partnership with the members of the community in the spirit of community policing.

“So, we have come here to pass this message to our people here. They have also given their commitment to work together with the police to make sure the suspect is re-arrested, investigated and prosecuted,” the governor said.

The Town Hall meeting was attended by government functionaries and community leaders including Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Taiwo Adisa; Alakinyele of Akinyele, Oba James Odeniran; Akinyele Local Government chairman, Hon. Taoheed Adedigba, and his counterpart at the Akinyele South LCDA, Hon. Kazeem Adekunle Akinyele.

Others were Hon. Muyiwa Ogunrinde, the chairman of Akinyele East LCDA; community leaders, representatives  of religious groups and vigilante groups, among others.

Makinde Inspects Awotan Dump Site, As Residents Hail Gov Over Relief From Years Of Enduring Air Pollution

Awotan-Apete residents have expressed their appreciation to governor Seyi Makinde for giving communities around the area a new lease of life by ending the air pollution which has for over fifteen years permeated the entire Awotan area over persistent unpleasant wastes smells.

One of the community leaders who could not contained his excitement at the sight of governor Makinde screamed the governor’s name in appreciation of his giant strides towards improving the quality of lives of Oyo state residents stressing that the state has never had it so good in terms of giving dividend of democracy back to the masses.

The governor who arrived the dump site in on an unscheduled inspection visit in company of top officials from the ministry of environment and natural resources led by the ministry’s permanent secretary to assess the level of work done on the ongoing projects called for expedited action.

The Special Assistant on Energy to governor Seyi Makinde, Hon Saka Moshood Olawale, who was already at the dump site for inspection before the governor arrived expressed optimism with the economic might the site will bring to the economy of the state when completed.

Speaking with Sunrise Bulletin shortly after the governor departed, Engr Olawale explained that Oyo state is committed to generating alternative power in order to provide more constant and regular electricity power supply to the entire state.

He said that his inspection of the dump site was key part of his weeklong schedule to get progress report from on the spot assessment of such dump sites which he described as vital source of renewable energy for the state adding that several investors have expressed interests in keying into governor Makinde’s ‘waste to wealth agenda.

The Special Assistant on Energy, however assured that the governor’s commitment to bringing his economic blueprint to fruition remained unwavering stressing that even though COVID-19 has done great damage to the state economy, governor Makinde remain resolute to achieving his laudable plans for the state within reasonable time.

NUJ storms Oyo Police command over disappearance of killer suspect, as CP unveils 2 officers

Some members of the Oyo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on Monday stormed the headquarters of the State Police Command to demand explanation on why an alleged killer suspect escaped from their custody.

Led by their Chairman, Ademola Babalola, the journalists described the news of the escape of Sunday Shodipe, a suspect who was arrested in connection with killings of Barakat Bello; Azeezat Shomuyiwa, and five year-old baby, identified as Mujeeb, could flee the station without internal conspiracy of suspected bad eggs in the police.

The CP, Nwachukwu Enwonwu who welcomed Babalola and his team to his office, disclosed that an Inspector and one other officer, who he failed to reveal their identities have been arrested and are currently undergoing orderly room trial.

He said the proceedings for their involvement had started on Monday morning, assuring the press and the general public that there would be no cover up.

The escape of the suspect has attracted several reactions and condemnations from many citizens of the state.

Enwonwu, during the meeting with Oyo NUJ, assured people of Oyo State the police would do everything to ensure the re-arrest of the suspect. “We will so everything to ensure that Oyo state is crime free” he said.

Babalola earlier in his remarks told the Police Commissioner that he and other journalists were disturbed with the news of the escape of the suspect.

He urged the Commissioner to ensure that his men perform their duties in line with the laid down rules and regulations.

He said, “We are disturbed with the news of the escape of Sunday Shodipe. That is why we have to come here. Police custody should be the safest place to keep a suspect in Nigeria”.

BREAKING: Nigeria to Resume International Flights On August 29

Nigeria will resume international flight operations on August 29, the Federal Government has announced.

The Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, made the announcement on Monday in Abuja at the briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19.

He explained that the process for the resumption of international flights in the country would be similar to that of the domestic flight resumption.

According to the minister, the resumption will commence on Saturday next week at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

He thanked Nigerians for their patience while the ban on international flights was enforced and gave an assurance that the protocols and procedures for resumption would be announced in due course.

Former governor of Oyo State, Otunba Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala has described those opposing him as leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State as political neophytes and non-starters.

The Pacesetter News understands that some party chieftains have consistently faulted the emergence of Alao-Akala as the APC reconciliation committee in Oyo State. They described him as a relatively new member of the party.

The opposition against his appointment as the chairman of the committee predates the death of former Governor Abiola Ajimobi, who was the acting National Chairman of the party.

The former Governor while reacting to the criticism against him, said that those purveying the news are political neophytes and non-startera.

In his words, “I have read and heard comments by some politicians about the leadership of the party, after the untimely death of former Governor Abiola Ajimobi, and I am not ready to join issues with them because they lack the political experience and exposure to understand that people command leadership and not demand it.

“The purveyors of the rumour, to say the least, are political neophytes and non-starters. I have not told nor begged anybody that I want to lead the party. The leadership of the party would emerge naturally.

“Those people are just privileged because they joined the party before me, not because they know what leadership is all about.

“By the special grace of God, I have been whatever I had prayed to be in this state. I have paid my dues as a politician of note. Those running their mouths on party leadership are non-starters.

“What is uppermost in my mind now is to take the party out of the woods by making sure that peace and genuine reconciliation is achieved in the party ahead of future elections.”

BREAKING: Tribunal Nullifies Bayelsa Governorship Election

The Bayelsa Governorship Election Tribunal on Monday nullified the election of Governor Douye Diri.

The Tribunal also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to order a fresh election within 90 days.

The verdict follows the petition by the Advanced Nigeria Democratic Party (ANDP) challenging the victory of Governor Diri in the November 19 governorship election.

The ANDP claimed that the party was unlawfully excluded from the election.

In a split judgement of two-one, the three-man panel ruled that INEC does not have the power to disqualify any candidate for an election.

INEC, in its argument, said that the party’s Deputy Governorship candidate was 34-year-old as at the time of nomination and therefore did not qualify to contest the election.

ANDP told Justice Yunusa Musa, who is delivered the lead judgment that its initial Deputy Governorship Candidate, David Esinkuma was duly substituted by the Party within the allowed time frame, following the notification from INEC that he’s under-age.

Justice Musa in his response said that INEC has no power to disqualify any candidate and insists that the petition of the ANDP stands.

He also added that only a court has the power to disqualify any candidate for any election and that the petition was filed within 21 days, which is the stipulated time for petitions to be filed.

Justice Musa described the action of INEC to exclude the ANDP from the Bayelsa Governorship Election as illegal.

The Oyo State Branch of the Accord Party of Nigeria has promised to ensure that only credible people will represent the party in the 2023 general elections.

Addressing journalists in Ibadan on Sunday, the State Secretary of the party, Mogaji Sunday Igbinsola said all hands are on deck to ensure that Oyo State is represented at the National Assembly by people of impeccable characters.

“For instance, the people from Ibadan South East/North East Federal Constituency have been yawning for good representation that will translate to development in their areas since the completion of the tenure of Honourable Adebukola Abiola Ajaja, who represented the constituency between 2011-15 at the federal house of representatives, National Assembly.

Igbinsola stated further that all hands are on deck to restrategize and reposition the party in the state to maintain its position as the only party that put the interest of the masses first, with good vision

“The leadership of our party, from Honourable Ajaja, the state chairman, Hon. Muda Ogunsola, state executives and elders are working tirelessly to ensure that the party take up the responsibility of alleviating the suffering of the masses by providing smooth platform for people with impeccable characters to contest elections in 2023.

“This is the only way to bring the dividend of democracy to the masses. Moreso, politicians have failed the masses with their style of godfatherism, oppressions, lack of vision and direction, no blueprints or workable agendas. Their shortcomings have brought on us, economic hardship and insecurity,”

The Accord party through its leadership also mourned the sudden death of the party’s loyalist and member from Ibadan South East local government, Mr Adedapo Adesina Adeoye who passed away on 13th of July 2020.

Mogaji Igbinsola while sending a condolence message to the family of Late Adedapo Adeoye in Ibadan, also consoled Hon. Emmanuel Olanrewaju Adewumi (Ogefon) over the death of his dependable associate, late Adedapo Adeoye who worked assiduously in 2015 to secure the party ticket to Federal house of Representative for Ogefon.

“Definitely, Hon Olanrewaju Emmanuel (Ogefon) will no doubt feel the painful exit of late Adedapo Adeoye as Ogefon is relaunching his ambition to yield to the call of the people of Ibadan South East/North East Federal Constituency for a better representation at the National Assembly come 2023,” Igbinsola lamented.

“Let me also use the opportunity to appeal to the good people of the state not to relax in abiding by the precautionary measures and other useful instructions and information made available by the government to safe and prevent us against the attack of Covid19 pandemic. God Almighty will protect us all from the deadly virus in Nigeria, Oneness and Progress,” Mogaji Sunday Igbinsola prayed.

Odo-Ona-Elewe Road: Hon. Sadipe Threatens Legal Action Against Overzealous Oriyomi Hamzat and Double A; Seeks Makinde’s Urgent Intervention

The federal lawmaker representing Oluyole federal Constituency, Hon. Tolulope Akande-Sadipe, has drawn the attention of Governor Seyi Makinde  to the deplorable condition of Oyo State Road- Odo-Ona/Elewe. She also threatened to take legal against two Ibadan-based radio presenters – Mr. Oriyomi Hamzat and Mr. Abiodun Adewole ‘Double A’, for their overzealous, unethical and unprofessional journalism.

Sadipe made the statement during a meeting with residents of Odo-Ona Elewe-Idi-iroko-Olugbemi-Adewole road, the officials of Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) and other stakeholders, on the deplorable condition of the road.

During the meeting, Hon. Akande-Sadipe detailed all the actions she had taken to get FERMA to address the complaints on the length, scope and quality of the rehabilitation work.

She provided some historical background on her efforts prior to the 2019 election whilst she was the Special Assistant Projects and BIP to former Governor Senator Abiola Ajimobi.

 

Hon. Akande-Sadipe who is also the Chairman, House Committee on Diaspora, pointed out that, in the latter part of year 2018, Governor Abiola Ajimobi had given a written approval for the required repairs of the road and three other roads within Oluyole Federal Constituency, adding that she personally brought the issue of the dilapidated condition of the road to the attention of the Governor.

“On resumption at the National Assembly I discovered that the road was listed as a 2019 capital project and announced the commencement of the repair work and here we are today all dissatisfied with the work delivered”, she said.

She said that the road, which serves as a major economic access point linking the state to other South west states, like Ogun and Lagos, is near complete collapse.

“The poor road condition posed a serious challenge to residents of the area, damaging their vehicles and threatening their sources of livelihood. It has also endangered the evacuation of farm produce from the area”, she said.

Akande-Sadipe therefore reiterated her commitment to work with both the State and Federal governments to bring succour to the community, by ensuring that the road is adequately rehabilitated with proper drainages.

Meanwhile, Hon. Akande-Sadipe has admonished broadcasters and journalists to practice professionalism at its best and ensure they make proper findings, so as not to mislead listeners.

She called out Abiodun Adewole of Splash FM/Lagelu F.M, who was at the venue, for intentionally misrepresenting her in spite of her explanation that she was bereaved a few days prior to when he called, with the demise of her blood brother and therefore could not appear on his weekly programme. Akande-Sadipe added that she had forwarded written documentary evidence on actions taken by her, to address the concerns raised by the community to him.

She also advised Ibadan based broadcaster, Oriyomi Hamzat to practice responsible journalism as his unguarded and false statements only aggravated the situation and should he continue, he would leave her no choice but to consider legal action against his lack of journalistic ethics.

She queried why a self-acclaimed broadcaster like Oriyomi Hamzat would choose not to efficiently and responsibly carry out the due care of his profession by conducting proper investigative journalism, before making unfounded statements about her on air. “A simple trip to the FERMA’s office or a phone call to me would have cleared the air and given him an accurate storyline rather than the false sensationalism path he towed”.

Speaking, the Director, FERMA, Oyo State, Engineer Babatunde Ige apologized for commenting in error on radio programme, that Hon. Akande-Sadipe had not written a complaint letter as she earlier stated.

He said she had written to him requesting detailed information on the scope, length and specifications of the road works, but unfortunately his staff had not informed him.

In his response, the Chairman, Isokan Community, Mr. Olatunde Akadiri thanked Hon. Tolulope Akande-Sadipe for her commitment, loyalty and support to the Constituency she represents, assuring her of their prayers and consistent backing.

Present at the meeting were Baales, Executives of Community Associations within the vicinity of Odo-Ona Elewe Idi-iroko-Olugbemi-Adewole Road.

She was also joined at the meeting by Chairman ALGON, Hon. Abass Aleshinloye; Pa Alamu; Oluyole APC Leader, Alh. Ashake Adebiyi; APC Woman Leader Oluyole, Alh. Ladoja; APC Oluyole Youth Leader, Hon. Gbolagade, and other APC Party members. Also present at the meeting was Engineer Ige Babatunde, the Director of FERMA, Oyo State and the project Engineer, Engr. Balogun.

MURIC Lauds Oyo TESCOM Boss for Clarifying Controversial CBT Questions

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has lauded the Executive Chairman of the Oyo State Teaching Service Commission, Pastor Akinade Alamu, for giving reasons why Muslims who took its Computer-Based Test for employment were given Christian questions.

The clarification is coming after MURIC alleged that Oyo State TESCOM had Christianised the CBT test held on August 11, 2020. The Islamic human rights association made the allegation on August 14.

But in a swift reaction, Alamu issued a press statement in which he explained that the incident was not deliberate. He blamed the development on computer technicalities, adding that some Christian candidates were also given questions on Islamic knowledge.

The statement was signed by the TESCOM Permanent Secretary, Grace Olabisi Oderinde.

MURIC on Sunday in a statement by its Director, Prof. Ishaq Akintola, lauded the Executive Chairman of TESCOM for his exemplary behaviour. MURIC thanked Alamu for addressing the core issue raised by the human rights association.

Part of the statement reads:

Akintola said: “Pastor Akinade comes across as the type of leader we need in this country. Nigeria needs a leader who is sensitive to the feelings of the people. We need a leader who will not ignore complaints but who will confront them frontally. The solution offered by Oyo TESCOM to our complaint may not be perfect, but nobody can fault the military dispatch with which it was addressed. We thank Pastor Akinade Alamu for displaying high level maturity.

“Instead of abusing or threatening us, instead of hiring a fiction story writer or fraudulently forming a fictitious 24-hour ‘Islamic’ organisation to start a dirty fight (just what some have done to hide their glaring oppression of Muslims), Pastor Akinade Alamu studied our grievance and took time to come up with a panacea. He set aside religious differences. He addressed the message and not the messenger. His language was refined, civil, diplomatic and parliamentarian. This is really commendable.

“Here is a big lesson for the governors of Ogun, Oyo, Ondo and Ekiti whose reactions to our criticisms have been undemocratic and nonconventional. The case of Oyo TESCOM and MURIC has proved that propaganda is not public relations. Leaders can stoop to conquer. Those in charge of public relations in public or private organisations must know this. Image makers must learn to respect the other side. Grandstanding and name-calling can only lead to the escalation of the crisis.

“MURIC will remain faithful to its motto, ‘Dialogue, Not Violence’. We are open to discussions before, during or after opening an issue. We are not rigid. Neither are we extremists. It is only our dectractors who want to give us a bad name. We will continue to peacefully coexist with our neighbours but on equal terms of mutual respect, i.e. without compromising Allah-given fundamental rights of Muslims.”

Fayose: Travail of a Serial OLUTAGBAMOLE |Hon. Dare Adeleke

Yorubas, by extension Africans, are renown for respectfully revering their Elders, both indoor and in the public, in words and in actions. However, one gets to wonder what amiss when one views the conducts of His Excellency, former Governor Peter Ayodele Fayose, who at every available opportunity do throws decorum to the winds.

For the avoidance of doubt, in the last few weeks, I’ve read with extreme disbelief many of his impish public releases against two of our revered Elders of Yoruba nation. Most especially is the worthless statement released on his official twitter handle against the Atoona Odua (Pathfinder) of Yorubaland, High Chief Olabode Ibiyinka George.

Across Party or Ethnic affliations, it is now a general belief that Dr Fayose’s penchant for disrespecting Elders and reputable leaders of note has reached level of insanity. And those one we need to pity much are our so called Lagosians, who condemn Tinubu with utmost hatred because he’s an atowunrinwa, kneeling on our necks in Lagos, but now trying to worship this disrespectful Ekiti man, as their leader. I simply cannot fathom what to ascribe this to, is it greed or covetousness?

It’s even funny that Fayose’s treachery is coming up again at a time the masses are well prepared for an Otoge in Lagos State, and some PDP elements are trying to pull another alaileko to Lagos as their Leader. What a shame, what an irony of fate for some Yorubas. Though, the Ekitis are known to be cultured but Ayo is very uncultured. No doubt, many affirmed that some people simply lack moral values, neither do they have pictures of the elderly ones in their family.
