A chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC), Prince Kayode Oyetunde Bayewuwon has commended the tireless efforts, unwavering commitment and resilience of the Nigeria workforce especially the hardworking men and women of Oyo State.

The philanthropist made the commendation in his goodwill message to celebrate workers in Nigeria.

The Ogbomoso born chartered accountant hails the contributions of workers to the growth, development and stability of Nigeria’s economy.

“Today, I join millions across Nigeria to salute the tireless efforts, unwavering commitment, and resilience of the Nigerian workforce — especially the hardworking men and women of Oyo State.

Workers’ Day: Ajadi Charges Govts’ To Reduce Inflation, Improve Purchasing Power

As Nigerian’s celebrate worker’s day on Thursday May 1, 2025, a South West Chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo has called on Government at the different levels to reduce inflation and improve workers’ purchasing power, economic growth and development.

Ajadi who is an employer of labour, a friend and supporter of labour movement stated this in a statement to mark this year’s Workers Day, where he rejoiced with the workers and shared in their pains due to current economic hardship.

Ajadi said, a raise in salaries of workers may not be the solution to their plights if the current galloping inflation is allowed to continue, urging government at all levels to think out of the box and ensure that workers live a decent life.

Workers’ Day is an annual celebration of the labour movement and its achievements. It has its origin in the movement, specifically the eight-hour day movement, which advocated eight hours for work, eight hours for recreation, and eight hours for rest.

According to the statement, “I rejoice with Nigerian workers as they celebrate their day on Thursday May 1, 2025. I share in your joy and equally share your pains due to the current economic hardship.

“We appreciate your contributions to the country and wish you a successful celebration. Let me use the occasion of this year’s Workers’ Day to appeal to both the state government’s and the Federal Government to improve the purchasing power of the workers.

“Nigerian workers deserve our appreciation and respect for their contributions to the development of our country. I also salute them for their patriotic cooperation with the government and other institutions in the collective efforts to address societal challenges.

“There is no gainsaying the fact that Labour creates wealth for the nation, the more reason that the welfare of the Nigerian workers should always be accorded priority.

“Increment in salaries alone without a corresponding value will not end the workers’ suffering. The current galloping inflation should be halted by the government so that workers can enjoy the good value of their hard – earned income.

“Government should assist the workers by bring down the prices of good and services as this would buoy the workers’ purchasing power,” the statement added.

Oyo APC Endorses Tinubu for Second Term

The Oyo state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has disclosed its readiness to work for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027, stating that the decision was informed by the “efficacy of the Renewed Hope Agenda and the promises which his leadership holds for Nigeria, Nigerians and the African continent”.

The declaration was the highpoint of the Party’s stakeholder meeting held on Tuesday at the Oke-Ado, Ibadan state Secretariat of the Party. The stakeholders were made up of the APC State Executive Committee members and the Party Chairmen across the 33 local government councils in the state.

While addressing the press after the meeting; the state chairman, Alhaji Olayide Abas, posited that it was necessary for the stakeholders to acknowledge the milestone reached by the current administration of President Tinubu in less than two years. “Those of us who knew the antecedent of our dear President might not be surprised that he has approached governance with such an enormous degree of courage, determination and patriotism but it is imperative that we make public our satisfaction and optimism if only to encourage him.

“It is on this note that stakeholders of the Party who attended the extended executive committee meeting today decided to announce our readiness to have President Tinubu in office as the nation’s number one man beyond 2027. He has shown good understanding of the challenges facing the country in addition to the possession of the blueprint to tackle them and as a result of this, Nigerians need to give him enough time to complete the enormous task of repositioning the country.

“The recent gale of defections by members of the opposition parties is a pointer to the fact that many discerning Nigerians are ready to key into the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President by shunning primordial sentiments and selfish interests to joining the APC which they see as the only vehicle of national rebirth and holistic development. To this end, Oyo APC cannot afford to be at the back seat,” Abas said.

Others who spoke in tandem with the submission of the state chairman included; Alh. Tajudeen Olanite (State Secretary), Olawale Sadare (Publicity Secretary), Alhaja Tinuade Adigun (State Woman Leader) and Prince John Aremu (State Youth Leader). They all expressed their readiness to work for the success of the Tinubu administration while they also praised the Party’s national chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and his team for “building a stronger and more formidable APC across the country.

In another development; a group of eminent personalities within Oyo APC, The Peace Advocates, has restated its commitment to restoration of harmony and team spirit in the Party in the build up to the 2027 general election even as it lauded the decision of the executive committees at all levels in the state to endorse President Bola Tinubu for second term in office.

The group led by the trio of Dr. Akin Onigbinde (SAN), Chief Wale Ohu and Prince Niran Olayoju, stated this during a courtesy visit to the state Secretariat of the party on Tuesday. The group said that the visit was to intimate the state chairman about its plan to embark on a tour of all the geopolitical zones in the state to preach genuine peace and reconciliation among party faithful.

Others members of the group who were present during the visit included; Prince Gbade Lana, Hon. (Dr ) Adepeju Esan, Engr. Adewale Adeoye, Alh. Rasaq Raji, Hon. Amusat Ogunsola and Alh. Adebayo Aruna.

Senator Alli felicitates APC chieftain, Shina Alabi at 61

Senator Sharafadeen Alli (APC-Oyo South) has congratulated Hon. Shina Alabi, a notable chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on the occasion of his 61st birthday anniversary.

This is contained in a statement issued by his Media office and made available to newsmen on Tuesday in Ibadan.

Senator Alli described Alabi as a consistent progressive, grassroots mobiliser, and respected political leader whose contributions to the growth of the party remain commendable.

He said that Alabi’s unwavering commitment to the ideals of progressive politics and his passion for the development of his people have distinguished him as a dependable leader and loyal party stalwart.

Alli acknowledged Alabi’s outstanding service and his continued dedication to promoting good governance and party unity across the state.

The Senator prayed for continued good health, long life and greater accomplishments for the celebrant.

He urged him to remain steadfast in his patriotic service to the people and the party.

Appointment: Wolekanle Hails Gov Makinde, Pledges Effective Service Delivery

Hon. Akinwale Akinwole, popularly known as Wolekanle, has expressed deep appreciation to Governor Seyi Makinde for appointing him as the Chairman of the Oyo State Local Government Service Commission.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Wolekanle described the appointment as a great honour and a call to higher responsibility.

He pledged unwavering loyalty to Governor Makinde and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), assuring that he would justify the confidence reposed in him.

“I am sincerely grateful to His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, for finding me worthy of this important role. This is not just a personal milestone; it is an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of grassroots governance in our state,” he said.

Wolekanle, a known grassroots mobiliser, pledged to work towards effective local government administration across the state. He emphasized that under his leadership, the commission would prioritize professionalism, transparency, and staff welfare.

He also acknowledged the efforts and contributions of his predecessors in laying a strong foundation for the Commission and promised to build on their legacies. According to him, there will be continuity in policies and programmes that align with the vision of Governor Makinde for the overall development of Oyo State.

“We will ensure the commission operates in line with the governor’s vision of inclusive governance. Our primary focus will be on strengthening institutional capacity and promoting the welfare of local government staff across the state,” he added.

Wolekanle however called on stakeholders and local government workers to support the commission’s efforts to improve efficiency and service delivery.

Ogburo Boundary Dispute: Past Oluwos Weren’t Rude to Ibadanland – Olubadan, CCII, Other Stakeholders Caution Osun Monarch

The Mogajis in Ibadanland, Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), Obas, Baales and Ibadan Compound Peace Initiative (ICPI) have lambasted the Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi, for his recent outburst against the Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Dr. Owolabi Olakulehin, Ige Olakulehin 1, over the long-standing boundary dispute between Ibadan and Iwo at the Ogburo community.

The stakeholders described Oluwo as a blatant lier who has no regards for traditional institutions, sane and sensible environment.

A statement by President of Ibadan Mogajis, Mogaji Asimiyu Ariori and ICPI Coordinator, Mogaji Nurudeen Akinade argue that the Oluwo’s remarks were disrespectful and provocative, undermining the revered Olubadan’s throne.

The duo expressed disappointment that the Oluwo would resort to insults rather than seeking traditional, diplomatic and legal resolution to the boundary issue.

They emphasized that the Ogburo dispute requires calm sensible and constructive dialogue, not inflammatory rhetoric.

The chiefs called on the Oluwo to retract his statements and apologize to the Olubadan, Olubadan-in-council and the good people of Ibadanland, or face the wrath of the ancestors.

“All the evidences including court cases from time immemorial showing Ibadan triumphant against Iwo over Ogburo boundary are there for people to see. INEC Unit 3, Ward 11 in Lagelu Local Government in domicile in Ogburo community, which makes their votes belong to Oyo State.

“The Police authority in Oyo state as well including zone 11 Police command have established that the boundary is full of illegal mining activities by allegedly by the Iwo people, on that basis, they are chasing away Ibadan people away from there homes and farmland.

“We have in on a good authority that only the Olubadan of Ibadanland has been the only monarch installing the real Ologburo from time immemorial.”

According to them, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, a highly respected traditional ruler has been at the center of efforts to resolve the Ogburo boundary dispute through peaceful means, not minding the aggressive and transgressive efforts been embarked upon by Oluwo since he was enthroned.

The Ibadan chiefs praised the Kabiyesi Olubadan’s approach, the efforts of Otun Olubadan, His Royal Majesty and Excellency, Oba Senator Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja and other members of Olubadan – in – council highlighting their commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the region.

They urged the Oluwo to follow a similar path, prioritizing dialogue, traditional approach and cooperation over confrontation.

The Ibadan Chiefs warned that the Oluwo’s comments could exacerbate the situation, leading to further conflict and instability.

“Who is Oluwo to assume the position of the Director General of the National Boundary commission to shift the boundary from Odo Oba to Papa? Where was he when Osun state was created in 1991? Was he the one that created a new map after the Osun state was created?

“All records and Map before and after the creation of Osun state indicated that Odo Oba still remains the natural common boundary between the two states. Oyo state as the Father of Osun State has all the records intact. Ibadanland remain the Grand father of Iwo by all ramifications

“Why are we not having any problem along the Ikire axis where the Asejire river remains the common Natural boundary. Why is it that the same river links at Odo Oba will now be rejected by Oluwo and his people as a common natural boundary at the Iwo axis?”

The Chiefs however have called on government and relevant authorities to intervene in the dispute, urging a swift resolution that respects the rights and interests of both communities.

They emphasized the need for a peaceful resolution, one that prioritizes the well-being and security of the people living in the Ogburo community and beyond.

The also backed up their claims with documentary evidence which goes thus:

“Western Region Gazette V.NLN 240 of 1969 Ogburo was in lbadan East District Council not in the then Iwo D.C , Western Nigeria Gazette 46, Vol 10 of 10th august 1961 – Ogburo in Ibadan East District Council.

“Late Baale of Ogburo, Chief Lawani Adio Bankole, installed by Olubadan of Ibadanland as the Ogburo traditional leader.

“Iwo District Council did not have Ogburo or Ologburo on its Map or Local Government, W.RLN 223 of 1952 Ogburo was one of the towns in Ibadan District Council, Ogburo was not in Iwo District Council.

“W.RLN 335 of 1988- Olubadan of Ibadanland was head of Ibadan District Council which comprises Ogburo among other settlements , Oluwo was head of Iwo District Council comprising of only Ile-Ogbo, Oluponna Kuta ,Ogbaagbaa, Ikonifin, Bode-Osi, Ajagaase, etc, by this arrangement Oluwo has no power to install or appoint any Oba or Chief in Ogburo or any settlement West of river Oba. Only the Olubadan of Ibadanland had and has that right.

“Population Census of Western Region (1952) Ogburo with villages under her was in Ibadan Area (i.e Ibadan Division), whereas in Osun Division under Iwo Ogburo is nót there. River Oba being boundary between Ogburo in Ibadan Division and Iwo in Osun Division.

“National Electoral Commission’s registrations of Constituencies and
Senatorial Districts 1979 – Ogburo under Lagelu North and not under Iwo West.

Alhassan Yahya, A Leader with Milk of Human Kindness –  Oyo NUJ

The Oyo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) joins the entire journalistic fraternity in congratulating Alhassan Yahya, the union’s President, on his 50th birthday.

The congratulatory message for the Union’s leader was contained in a statement signed by the State’s Chairman, Ademola Babalola and made available to the media by the Secretary, Sola Oladapo.

According to him, “this milestone birthday is a testament to his dedication, hard work, and commitment to the journalism profession.

“As a leader, Alhassan Yahya has consistently demonstrated the milk of human kindness, empathy, and compassion.”

Oyo NUJ recalls that his emergence as NUJ President marks a significant moment for journalists across the country, and his wealth of experience and positions held in the profession make him an ideal candidate for the role.

The Union said “Under his leadership, the NUJ is poised to reach greater heights, driven by his vision for innovation, inclusiveness, and progress.

Make Adequate Provision For The Aged, Ajadi Admonishes Government

A South West Chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, (NNPP), Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo has called on the Federal and other level of government to make adequate provision for old people as is obtainable in developed countries.

Ajadi gave this admonition, while speaking on the sideline of the final funeral ceremony of Late Mrs Oyinade Teluwo in Lagos on Friday.

He said it is high time such provision is enshrined in the constitution because everybody prays to get to old age, a stage when one is old, can no longer takes care of oneself.

Late Oyinade Teluwo is the mother of the NNPP Ogun Central Senatorial Candidate in the 2023 general election, Mr Kehinde Teluwo.

According to Ajadi, “We need to give little words of advice to our government especially Mr President. He has travelled to many advanced countries. We have also by the Grace of God, been to many countries where we see how they make adequate provision for their elderly people.

“We need to copy that, government need to provide for the aged people. In a place like United States of America and the United Kingdom, governments take care of the needs of the elderly.

“Even if you are young, you are working, and suddenly you lose your jobs, either through termination of appointments or inability of your working place to continue operations, there is a system that will signal to the government that this person is not working again. The government gives priority and take care of such a person until he secures another employment.

“For the retirees, they know that when they retire, there is a provision for them to live on.

“But in Nigeria, even those who work as civil servants, their entitlements are delayed and pensions are not payed as at when due except few states.

“This must change. We all pray to live till old age and therefore our government must do something for the aged”.

Speaking on the life of Late Mrs Teluwo, Ajadi said, “Mama lived a good life. She was kind and generous. She left behind a good legacy for others to copy. She was a good Christian who served the Lord till her last minute on earth”.

Also speaking, the son of the deceased and NNPP Senatorial Candidate for Ogun Central in the last general election, Mr Kehinde Teluwo urged the government to improve the living and health conditions of Nigerians so that they can live long.

According to him, “My mother died at the age of 74 years. To we the children and the family, we wish she had stayed more because of her good deeds. But how many people live up to Seventy in Nigeria?

“The life expectancy is below 60. This is due to the toxic environment, the food we eat and inadequate health facilities. Government should do something in this regard”.

Speaking on her mother, the NNPP Chieftain said, “She was everything to me. She taught me to be close to God and that through Him, I can achieve anything I desire. She was a super woman, a role model in all the communities she served”.

Also speaking about Mrs Oyinade Teluwo, the daughter -In – law, Mrs Hope Teluwo said she was a detribalised mother-in-love.

“I am an Ibo Woman and when his son introduced me to her as the person he wanted to marry, she received me with open arms. She taught us love and I want the new generation to imbibe love in their lives and marriage”, she said.

Mrs Oyinade Teluwo’s burial was well attended by leaders and members of the NNPP in Ogun State including the state Chairman, Barrister John Aina.

Defection of individuals is tactical win for PDP – ‘Odidiomo’

Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Stanley Olajide, the PDP lawmaker representing Ibadan North-west/Ibadan South-west federal constituency of Oyo state in the national assembly, has assured party faithfuls and loyalists of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo state and across the country that the party remains steadfast in it’s commitment towards providing a credible alternative to the disastrous 10 year reign of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nigeria.

 

Olajide, a two term Federal Lawmaker and chairman, House of Representatives committee on Digital, Information Communication Technology and Cybersecurity, who is a ranking member of the lower legislative chamber gave this assurance, while addressing PDP party leaders drawn from ward 11 of Ibadan South West local area of Oyo state at his Adeoyo residence.

 

According to a statement made available to newsmen by Tolu Mustapha, Special Adviser, Media and Public Affairs to Hon. Adedeji Olajide, the lawmaker allayed the fears of party leaders present at the meeting on the defection of a couple of party members from the PDP to the APC across the country in recent times.

 

Olajide said the defection is a tactical win for the PDP as most of the defectors will naturally dislodge the internal runnings of the APC, as most of those who will be affected by the coming of the new entrants will cross over to the PDP.

 

Citing the example of Delta state governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Olajide, said, the loss of Sheriff to APC will upturn a lot of dynamics with their party, which will eventually lead to a mass exodus of those who will naturally be affected back to PDP.

 

“This is a win – win situation for both parties, Gov. Sheriff moving to APC will naturally upstage some prominent players with that party and a mass exodus will naturally hit APC in Delta state.

 

The PDP is their natural habitat, hence there’s no cause for alarm.

 

A couple of Gubernatorial hopefuls have definitely been upstaged by Sheriff ‘s movement and they will go back to their drawing board to plan their next move, which is PDP.

 

I can assure you that the leaders of PDP is on top of this. Don’t forget that the election period is here, hence political moves and calculations are earnestly ongoing. The transfer window is actively open, hence such moves are unexpected.

 

Hon. Adedeji Olajide also assured party leaders present at the meeting that the Oyo state PDP under the leadership of Engr. Seyi Makinde remains intact and unshaken, stating that rather than loose any of it’s member to the opposition party, Oyo state PDP is comfortably positioned to deplete they rank of the ailing opposition parties in the state by welcoming thousands of their member into the PDP fold.

 

“Oyo state is intact under the leadership of Gov. Seyi Makinde, both in the business of governance and party politics. I am saying it boldly to you that we will not loose any of our members to the opposition, rather, plans are in top gear to welcome defecting members of the opposition political parties into the PDP fold. Our strength and resolve lies in the all encompassing style of leadership Gov. Seyi Makinde has put in place in his last six years of leading Oyo state and I pleased to tell you that, looking at the records, we have not lost any member of our party to the opposition, and this will never happen,” olajide reiterated.

20th Anniversary: ParrotXtra Media Network Holds Southwest Leadership Summit

Vibrant media outfit, Parrotxtra Media Network has completed all the plans to host the governors of the Southwest region of Nigeria in commemoration of its 20 years anniversary of media excellence.

The event, which will berth the first of its kind ‘Southwest Leadership & Legacy Summit’, is scheduled to hold on May 5th, 2025 by 11am.

No child will be denied access to quality education in Oyo – Makinde assures residents

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has disclosed that one of his priorities is to ensure that no child of school age is denied access to quality education in the state. 

 

The governor also revealed that no fewer than eighty thousand (80,000) children of school age have returned to school since he stopped the payment of 3,000 fees in schools across the state.

 

Makinde who was represented by his Special Adviser on Media, Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju made these assertions while speaking as the Chairman of the occasion during the launch of a book titled “Defying Expectations: My Story of Perseverance From Conductor to Journalist” authored by Oyo State Correspondent for DAILY POST Newspaper, Mr Musliudeen Atanda Adebayo.

 

The event which coincided with the 40th birthday of the author was held at Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat Iyaganku Ibadan on Sunday.

 

It was graced by the Chairman of Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria and Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Media, Alhaji Oyekunle Oyetunji, Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu who was represented by Comrade Femi Awogboro, Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin who was represented by his Chief Press Secretary, Chief Solomon Olugbemiga Ayoade, Chief Executive Officer of Eternal Home Cemetery, Dr Adebukola Kadiri, National President of Nigeria Association of Social Workers (NASoW) Alhaji Mashood Mustapha, NUJ Chairman, Alhaji Ademola Babalola, Professor Yemisi Lydia Olaleye who was represented by Mrs Yunus Ayandoye and the Chief Executive Officer of Fire Academy of Nigeria, Professor Afolabi Charles Israel.

Makinde while addressing the gathering, said that he is determined to ensure that no child of school age in the state is denied access to quality education, noting that he was ready to support the author and all other talented individuals in the state to achieve their dreams.

 

Makinde who added that the book is a worthwhile manual to teach the younger ones and encourage them that they can get anywhere with determination. He described the author as a humble, hardworking, and determined individual who doesn’t see difficulties as problem but stepping stones.

 

He added that Musliudeen Adebayo’s story compliments his administration’s focus which aims to promote quality formal education in the State.

 

The governor while speaking further, added that the stoppage of 3,000 school fees in public schools on assumption of office has helped over 80 thousands out-of-school children returned to school.

 

He further noted that he has embarked on another phase of rehabilitation of 205 schools in the state, adding that about 20,000 teachers were employed in the state towards helping children from grass to grace.

 

“The governor is determined to ensure that no child in Oyo State is denied access to quality education. That is why the government is creating opportunities for people to thrive. The governor will support Musliudeen and other people in his category. The governor is taking Oyo State from poverty to prosperity”.

 

Ogundoyin, while speaking maintained that the event is a powerful testament to vision and resilience of the author. He described his story as a reflector of the story of many Nigerians who rose to greatness from humble beginnings.

 

He added that he is encouraged by stories like this which captured the stories of a man who refused to be bossed by circumstances to becoming a great journalist. He said the author wrote a story that really maters, recommending it a source of encouragement to others, especially the younger generations towards navigating their life path.

 

Chief Executive Officer of Eternal Home Cemetery who double as mother of the day, Dr. Adebukola Kadiri, while speaking encouraged underprivileged children never to give up on their dreams but to embrace the values of hard work, perseverance, and determination.

 

Kadiri joined other dignitaries at the event to encourage struggling children not to lose hope, emphasizing that with prayers, diligence, and perseverance, they could achieve greatness.

 

She warned against engaging in get-rich-quick schemes, stressing that such paths often lead to untimely death or social insignificance.

 

“Musliudeen could have diverted his attention to distractions like internet fraud and other unlawful activities, but he chose the path of education and hard work, and today, he is reaping the rewards. With the situation in the country, though it is not ideal for the struggling child, the God factor and tenacity make any dream possible”.

 

The guest lecturer, Dr Bayo Busari while speaking on the topic “Redirecting Youthful Energy towards Positive Self and National Development” identified unemployment, lack of access to education and health issues as some of the challenges facing the youths in the country.

 

He described education as a veritable tool to ensure emancipation, empowerment and societal growth.

 

He said, “Education enables young people to become active participants in society and make informed decisions about their lives. It empowers them to pursue their aspirations, develop their talents, and contribute to the betterment of their communities and the world. By equipping them with knowledge and skills, education helps them to navigate challenges and opportunities, both personal and professional. Education provides young people with the skills they need to participate in the workforce and contribute to the economy. It fosters critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills, which are essential for success in various fields. Education also cultivates creativity, innovation, and adaptability, allowing young people to thrive in a rapidly changing world.

 

“Education increases opportunities for social and economic participation, helping young people to overcome poverty and lead fulfilling lives. It provides access to better jobs and opportunities, allowing them to contribute to the growth and prosperity of their communities. Education also promotes social inclusion and reduces the risk of crime and other negative behaviours. Education fosters self-confidence, self-esteem, and a sense of purpose, which are essential for personal well-being. It helps young people develop a positive self-image and a strong sense of identity. Education also promotes resilience, adaptability, and the ability to learn from setbacks, which are crucial for navigating life’s challenges. Education contributes to a more informed and engaged citizenry, leading to better governance and decision-making. It fosters tolerance, understanding, and respect for diversity, promoting social cohesion and peace. Education helps build a more just and equitable society, where everyone has the opportunity to reach their full potential”.

 

The book reviewer, Professor Rahman Akinoso, while reviewing the book, described the book as a ‘work of art’ with 166 pages and 13 chapters. He added that the piece narrated a journey from challenges to successes defying all odds through perseverance. He said the writing pattern embraces clear, plain and understandable choice of words with pictorial illustrations strategically positioned for clear messages.

 

He further recommended that the book is suitable to encourage teenagers on the importance of perseverance in the pursuit for growth. He said the book is more a story book beneficial to youths of secondary school age, adding that real names should be replaced with fictitious name to suit usage in school and avoid ethical violations in book reading.

 

NASoW National President, Alhaji Moshood Mustapha describes the celebrant as a promising and hardworking man who has added value to the association through the value of pen.

 

NUJ Chairman, Alhaji Ademola Babalola, noted that the author had chronicled his experiences and growth and picked his 40th birthday as a significant period to launch it.

 

He commended the celebrant for taking cognate steps to defy all odds and embrace formal education. He said despite earning daily from bus conductor, he has a direction about his life. He described Musliudeen as one of the active members of the journalistic union who is well connected, hardworking, dogged, zealous and committed to his job.

 

The author, in his welcome address, expressed gratitude to God for transforming his life journey from that of a conductor to a journalist, and for sparing his life.

 

He also urged both the state and federal governments to recommend the book in secondary schools to ensure that children in schools have access to his books, which he believes will positively influence and inspire the younger generation and generations yet unborn.

 

He added that the book traces his struggles as an orphan and how he sailed through the hurdles and worked as a bus conductor at CMS Park 4 Marina Lagos between August 2004 and February 2009 so as to attain university education.

 

“It is certain that behind every success story, there are many ups and downs, challenges and obstacles confronted in the course of accomplishing the goals, it is against this background that I present to the public today “Defying Expectations: My Story of Perseverance from Conductor to Journalist”, a book authored by me which chronicles my struggles in the last 40 years.

 

“I want to use this medium to appeal to the Oyo State government and the Federal Government to recommend this book to all secondary school students so as to learn the art of perseverance, resilience and consistency which continued to keep me going this far”.

Olubadan, Traditional Stakeholders Express Concern Over Ogburo Illegal Mining, Boundary Dispute

Key figures in Ibadanland, including Oba Owolabi Olakulehin and members of the Olubadan-in-council have expressed concern over persistent boundary disputes between Ibadan and Iwo in Ogburo community, alleging that gold mining, rather than land dispute is the major reason behind the intractable problem.

They did not, however, state whether the mining activities purportedly going on in the Ibadan axis of Iwo border was legal or illegal and who and who were involved.

They, however, submitted that unless drastic action is taken against criminal suspects who destroy lives and property in the areas under reference, there may be no light at the end of the tunnel.

The key figures comprising elements from the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, CCII, Ibadan Mogajis, Ibadan Compound Peace Initiative had gone to wish Olubadan happy Easter and branched to Otun Olubadan Rashidi Ladoja’s house before lamenting the spate of killing, kidnapping and arson along Ogburo boundary corridor between Ibadan and Iwo axis of Osun State.

The stakeholders said it has come to their notice that the current crisis in Ogburo is beyond boundary dispute, saying activities of miners going on in the area are fueling the crisis.

A statement jointly signed by the Former Chief Press Secretary to Oyo state Governor, Chief Adeola Oloko and the Coordinator Ibadan compound Peace initiatives, Mogaji Nurudeen Akinade, after the stakeholders meeting held at Bodija residence of Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja stated that there is need for stakeholders intervention so as to prevent the crisis from getting out of hand.

The meeting was attended by Eekerin Olubadan, Oba Hamidu Ajibade, Ekerin Balogun Akeem Adewoyin, Ekarun Balogun, Sen. Sharafadeen Alli, President-General, Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) and Aare Atunluse of Ibadanland, Chief Ajeniyi Ajewole, Special Adviser to Oyo state Governor on Security Matters, Fatai Owoseni, and Rtd. AIG Sikiru Akande. M

Mogajis Present were led by Mogaji Asimiyu Ariori while Baales present were led by Baale Isiaka Akinpelu.

According to the statement, the meeting was called to look into the boundary dispute at Ogburo, a boundary community between Ibadan and Iwo, Osun State.

“What we discovered was that there were a lot of mining activities being orchestrated by some sections of Osun who were allegedly supported by prominent traditional rulers in the area.

“What has doused the tension for now is the visit by the Oyo State Commissioner of Police to the area and suspects arrested. However, many people have been injured since the beginning of the dispute, Ologburo installed by Olubadan has been sacked and could not come to town again.

“Recently, a grader belonging to Lagelu Local government was razed with fire, those perpetrating these dastardly acts are currently advancing towards Papa and Lagun.Schools and maternity centres built by Oyo state have been hijacked and converted to Osun State properties.

“The stakeholders have resolved to critically look into the matter and ensure that the issue is critically dealt with particularly in the area of mining going on in the axis.

“We call the attention of Oyo State government, we know the state government has been doing well, but they still need to do more.

“The meeting is a continuous one, we will still hold another meeting to monitor activities going on there to know the true picture of the crisis and alert people of its security implications.”

South West Chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, (NNPP), Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo has urged world leaders, especially Nigeria’s political leaders to emulate the selfless service of Pope Francis as he joined Christians worldwide, particularly the Catholic faithful in mourning the passing of the Vatican leader.

He noted that political leaders should honour him not with words alone but with action backed with principle, through justice, equity, fairness and show love to the governed.

He said the death of the Pope, a humble servant of God coming during the celebration of Jesus Christ’s Resurrection, is a sacred return to his Maker.

Ajadi said Pope Francis’ death hours after his address at an Easter Sunday Service at the Vatican should be a lesson to all that death can come at anytime.

He therefore urged world leaders to emulate the late Pope’s message of mercy for the marginalised, the refugees, the migrants and the forgotten.

According to him, “I was saddened to hear of the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis, monday morning.

“I send my most heartfelt condolences and profound sympathy to the Catholic Church and the Christians.

“He was indeed the Pope for the poor, the downtrodden and the forgotten. He was an instrument of peace who deeply embodied the message of Christ: love for God and love for humanity.

“He was a steadfast advocate for the developing world, where he consistently spoke against economic injustice and ceaselessly prayed for peace and stability in troubled regions.

“I urged World leaders and especially Nigeria’s political leaders to honour him not with words alone but with action: by lifting those who are down, healing our communities, and defending the dignity of every person”, Ajadi said in the statement he personally signed on Monday to mourn the passing of Pope Francis.

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, Bashorun Akinwale Akinwole better known as Wolekanle, has congratulated Christians across the state and Nigeria on the celebration of Easter, urging them to reflect on the values of love, sacrifice, and renewal associated with the season.
