NATASHA: AKPABIO BREAKS SILENCE

ABUJA – THE President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio has taken a swipe at the suspended Chairman, Senate Committee on Diaspora and NGOs, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, PDP, Kogi Central following her allegation of his plans to assassinate her, describing such as false and malicious.

According to Akpabio, inspite of these allegations from Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan flowing from that of sexual harassment to the present one of plans to eliminate, he will remain undeterred and as a statesman devoted to national unity, institutional integrity, and the rule of law, he will not be distracted by what he termed malicious falsehoods or inflammatory rhetoric.

In a statement on Friday by his Special Adviser, Media / Publicity and official Spokesperson, Eseme Eyiboh, he said
that regardless of the necessity for legal redress, formal letters of demand, seeking immediate public retractions, apologies, and compensation for reputational harm, are underway to be served on both Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and Senator Elisha Abbo.

The President of the Senate has called on the Nigerian public in particular and the International Community to reject these baseless and provocative narratives, just as he said that the Senate under his leadership would remain focused on its constitutional mandate: to promote legislative excellence, safeguard democratic values, and deliver meaningful progress for the Nigerian people.

The statement is titled, ” Re: false and malicious allegations targeting the President of the Senate, His Excellency, Senator Godswill Akpabio, GCON.”

The statement read, “The Office of the President of the Senate strongly condemns the recent baseless, false and inflammatory accusation made by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, in which she falsely alleged that the Senate President, His Excellency, Senator Godswill Akpabio, GCON, was involved in a plot to assassinate her.

“While speaking in Kogi State on April 1, 2025, the suspended Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan recklessly and maliciously claimed that Senator Godswill Akpabio “recruited” former Governor Yahaya Bello to “assassinate her in Kogi State rather than in Abuja.” This outrageous accusation is not only false but a complete fabrication and deeply irresponsible and dangerous attempt to provoke public unrest, attract media attention, and discredit the person and office of the President of the Senate for ulterior motives.

“It is important to remind the public that this same individual had previously made an unsubstantiated accusation of sexual harassment against Senator Akpabio a claim she seem to have abandoned without explanation. Having failed to gain traction with that narrative, she has now escalated her campaign of misinformation to a deadly and defamatory dimension.

“This pattern of deliberate falsehoods and manipulative theatrics reveals a troubling willingness to exploit public sensitivities through recurring victimhood narratives. It is a matter of public record that she has previously made assassination allegations against former Governor Yaya Bello and others in 2019 and 2023, along with multiple unsubstantiated claims of sexual harassment against other dignitaries. Her recurring persecution narrative and evident lying complex should not be weaponized to malign individuals or destroy hard-earned reputations.

“Interestingly, this latest reckless allegation is not occurring in isolation.

“Barely 24 hours later, on April 2, 2025, former Senator Elisha Abbo appeared on Arise Television to revive a previously withdrawn claim that Senator Akpabio “manipulated the judiciary” to secure his removal from the Senate. Nigerians will recall that Mr. Abbo, in 2023, publicly retracted this same accusation and tendered an apology after acknowledging that his claims were founded on incorrect assumptions. His removal from office was the outcome of a constitutionally grounded judicial decision by the Court of Appeal, which independently determined that he was not duly elected to represent Adamawa North.

“In a further twist, Mr. Abbo also alleged that he was denied his entitlements by the Senate President. This, too, is categorically false. Entitlements such as salaries and allowances are processed strictly through administrative and legal procedures. The Senate President does not and cannot unilaterally approve or deny such requests. Any delays or rejections would have been based solely on due diligence and compliance with established protocols.

“The timing, tone, and striking similarity of these coordinated attacks point clearly to a politically motivated smear campaign. These individuals backed by undisclosed interests appear united in a desperate effort to undermine the credibility of the Senate and its leadership and intended to distract from their own personal and political shortcomings and failings.

“Senator Godswill Akpabio remains undeterred. As a statesman devoted to national unity, institutional integrity, and the rule of law, he will not be distracted by malicious falsehoods or inflammatory rhetoric.

“Regardless of the necessity for legal redress, formal letters of demand, seeking immediate public retractions, apologies, and compensation for reputational harm, are underway to be served on both Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and Mr Elisha Abbo.

“We call on the Nigerian public in particular and the International Community to reject these baseless and provocative narratives. The Senate, under Senator Akpabio’s leadership, remains focused on its constitutional mandate: to promote legislative excellence, safeguard democratic values, and deliver meaningful progress for the Nigerian people.

A South West Chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo has condemned the killing of 16 Kano travellers, claimed to be hunters in Edo state, saying jungle justice is not in the interest of any civilised Nation as he also commiserated with the Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf and the people of Kano State generally over the killing.

Ajadi said in the statement, “l commiserate with the Kano State Governor, His Excellency, Alhaji Abba Yusuf and the people of Kano State generally on the death of 16 northern hunters who were brutally murdered in Uromi Edo State on their way to Kano from Port Harcourt for the Eid-el-fitr.

“I urge Nigerians to live as one, irrespective of tribe or religion. Our National Anthem emphasise unity and we must uphold those words of our National Anthem which says ‘though tribes and tongues may differ in brotherhood we stand.’

“This type of action is condemnable and we should take solace in the fact that the government has promised to fish out those that carried out the dastardly act and I know they will face the full wrath of the law.

“The lesson from this incident is that we as Nigerians should not take laws into our hands. We should report any suspected criminals or crimes to the nearest law enforcement agencies.

Oil & Gas Stakeholder Lauds Tinubu on new NNPCL Board…

The Pan Nigerian Oil and Gas Stakeholders on Wednesday commended President Bola Tinubu for taking a significant step towards reforming the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited by reconstituting its board and appointing new leadership.

A press statement in Portharcourt, Rivers State by a concerned industry key player on behalf of the Pan Nigerian Oil and Gas Stakeholders, Engr. Raphael Ajuri described the President as a great leader with the courage to do the unthinkable, saying “this is the first time in the nation’s history that a President will hands down a marching order and clear-cut target for the board with a view of making Nigeria recover its lost grounds in the sector”.

Ajuri said this is indeed an era of “Renewed Hope” as this latest development would spur the nation to achieve many of the eluded decades of expansive growth in the nation’s economy.

He said the President’s move aims to enhance operational efficiency, restore investor confidence, and drive economic growth in the oil sector.

The new 11-man board, led by Engineer Bashir Bayo Ojulari as Group CEO and Ahmadu Musa Kida as non-executive chairman, is tasked with conducting a strategic portfolio review to ensure alignment with value maximization objectives.

The board members represent the country’s geopolitical zones, bringing diverse expertise and perspectives to the table. President Tinubu has set ambitious targets for the new board, including increasing oil production to two million barrels daily by 2027 and three million daily by 2030.

Ajuri said Tinubu’s administration also aims to boost gas production, elevate NNPC’s share of crude oil refining output, and attract significant investments to the sector.

He said the Industry stakeholders expect the new board to “Enhance transparency and accountability; Ensure that NNPC’s operations are transparent, and decisions are made in the best interest of the nation”.

Ajuri further said that the federal government should also expect the new board to build strong relationships with international oil companies, local stakeholders, and communities to drive growth and development.

“The board should Increase the participation of Nigerian companies and professionals in the oil and gas sector to create jobs and stimulate economic growth while at the same time, Implement sustainable practices and mitigate the environmental impact of oil and gas operations.

Ajuri added that, on the overall, “President Tinubu’s reforms and the new board’s leadership are expected to revitalize the oil sector, drive economic growth, and improve the lives of Nigerians.

The President Tinubu, had while invoking the powers granted under Section 59, subsection 2 of the Petroleum Industry Act, 2021, emphasised that the board’s restructuring is crucial for enhancing operational efficiency, restoring investor confidence, boosting local content, driving economic growth, and advancing gas commercialisation and diversification.

President Tinubu also handed out an immediate action plan to the new board: to conduct a strategic portfolio review of NNPC-operated and Joint Venture Assets to ensure alignment with value maximisation objectives. Since 2023, the Tinubu administration has implemented oil sector reforms to attract investment. Last year, NNPC reported $17 billion in new investments within the sector. The administration now envisions increasing the investment to $30 billion by 2027 and $60 billion by 2030.

The Tinubu administration targets raising oil production to two million barrels daily by 2027 and three million daily by 2030. Concurrently, the government wants gas production jacked to 8 billion cubic feet daily by 2027 and 10 billion cubic feet by 2030.

Furthermore, President Tinubu expects the new board to elevate NNPC’s share of crude oil refining output to 200,000 barrels by 2027 and reach 500,000 by 2030.

The new board chairman, Ahmadu Musa Kida, is from Borno State. He is an alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he received a degree in civil engineering in 1984. He also obtained a postgraduate diploma in petroleum engineering from the Institut Francaise du Petrol (IFP) in Paris He started his career in the oil industry at Elf Petroleum Nigeria and later joined Total Exploration and Production as a trainee engineer in 1985. Mother’s Day: Ajadi Commends Nigerian Women For Their Pivotal Roles

A South West Chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, (NNPP), Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo has used the occasion of this year’s Mother’s Day to extol the virtue of Nigerian women, saying they are playing pivotal role in building families.

While appreciating his wife Mrs Oyindamola Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, his deputy in the 2023 gubernatorial election, Alhaja Shakirat Arowolo for their unquantifiable support and all women in the country for their inestimable sacrifices, Ajadi described mothers as the unsung heroes, whose impact resonates far beyond what words could describe.

Ajadi who made this known while speaking with journalists on the occasion of this year’s Mother’s Day, said Mother’s commitment and dedication to raising the next generation is truly inspiring.

He said, “Mother’s Day is a celebration honouring the mother of the family or individual, as well as motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society.”

Ajadi called on the President and the state governors to give more role to women in nation building through allocation of more political offices in government.

He in particular said the governments at all level in the country should work towards achieving the Beijing Declaration of having 30 percent of women in elective and political appointments.

Ajadi who was the governorship candidate of the NNPP in Ogun State in 2023, said the need to give more women voices in governance made him to have a female Deputy, Alhaja Shakirat Arowolo during the last general election.

According to him, “I rejoice with our women on the occasion of the 2025 Mother’s Day. You are the unsung heroes, whose impact resonates far beyond what words can describe.

“Your commitment and dedication to raising the next generation is truly inspiring. I celebrate all mothers, they are the heart of families, the nurturers of children, and the pillars of society.

“Today, I honour every mother, especially those who care tirelessly for the families, who balance work and home, and those who, in spite of challenges, continue to give their best.

“I say to all mothers that the country’s future lies in the values, wisdom and love we instil in the coming generation.“Happy Mother’s Day.

“I also use the occasion of this year’s Mother’s Day to call on the President and State Governors as well as the Nigerian electorate to remember the Beijing Declaration that seeks 30 percent for women in elective and political appointments.

“It is sad that out of 109 Senators, we are having only about five women senators. The percentage in the House of Representatives is also very low. Most State governments are having male-male as governors and deputies. We must change this situation in the coming elections,” the statement read in part.

Ex-NAWOJ President, Fatima Kareem Adigun felicitates with Muslim faithful

A former President of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Hajia Fatima Ajibola Kareem-Adigun, has felicitated with Muslim faithful in Nigeria and across the globe as they make this year’s Eid-al-Fitr.

Hajia Kareem-Adigun, who is also a former vice president, Gender Council, International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), stated this in a Sallah Message to the Muslim World and SOS to President Bola Tinubu on the gruesome killing, at Uromi, Edo State.

The statement read, “This is to rejoice with the Muslim Ummah worldwide, and in Nigeria, most especially over the completion of Ramadan fast, and the observance of Eid al-Fitri to mark the holy month; as instructed by Allah SWT.

“Having fulfilled the yearly Ramadan fasting this 2025, as one of the five pillars of Islam; lessons learnt such as total faith and deep-seated conviction in absoluteness of Allah, piety, charity, empathy, kindness; unity of the Muslim Ummah and the entire human race should not be lost on us.

“Similarly, I celebrate the womenfolk on Mother’s Day, which coincides with Eid al-Fitri. It’s such a pleasant coincidence that the two occasions overlap this year, and everyone around the world has at least something to celebrate.

“As a mother and grandmother, myself, I know firsthand the joys, the challenges, and the sacrifices that come with the incredible journey of motherhood. To all mothers and would-be mothers; you are the heartbeat of our families, our communities, and our society. Your love, your care, and your sacrifices make a difference in the lives of those around you.”

Meanwhile, on a sad note; she noted that, “The gruesome killing, at Uromi, Edo State, Nigeria; of Hausa hunters returning to the North for Eid al-Fitri celebration on mistaken suspicion as bandits, by people reported to be members of a vigilante group is deeply regretted. “However, while the incident is highly abhorrent and condemnable, one can not but just take heart and accept it as irreversible fate, as Muslims believe that nothing happens outside the sight of Allah.

“Nevertheless, I strongly demand justice for the killings to serve as a deterrent to others who are still barbaric in this 21st century and are fond of jungle justice and wanton killing of fellow humans. Even if the hunters were suspicious, the men of the vigilante who reportedly apprehended them should have handed them over to appropriate law enforcement agencies rather than take law into their own hands.

“I hereby call on President Tinubu as the Grand Commander of Federal Republic (GCFR) to do everything within his capacity, to sow seeds of compassion, friendliness, mutual trust and unity among the ordinary Nigerians who have been terribly manipulated and constantly being misguided by ethnic bigots, religious extremists and opprobrious politicians; all of whom are rather self-serving.

“Finally, I pray for the repose of the souls of the Uromi victims while asking God to grant the families they left behind the fortitude to bear the losses. And for the Muslims, may Allah SWT accept our Ibadah during and after Ramadan and may we witness more of the blessed month in health, wealth, grace, peace, joy, happiness, and abundant blessings. And may we increase in faith and piety. Ameen.”

…calls for IGP, Oyo CP, Makinde, other stakeholders’ intervention

The village heads of Atana, Abibu, Eleso, Faleke, Aremu, Alakaso Iwinleti and Adetona villages in Omi Adio area of Ido Local Government has called on Oyo State governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Olakulehin Owolabi, the Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, Director of State Security Service and other security agencies in the state to as a matter of urgency come to their aid as some langrabbers has allegedly descended on them claiming ownership of their lands.

The spokesperson on behalf of the village heads, Alhaji Muritala Ifawale Adekola (a.k.a E le Omo Buruku Danu), who also doubles as the Balogun Aba Aremu, disclosed that these villages comprise part of the 137 villages that make up Omi Adio as a community.

Ifawale who is the chairman of the Iba Gani Adams led Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) for the entire Ibadanland said these landgrabbers came from no-where and wanted to claim these lands.

Alhaji Muri Omi also called on Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State to intervene in the matter, as part of the efforts of his administration to curb activities of land grabbers in the pacesetter state.

He claimed that some people are encroaching on the lands, and that some police officers are aiding and abating the land grabbers.

According to him, some portions of the said land have been cleared by the encroachers trying to grab his family land illegally.

Muri Omi noted that it is high time the government and relevant authorities, especially the judiciary and the police fought the activities of the land grabbers as he lamented that their activities are becoming rampant in many parts of the country.

His words: “I am talking in respect of the landed property belonging to our forefathers. I heard that some people are going around with some pictures and fake documents to sell land to innocent and unsuspecting people. They were supposed to pay back money to the bona-fide owner of the land but they’re hiding under some police officers.

“They have been going about with pictures and sometimes ago, they put a dead person’s picture in one of the petition they wrote to Abuja.

“The land grabbers and some of those people that have been expelled from the Gani Adams led Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) through information are organising a gang up now and that’s why am calling on the IGP and Oyo State Commissioner of Police to as a matter of urgency warn his officers and men not to be allowed to be used by these land grabbers”.

The OPC Senatorial Chairman expressed optimism that the rule of law and justice will prevail in the matter, if concerned authorities act appropriately on the matter before it gets out of hand.

“I want to send a note of warning that we will not watch them take over our fathers land that has been nurtured for over 300 years now. Some people cannot just come in a day to sat its their fathers land when they’re not even an indigene of Ibadan. We will not accept that at all.

“This lands has been in the care of the first to third generation and we are the fourth generation holding forth for the land. We have never one day heard from anyone that they give anybody any form of money or farm produce on the land.

“It is surprising to now see some landgrabbers who are claiming they own the land. We cannot open our eyes and let some people come and take away what is ours. If they know they’ve genuine documents, they should head to the court to challenge it.

“I am once again pleading to all the security agencies in Oyo State because these landgrabbers use their officers to torment our people in many ways. I don’t want something that will generate into land war and that’s why am coming out now to let the world know what’s going on.”

“The government and people of Nigeria condemn this widespread destruction. We continue to voice our concerns over the situation in Gaza and the immeasurable suffering inflicted by the conflict and also call for an immediate ceasefire and a peaceful resolution in line with international humanitarian laws,” Olajide stated.

It would be recalled that the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace parliament, under the leadership of President Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Jarwan, has consistently condemned such hostilities, emphasizing that targeting civilians, civil institutions and health facilities, contravene international humanitarian law and human rights.

Hon. Olajide, called upon the international community to intervene promptly to halt the military escalation and ensure the protection of civilians.

He advocated for the establishment of humanitarian corridors to facilitate a safe, sustainable delivery of aid to Gaza and also called for the activation of a political and diplomatic resolution to the crisis, emphasizing the implementation of the two-state solution and the establishment of the State of Palestine in alignment with international legitimacy resolutions.

“With the situation unfolding, the global community is watching closely and hoping for a swift resolution that prioritizes the protection of innocent lives and the restoration of peace in the region.

“The destruction of infrastructure and the targeting of civilians has continued to draw widespread international condemnation and I can assure the global community of Nigeria’s support for dialogue, tolerance and peace as fundamental principles for achieving global stability and sustainable development.”
