Two nongovernmental organisations, the Positive Thinkers Action Networks and the G33 have described the Tuesday Lekki Tollgate massacre carried out by some Nigerian soldiers as barbaric, unacceptable, animalistic and satanic.
This is contained in a press statement issued by Convener-General – Otunba Saheed Bamiji Makinde. The groups condemned the actions in strong term, saying they identified with concerns of protesting Nigerian youths.
The statement reads in part:
It is regrettably condemnable. As a major Stakeholder in the Nigerian project, the group condemn in strong terms the excesses of our security agencies, particularly men and officer of the anti-crime agency, ”SARS” whose actions triggered the protests across the country.
We identify with every peaceful protest and gathering of concerned Nigerians, particularly the youths as guaranteed by the Constitution, while also supporting every legal and constitutional process at all levels of government to address the ugly situation with a view to resolving it amicably.
The nation is in a critical situation now, we therefore appeal to the Nigerian Youths that wherever you are or reside, please be law abiding and stay save. Where curfew is already imposed, please comply strictly with all regulations put in place by the government. Where there is no curfew, please exercise caution and restraint in your movements.
We have roles to play as a group, let’s be law abiding citizens irrespective of provocations. In all, we shall win…. at this point, negotiation is key. Let’s be strategic and position an articulate and coordinated leadership to a roundtable discussion with government where our demands shall be tabled with specific timelines.
Once again, please stay safe. Your life and wellbeing matter to you and to your family. Remember, safety first …
Thank you and God bless us all.
