The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has explained why the suspended former Commander of the Inspector General of Police, Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Abba Kyari, arrested for alleged drug trafficking has not been paraded before newsmen.
The agency in a post on its Twitter handle by Femi Babafemi, Director of Media and Advocacy, said it is not the custom of the agency do so.
According to the statement, the anti-narcotics agency only posts photos and videos of some recoveries and suspects so people can see the work they do.
Babafemi was reacting to concerns in some quarters that other suspects are usually paraded by security agencies while in Abba Kyari’s case, such has not been done.
He stated that, “A lot of people are mixing things up here. We do not parade suspects. We have never paraded any suspects. That is the truth. I have never brought any suspects before newsmen.”
The NDLEA image maker stressed that the charges filed against seven persons, including Kyari were not hurriedly put together but filed since February 28, 2022.
According to him, the suspects are due for arraignment in court on March 7, before Court 8 of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
