The Oyo State Government under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde has directed all the 33 Caretaker Chairmen of the 33 local government areas in the state to vacate their offices and formally handover to their respective Heads of Local Government Administrators (HLAs) on Thursday 18th of March, 2021.
The state government through the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, made the disclosure on Wednesday 17 March, via a memo signed by the Ministry’s Commissioner, Chief Bayo Lawal, and made available to journalists in the state.
According to the memo, all the 33 Caretaker chairmen have been directed to officially vacate their offices on Thursday following the expiration of a three months tenure extension by the state House of Assembly which officially terminates on Friday 19th of March 2021 in readiness for the local government elections slated for May 15th, 2021.
“I wish to refer to inform you that following the expiration of the three months tenure extension given to all Caretaker chairmen members by the Oyo State House of Assembly which espires on Friday 19th March, 2021, members of the Committee are to vacate offices latest by Thursday 18th March 2021.
“To this end, in order to ensure continuity in all the Local Government Council in the state, the Caretaker chairmen should hand over the administration to the Heads of Local Government Administration (HLAs) in their respective Councils before vacating their offices.
“Consequently, the Heads of Local Government Administration are hereby directed to take over the administrative running and day to day operations of their respective councils effective from Friday 19th March, 2021 pending the assumption of office by elected officials,” the memo reads.
