Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission has assured the people of Oyo State that the commission would conduct a free and fair by-election into the vacant seats across all Local Governments in the State.
The electoral body also promised stakeholders, especially political parties participating in the elections that no party will be rigged out.
The chairman of the electoral body, Aare Isiaka Abiola Olagunju said this on Friday during a pre-election conference in Ibadan.
Pacesetter news reported that the Chairman, while addressing newsmen assured electorates that OYSIEC will remain neutral, impartial and credible in the execution of its duties during and after the polls coming up on Saturday, May 22, 2021.
He therefore appealed to residents in the state to come out enmasse, assuring them that their votes will count.
The OYSIEC boss noted that the processes leading to the d-day has been transparent, adding that OYSIEC has been working according to the dictates of the law with all stakeholders.
Aare Olagunju called for the cooperation of stakeholders, especially political parties in the state towards the conduct of a peaceful and credible election on May 22.
He stated that non-sensitive and sensitive materials have been distributed early enough to the registration area in each council to avoid delay on the election day.
“OYSIEC has the mandate to conduct a free, fair and credible election in Oyo State to fill the vacuum in each Local Government in the State”.
“We promise to conduct an orderly election in a peaceful atmosphere in the State, so we want to appeal to stakeholders not to fight during the coming election. Let us have a peaceful election in Oyo State”, he said.
