Chief Executive Officer of the AfriWomen for Entrepreneurship Initiative, Mrs. Adebukola Oso, has called on individuals and organisations alike to recognise the invaluable contributions of Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) in Nigeria, Africa and across the globe.
She gave the urge in a press statement issued on Thursday by the Publicity and Visibility Team of AfriWomen at the international headquarters of the organisation, New Bodija, Ibadan, Oyo State in commemoration of this year’s World NGO Day.
The World NGO Day, initiated by Latvian-British philanthropist, Marcis Skadmanis, towards recognising NGO efforts globally, was first officially observed on February 27. 2014, with support from the United Nations, European Union, and other international bodies.
According to Oso, the day “serves as an important reminder of the critical role NGOs have been playing in fostering positive social change and empowering communities.
“World NGO Day, celebrated annually on February 27, provides a platform for acknowledging the tireless efforts of those working within the NGO sector. From grassroots organisations to international nonprofits, these entities are vital in addressing social issues, promoting human rights, and supporting sustainable development across the globe.
“Today, we not only celebrate the achievements of NGOs, but also reflect on the sacrifices and dedication of the individuals who drive these initiatives forward.”
Oso stated that at AfriWomen “we are proud to stand alongside countless organisations advocating women’s entrepreneurship and economic empowerment across Africa. We believe that as we are fostering an environment where women can thrive, we are laying the groundwork for a more equitable society.”
She added that AfriWomen has made significant strides in empowering women entrepreneurs by providing training, mentorship, and access to financial resources saying: “AfriWomen has successfully launched initiatives aimed at enhancing the skills and business acumen of women. We are enabling them to create sustainable livelihoods and enhance their contributions to local economies.
“This year’s theme for World NGO Day is ‘Empowering Grassroots Movements for a Sustainable Future’, which is about collaboration for a better tomorrow. It emphasised the importance of partnerships in amplifying our impact. We encourage other organisations, government bodies, and the private sector to join us in this collaborative spirit. Together, we can build a brighter future for women entrepreneurs. We can equip them with the tools they need to succeed.
“It has become an open secret that the world is increasingly reliant on the transformative power of NGOs. So. AfriWomen stands committed to supporting women as they navigate the challenges of entrepreneurship.
