In a bid to reduce maternal and child mortality, the Rotary E-Club of One Nigeria, District 9126, today carried out a maternal and child health project at Ado Quarters Primary Health Centre, Akala Expressway, Ibadan. The project focused on supporting healthcare delivery through the donation of vital medical items to the facility.
Speaking during the event, Immediate Past President of the Club, Rotarian Ganiyat Tijani, stated that the initiative aims to assist hospitals and community health centres in preventing avoidable deaths during childbirth and the nursing period.
“This effort is part of our club’s commitment to improving maternal and child health, especially at the grassroots,” she said.
In his keynote address, the serving President, Rotarian Ajagun Maam, described Rotary E-Club as a service-driven organization with a passion for giving hope and supporting humanity. He explained that the donation included mosquito nets, maternity birth kits, bedspreads, drugs, malaria test kits and other essential items.
“Our presence here today is part of a broader mission to reach more communities and health centres with life-saving materials,” Rotarian Ajagun noted.
Reacting to the initiative, Chairman of the Ado Quarters Landlords Association, Alhaji Adetunji Akanbi, praised the club’s intervention, describing it as a timely and commendable gesture. He expressed the community’s appreciation and called on other organizations to emulate Rotary’s example.
Also speaking, the Matron of the Health Centre, Mrs. Hellen Aladetuyi, thanked the Rotary E-Club for selecting their facility for the project. She affirmed that the donated materials would significantly enhance service delivery, particularly for expectant and nursing mothers.
The highlight of the event was the official distribution of mosquito nets, birth kits, and bedspreads to the health centre and attendees. In addition, free malaria tests were conducted and drugs were given to pregnant women and nursing mothers present, further emphasizing the club’s commitment to preventive healthcare.
As part of the event, a formal handover ceremony was also conducted, where Rotarian Ganiyat Tijani officially handed over leadership to the incoming President, Rotarian Ajagun Maam marking a smooth transition of service and continuity of Rotary’s mission in the district.
