The race for the 2027 Oyo State governorship election gained fresh momentum on Wednesday as Prince Kunle Musediq Adelakun, popularly known as Eruobodo and Jagunmolu Agbekoya of Yorubaland, formally declared his ambition under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), unveiling a sweeping vision anchored on security, people-centered governance, and the restoration of dignity to traditional institutions.

Addressing party faithful, traditional rulers, and supporters at a declaration event, Adelakun described his ambition as a “divinely inspired mission” to reposition Oyo State and return it to its pride of place as the Pace Setter. Quoting Victor Hugo, he said, “Nothing is more powerful than an idea whose time has come,” adding that the state is ready for purposeful leadership.

Adelakun’s declaration was marked by a strong commitment to tackling insecurity. “I will fight insecurity with my last blood. I will wear a security uniform and lead the charge myself,” he said, noting that his background as Jagunmolu Agbekoya would help strengthen grassroots security and restore safety across the state.

He also pledged to restore dignity and independence to traditional rulers, stating that “the era of ‘Edude Ejoko’—stand up, sit down—will become history. Our traditional rulers are our fathers and deserve respect.” He paid tribute to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja.

Adelakun said his administration would prioritize education, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, and economic growth under a People-Oriented Development agenda. He promised subsidized education up to 200 level, improved healthcare services, and support for farmers to boost food security.

“Our people want basic necessities and responsible governance—and that is what we will deliver,” he said. He also pledged job creation, support for small businesses, and the establishment of a Ministry of Social Welfare to cater for vulnerable groups.

He added that his administration would construct new roads, rehabilitate existing ones, and expand market access across the state.

Adelakun aligned his ambition with the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, expressing confidence in stronger collaboration with the federal government.

With his declaration, Adelakun joins the growing list of aspirants ahead of the 2027 election, stating that his mission is rooted in purposeful leadership and improved welfare for the people of Oyo State.
