The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 11 Headquarters, Osogbo, AIG Bassey Ewah, psc(++), fcai, mspsp, has warned all officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force serving in Zone 11, including the Osun and Oyo State Commands, to remain strictly apolitical and stay clear of partisan politics and beware of getting involved in political activities.
The AIG gave the warning in his statement on Friday, 25th September, 2026, stressing that police officers are expected to be neutral and professional in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities.
The AIG gave the warning as a follow up to the directives given to the all senior police officers by the Inspector General of Police, IGP OLATUNJI RILWAN DISU, PSC(+), NPM during the just concluded CARSPO 2026 conference and retreat for senior police officers in Owerri, Imo State.
The IGP stated that police officers must be apolitical in their conduct at all times and adhere to strict neutrality in the discharge of their duties most especially in the upcoming season of political campaigns and the coming elections of 2027.
He stated that the duty of the Nigeria Police Force is to provide a level playing field for all political actors, ensuring that the rules of engagement and the laws of the land are respected and adhered to by all parties.
The AIG further encouraged politicians across Osun and Oyo States to engage in politics without bitterness, urging them to be peaceful and responsible in their conduct. He further urged the political gladiators in Osun and Oyo to go about the campaigns devoid of rancour, violence or actions capable of threatening public peace and causing a breakdown of law and order, warning that whoever disturbs the peace will face the law.
He reaffirmed the commitment of Zone 11, acting in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, to ensuring that all politicians are able to conduct their campaigns and other political activities peacefully while respecting the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The AIG therefore urged officers and men under his supervision to maintain professionalism, impartiality and discipline at all times, and to refrain from any conduct that could compromise the neutrality and integrity of the Nigeria Police Force.
