The rich history and lineage of the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, have been brought to the big screen with the premiere of “Arusa,” a new film produced by Biodun Eleni, Written by Gbemi Faleti and an intelligent young Nigerian, Miss Fathia Ladoja as the Executive Producer.
The Premiere which commemorated the 82nd Birthday of Oba Ladoja, attracted actors, filmmakers, cultural enthusiasts, Olubadan-In- Council, Wife of Olubadan, Olori Rashidat Olayinka Ladoja and other dignitaries, who gathered at the Emeritus Professor Theophilus Ogunlesi Hall, UCH, Ibadan, Oyo State, to celebrate the film and its portrayal of a story inspired by the lineage of the revered Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja.
The Film, “Arusa” written around the story and heritage associated with the Progenitor of Oba Rashidi Ladoja, offering audiences an opportunity to connect with aspects of Ibadan’s history, traditions and cultural identity through the film.
The Production also highlights the potential of Nollywood and the wider Nigerian creative industry to preserve historical narratives and pass cultural heritage from one generation to another through compelling storytelling.
Speaking on the project, the Producer, Biodun Eleni said, by the film represents an effort to use the creative arts to tell stories rooted in history of Arusa Dynasty and culture, while providing audience with entertainment that carries a deeper cultural message.
The Executive Producer, Miss Fathia Ladoja, also played a significant role in bringing the project to fruition through her curiosity to broaden her knowledge about her lineage history and the name “Arusa” adopted by her father, the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, with the production drawing attention to the importance of documenting and projecting indigenous stories.
She described the production as a significant effort to preserve the family’s legacy and pass its story to younger generations.
Cultural Promoter and Supporter of the Production, who is Wife of Olubadan of Ibadanland, Olori Rashidat Olayinka Ladoja watched the film with keen interest and appreciation, commending the Producers for bringing aspects of the lineage and its historical journey to the screen in a compelling and entertaining manner.
Her presence and support at the film screening underscored her commitment to the preservation and promotion of the Oba Ladoja’s heritage, noting that creative works such as the film “Arusa” would serve as an important platform for documenting history, celebrating cultural identity and ensuring that the contributions and legacy of Ladoja’s family remain relevant to future generations.
The premiere was marked by a red-carpet session, screening of the movie and interactions among members of the cast, crew and invited guests.
