Otunba Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala became Governor of the State on January 12, 2006 following illegal impeachment of his boss, the then Governor Rashidi Ladoja.

He held sway for 11 months as Governor until the Supreme Court quashed Ladoja’s impeachment and he reverted to his deputy’s position.

Months after, he was handed the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) ticket to contest as Governor of the State in 2007. He won and ruled for four years.

His efforts to stage a comeback was thwarted by aggrieved party members, thus paved the way for the then Action Congress of Nigeria candidate, Abiola Ajimobi to win the 2007 gubernatorial election.

Sixteen years after he first ruled the State as Governor, Alao-Akala bidded the world goodbye as he died same day on January 12, 2022 after he reportedly slumped early in the morning of this fateful day.
