Alhassan Yahya, the current Deputy National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), has kicked off his campaign for the union’s presidency with a visit to the Lagos State Council.
Yahya, in the company of Bimbo Oyetunde, a deputy national president candidate of the union and director general of the campaign team, Demola Babalola, while rallying support and votes for their bid at the upcoming ‘Owerri 2024′ NUJ delegates conference, emphasized the need for unity and collective action to address the challenges facing Nigerian journalists.
He said the Alhassan, Abimbola campaign team is working tirelessly to engage with members of the union and share their vision for a stronger and more resilient NUJ.
He said he is in the Lagos council of the union with a message of hope and transformation, which will resonate in his teams line up of programmes when voted in as president of the union at the triennial delegates conference coming up in owerri.
He further revealed that his firm belief in inclusive leadership necessitated his visit to delegates, flagging off from lagos and he’s confident that he can secure the necessary votes to become the next President of the NUJ.
Speaking on some of his areas of strength in trade unionism to include, demonstrated leadership abilities at every step of his career, a staunch advocate for press freedom and journalists’ rights, prioritizing development initiatives and enhancement skills across the ranks of NUJ members and a proven tack record of integrity, honesty, open, fair, and responsible union operations, the presidential candidate, Alhassan Yahyah said, his leadership credentials are impressive and out there for all to see, having demonstrated leadership abilities at every step of his career, from leading his chapel at the Gombe Media Cooperation to serving as the state chairman of the union up to the national level of the union, having being massivey elected as the deputy national president of the union in the past.
Highlight of the flag off ceremony was the unanimous adoption of Alhassan Yahya as the preferred candidate of Lagos council of the union by all members of the Lagos chapel of NUJ without any counter motion, ahead of next month’s election.
