The Yoruba genre of the gospel music industry has been making the rounds lately following a needless review cum evaluation of the lyrical content of a gospel track by one of the industry’s heavyweights.
Evangelist Tope Alabi, who happens to be the accuser mounted the pulpit and diverted her ministration to concentrate on the propriety of a term used by another gospel artist to describe God’s revelation as a ‘Guarantor’.
In an uncanny twist of fate, the covert diatribe at Yinka Alaseyori seemed to have put the latter in the spotlight. I barely knew who she was before the whole impasse but how on earth could anyone have thought such opprobrium would attract the love of many gospel enthusiasts?
Suffice it to say many have lent credence to the revelation of God as a guarantor (Oniduro) and staunchly leapt in her defence. There have also been reservations about Tope Alabi’s referral to the rebuke she earned from the Holy Spirit for using Oniduro in her secret place.
Be that as it may, my grouse has been in the self-righteousness of many Christians who take pleasure in blowing the flaws of others beyond proportion.
Tope Alabi has erred and there is no gainsaying about it. Is that however enough to make her an outcast?
Many Christians have become so judgmental that you would be left to wonder if they would have fared better than the Pharisees and Sadducees who crucified Jesus Christ. Before being an Evangelist, Tope Alabi is human. She is filled with infirmities like any other individual who claims to be born again. The flesh got the better of her and neither you nor I know the status of her fellowship with the Holy Spirit.
Why then should Christians take it as a devotion to bringing her down? It is disheartening that even another popular gospel musician decided to shade Tope Alabi in a ministration which he oversaw on Sunday. Invariably, gospel ministration is now all about throwing banters and coating the things of the Spirit with carnality.
Let he who is without sin be the first to cast the stone
