A newly constituted three-man Caretaker Committee for Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) in Oyo State has pledged their cooperation with the National President of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Chief Chris Iziguso, and National Chairperson of NAWOJ, Aisha Ibrahim Bura.

The Chairperson of the Caretaker Committee, Bola Okanlawon, made the pledge in her acceptance speech after the inauguration of the committee at the NUJ Press Centre, Iyaganku, Ibadan, on Thursday.

The inauguration followed the suspension and dissolution of the Ms. Jadesola Ajibola-led executive of NAWOJ in Oyo State by critical stakeholders in the association over purported gross misconduct, insubordination, hiring of fake journalists, as well as unethical and unprofessional conduct,

Okanlawon said: “I promise, on behalf of the committee, that we won’t exceed three months, given to us by our colleagues to midwife a fresh election to bring forward quality leaders.

“I must also quickly state that the Caretaker Committee will emplace equity, justice and fair play. We shall ensure that Every member has equal stake in NAWOJ”, said Okanlawon, addressing the members of the media.

“The era of minority lording itself over the majority has gone forever,” she added, vowing that never again shall NAWOJ leadership be a one-man show as witnessed in recent time.

“We are ready to unite all NAWOJIANS in Oyo State. The NAWOJ remains baby of NUJ,” said Okanlawon, reassuring all members of the community that the new committee would restore the dignity and honour of the association.
