The Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ), Oyo State Council has cautioned the Nigeria Union of Pensioners(NUP), Oyo State Chapter over its dealing with renegades parading themselves as executives of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) in Oyo State.
This is contained in a statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Ademola Babalola and Secretary, Sola Oladapo.
The union frowned at the NUP’s collaboration with an illegal SWAN body in the state led by one Laolu Fawole to organise a sporting event.
“Our attention has been drawn to a purported indoor games organised by an illegal SWAN led by one Laolu Fawole in collaboration with the state chapter of Nigeria Union of Pensioners(NUP).
“We wonder why the NUP has chosen to relate with renegades within its fold without genuine efforts to ascertain the SWAN from it,” the union said.
It said that the action of the NUP was nothing but a promotion of illegality, describing it as an affront on the union.
The union said that only the Niyi Alebiosu led SWAN is recognised by both the national and state leadership of NUJ.
It dissociated itself from the illegal SWAN led by Fawole and the purported indoor games, saying such would only destroy the existing relationship between the union and NUP.
The NUJ therefore warned the NUP to be guided and not to promote illegality, saying such would affect the mutual relationship that existed between them.
