Wike Faults NBS Data on Unemployment Rate, says he’s Created 100,000 Jobs in Rivers State

By Oluwakemi Ishola

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has rubbished the unemployment rate by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) and claims “it is fake.”

“It is fake; it is political,” Wike said on Friday during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, insisting that “I don’t believe in them. I don’t believe in their statistics.”

The NBS had in August released the country’s unemployment data for the second quarter of 2020, putting Rivers State’s unemployment rate at 43.7 per cent, the third highest in Nigeria.

Although Wike admitted that there is a high-level of unemployment in Nigeria, he claimed that his government has created a lot of jobs, explaining that they might not be in the formal sector.

“If you have a lot of construction jobs going on, for example, does that not create employment?” the former Education Minister wondered.

“Does employment mean you must work in government? Is that what employment means? What counts as employment is that you have something doing. That is key. That is employment.

“There is no employment that is forever. Even you as a Civil servant, it is not forever. You have a time you must leave. Employment does not mean it is something you must do forever.”

“In Rivers State today, nobody can tell me that we have not tried in terms of employment; to reduce the level of unemployment”

On how he got his statistics, he said “By the jobs we have created. You are in Government House now. As you go to the back, you see over 250 people working. That is just one area. And that job has been on for one year. That is not job? It does not give them money to feed? That is one area.

“As you go to Forces Avenue, you see over 100 people working, that is not employment? As you go to Garrison where there is the fly over, you see over 300 people working.”

According to Wike, the “NBS should come to the state and see for themselves and see what we are doing to create jobs. Not just sitting in their offices. They never deployed anybody to come here.”

While calling on the NBS to visit Rivers State and get facts about employment in the State, Wike disclosed that his government has been able to create over 100,000 jobs since inception in 2015.

“I may not be exact but I do know that since we came on board, we have created not less than 100, 000 jobs,” Wike who is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) explained. “If you go to our Statistics department, you will find out that these things are there.”

FG puts up presidential jet for sale, as market value drops from $22.91m to $4.03m after 9years

By Oluwakemi Ishola

Federal government of Nigeria has announced the sale of a jet in its presidential fleet, Hawker 4000 aircraft with registration number, 5N-FGX/: RC 066.

The business-sized jet which was bought at $22.91 million is currently estimated at $4.03 million, according to a global aviation resource.

The advert which was published in several national dailies revealed that the aircraft has a range of 3,190-nautical miles and had flown for 1,768 hours was entered into the service in 2011. It also has a capacity for nine passengers and three crew members.

“Please note that all bids must be submitted within one week of this publication. A background check is required as a pre-qualification for the bid. Prospective bidders who want to inspect the aircraft will be granted access within one week from this advertisement,” the advert read.

It said the aircraft could be inspected at the Presidential Air Fleet’s hangar located at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja as prospective buyers were directed to submit a refundable bank draft for $50,000 to the committee with the bid.

Interested buyers were requested to submit their closed bid to the Chairman, Committee for Sale of Aircraft, Office of the National Security Adviser, care of Special Services Office, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

Findings by The ICIR show that 73 units of Hawker 4000 aircraft were manufactured by Hawker Beechcraft Corporation between 2001 and 2013 until they ceased production and they were sold for $22.91 million each as of 2012.

However, Hawker 4000 aircraft currently sells for 17.62 per cent of its original price which is $4.03 million and the price is expected to fall further according to jet sales websites.

This indicates that the current market value, when compared to its initial listing price, had fallen by 82.41 per cent.

The drop in the value of Hawker 4000 aircraft is attributed to bankruptcy faced by Hawker Beechcraft Corporation as it ceased further production which had led to an inability to complete subsequent upgrades and enhancement programme on the Hawker 4000.

In 2016, President Muhammadu Buhari had put up for sale two presidential aircraft, a Falcon 7X executive jet and Hawker 4000 arguing that aircraft in the Presidential Air Fleet should be reduced to cut down on waste.

It was also announced that some aircraft in the fleet would be handed over to the Nigeria Air Force for its operations. It could not be confirmed if this had been done.

According to the Presidency, the PAF has 10 aircraft and they include Boeing Business Jet (Boeing 737-800 or Air Force One), one Gulfstream 550, one Gulfstream V (Gulfstream 500), two Falcons 7X, one Hawker Sidley 4000, two AgustaWestland AW 139 helicopters and two AgustaWestland AW 101 helicopters.

Reports said each of the two Falcon 7X jets was purchased in 2010 for $51.1 million, while the Gulfstream 550 costs $53.3 million.

EDO 2020: Wike Attributes PDP Victory to Visa Ban on Riggers

By Oluwakemi Ishola

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has said that the international community played a huge role in ensuring a smooth governorship election in Edo State.

Speaking on Channels TV’s Sunrise Daily on Friday, the governor explained that threatening to place a visa ban on anyone found guilty of rigging, forced people to act appropriately.

“One thing that played out and which I noticed was the role of the international community. For example, the US, the UK came out and said that there would be a visa ban if anybody tries anything in terms of violence or rigging and they have gone further to ban some governors,” he said.

JUST IN: Gov. Fayemi Suspended for Anti-party Activities – Ekiti APC faction

By Oluwakemi Ishola

The crisis rocking Ekiti State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken another dimension, as a faction led by Senator Tony Adenine suspended Governor Kayode Fayemi for alleged anti-party activities.

Senator Adeniyi, who represented Ekiti South Senatorial District between 2011 and 2015, was said to have been made Acting Chairman of the State Executive Committee (SEC) owing to what was described as the “absence of direction or directive from the National Body” and was adjudged as “the only one thus capable to call the SEC meeting as duly required by the constitution from henceforth.”

Recall APC Ekiti State, on Thursday, indefinitely suspended a presidential adviser, Senator Babafemi Ojudu, and 10 other party leaders for allegedly disobeying the directive of the party’s National Executive Committee.

State Publicity Secretary of the APC, Ade Ajayi, said this in a letter titled, ‘Indefinite suspension of some members of Ekiti State Chapter of APC’, dated September 23 and made available to journalists in Ado Ekiti on Thursday.

Apart from Ojudu, other affected members are the son-in-law to Senator Bola Tinubu, Oyetunde Ojo; former governorship aspirant, Dr Wole Oluyede; Ayo Ajibade; Femi Adeleye; Bunmi Ogunleye; Akin Akomolafe; Bamigboye Adegoroye; Olusoga Owoeye; Dele Afolabi; and Toyin Oluwasola.

However, Senator Adeniyi-led Ekiti APC faction fought back by suspending Governor Fayemi. According to a statement made available to journalists on Friday, the SEC meeting in which Fayemi was suspended, was held on Wednesday, September 23, 2020, in accordance with Section 12.8 of APC Constitution.

Read the full statement:

RE: DR. KAYODE FAYEMI ANTI – PARTY ACTIVITIES

After painstakingly reviewing the activities of some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State, we the authentic members of the Party in the State and Members of State Executive Committee per Section 12.8 of APC Constitution being duly constituted members of the National Convention of the Party, rose from its meeting of the 23rd September, 2020 and resolved as follows:

1. We note the continued illegalities in the name of the party, being conducted by Dr. Kayode Fayemi, who as Governor is an ordinary member of the SEC and ought to have called meetings of this duly constituted body as a critical party organ, has failed to do so since his assumption of office in 2018.

2.That the body currently masquerading as the elected members of the SEC or as the State Working Committee or appendages is unknown to us (as due statutory members of SEC) since no Ward Congress has taken place in Ekiti State APC since inception. All SEC members listed in Section 12.8 of our constitution, (i) to (xxvii) as such are open positions since only duly officiated Ward congresses with INEC observation can fill these positions.

3.As such, only the duly elected members of the APC in the state serving as Governor, Deputy Governor, Speaker & Deputy Speaker as well as Principal Officers of the House and Members of the National Convention which includes all present and past National Assembly members today constitute the State SEC of our great party.

4.To this end, in the absence of a properly organized body and meeting, and the continued insistence of the Governor to neglect his duty to initiate Ward Congresses or call a meeting of the SEC to deliberate upon pertinent issues, we as loyal members of our party and members of the State Executive Committee met to rescue our party from continued denigration and abuse, and resolved thus:

1.That Dr. Kayode Fayemi, the Executive Governor of Ekiti State is hereby suspended from the Party in view of his numerous anti-Party activities especially his role in the recent concluded governorship election in Edo State which is contrary to the provisions of Article 21 (A) (ii) of the APC Constitution.
For five days prior to the Edo elections Gov Fayemi hosted PDP big wig Mr Femi Fani- Kayode in the government house in Ado Ekiti in the run up to the Edo elections . It was here they perfected the coup against our party in Edo State. This is same Fani-Kayode who daily abuses President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, the APC as a party as well a vital section of our country. We have evidence of that meeting.

Fani-Kayode specifically said he has gone on his tour as part of an effort between him and Fayemi to build a cross-party alliance and few hours after leaving Ekiti he fired a shot at Asiwaju Tinubu.

1 (a) We also have evidence of celebration by his aides in Ekiti government house and on social media.

1(b) We also recall his role in the gubernatorial election in Oyo State where he supported the PDP candidate to defeat the APC candidate. A second tranche of money he sent to Gov Makinde in the election was intercepted by soldiers. The courier Mr Ayo Adegbite, his Chief Protocol Officer was arrested and he immediately disowned and announced his sack . Mr Adegbite remains his aide till date.

1(c) We also recall the support he provided a PDP candidate who challenged an APC Senator Prince Dayo Adeyeye in the Tribunal. He moved the judges to Kaduna to deliver judgement when he knew what he planned against his party was unpopular in Ekiti. We have more to tell on this betrayal and traitorous act of his. APC Senator is out of the Senate today and PDP is in. The relationship between Fayemi and Senator Olujimi of PDP , the beneficiary of his treachery is known to all in Ekiti State.

We also recall his resort to court when majority of party members nominated late Senator Abiola Ajimobi for Deputy National Chairman of the party. He fought Ajimobi till death.

1(d) His fraternisation with the PDP in continuation of his bid for Vice Presidential candidate under the party ( if his bid for Presidential candidate in APC fails ) was masked by commissioning of projects in Rivers State, a smokescreen for his consultation to woo the support of Governor Nyesom Wike last year .

2. That the Paul Omotosho led faction of APC Executive in the State is hereby declared illegal and suspended from the Party for failure to emerge in accordance to the Constitution of the Party.

3.That Paul Omotoso and his co travellers’s refusal to respect court proceedings in which they are not only joined but appeared in court through the proceedings but defiantly disrespected the court contrary to the hallowed decision of the Supreme Court in OJUKWU vs GOVERNOR OF LAGOS STATE

4.That Paul Omotosho faction of the executive should desist from parading themselves as the Executive Members of the Party in the State and that the Nigerian Police and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the general public should take note.

5.That Senator Tony Adeniyi, as a statutory member of the SEC going by our party’s constitution, was elected by all members attending as the Acting Chairman of the State Executive Committee in the absence of direction or directive from the National Body. He is as such the only one thus capable to call the SEC meeting as duly required by the constitution from henceforth.

6.The committee seating also agreed to begin bridge building across our members, statewide and nationally, and set up a special intervention committee, APC Majeobaje Working Group, to be led by Prince Bamgboye Adegoroye, and six other individuals from across our great state. That working group will henceforth do the hard work of rebuilding APC in Ekiti state and prevent the oncoming annihilation of our party if we take no action at the upcoming polls.

We note that the All Progressives Congress is a party of progressives, and must do things only in line with the law. The APC cannot act against its constitution or the law of the land, hence this intervention became urgently necessary and pertinent before marauders destroy the party permanently.

It must be emphasized that with the increasingly discerning capacity and sophistication of our people we cannot afford to take them for granted. We must be able to sustain the relevance of our party in Ekiti State, hold our members and win new members. We are obligated to ensure that the light of our electoral prospect and fortune is not dimmed or extinguished.

Signed:
For Ekiti State APC State Executive Committee

1. Senator Tony Adeniyi
⁃ Senator , Ekiti South Senatorial District (2011 – 2015)

2. Senator Babafemi Ojudu
⁃ Senator , Ekiti Central Senatorial District ( 2011 – 2015 )

Oyo Mobile Training Clinic To Promote Efficiency – HOS

By Oluwakemi Ishola

Oyo State Head of Service Mrs Ololade Agboola has said that the Mobile Training Clinic organized by the government, through her office was targeted at promoting efficiency among civil servants in the State.

She said the present administration in the State has been putting all welfare packages in place for the workforce of the State to alleviate the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Agboola made this known during the second edition of the Mobile Training programme held at the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology Secretariat Ibadan, the State capital.

She disclosed that the training programme was expected to re-orientate and inculcate the best in the civil and public servants in the State, noting that no organisation could raise its performance above the quality of its human resources.

The HOS hinted that Governor Seyi Makinde had approved several training programmes for all cadres of the workforce through the Ministry of Establishment and Training, Teaching Service Commission while Permanent Secretaries in the State have also took part in federal government organized trainings.

“The need to promote efficiency and reinforce commitment to service among the workforce led to the organization of this special mobile training programme, it is the believe of the government, as led by governor Seyi Makinde that this will have multiple positive effects on the individuals involved and the working environment.

“Like every other sector, education has been given paramount attention by this administration as it has 23 percent of the 2020 budget, this is a result of the peculiarity of education system in Oyo State and the priorities placed on it by the present administration, let me inform you that His Excellency, Governor, Seyi Makinde will never tolerate any act of indiscipline from officers in the Ministry or any other agency of the government.”

She charged civil servants to see hardwork as a culture and always obey their principals without being sycophant.

However, former Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance Dr. Toyin Adeleye in his lecture titled ‘Sustaining Ethical Conduct, Discipline and Integrity in the Civil/Public Service’, admonished civil servants to always be punctual at their work place and improve their service delivery to the society.

Former Chief Medical Director, University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan and Vice Chairman State Task Force on Covid-19 Professor Temitope Alonge in his Paper titled ‘Effective Service Delivery, Stress and Complaints in the post Covid -19 Environment’, urged civil servants to adapt to what he called the ‘new normal’ in the new ways of doing things while discharging their duties in various Ministries, departments and agencies.

Former Head of Service, Oyo State Mrs Abosede Obileye in her lecture titled ‘Quality Control in School Administration’ enjoined government to review the process of establishment of private schools, monitor their activities and regular inspection of all schools, as she said these would improve the standard of education in the State.

In his remarks, the State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Barrister, Olasunkanmi Olaleye, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs Aminat Atere, commended the ingenuity of the Head of Service for putting the training together at such crucia time for the benefit of both public and civil servants, hinting that passing the baton of success to upcoming officers was a way of planning for the future.

ADELABU @50: I’ve Learnt from my Guber Loss; I’ll Dislodge Makinde in 2023

Peter Ayoade, Ibadan

The 2019 governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State – Chief Adebayo Adelabu Penkelemes has declared that he is happy that he didn’t win last year’s gubernatorial elections against the incumbent Governor Seyi Makinde. He vowed to dislodge the governor in 2023.

Former Deputy Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria disclosed this in Ibadan on Thursday, during a media parley and lunch with journalists in commemoration of his 50th birthday anniversary.

According to Oloye Adelabu, losing the election has afforded him opportunity of knowing more about how progressive family in Oyo state operate.

In his words, “I will be a better governor in 2023 than 2019 because I have become wiser politically, closer to party leaders and grassroots politics. I can now relate well with the party faithfuls.

“My interest in contesting is existing and will never die. I’m so confident and optimistic we shall dislodge PDP-led government in Oyo State come 2023. With the ongoing reconciliation process within Oyo APC, no party can stand the way of APC, come 2023”.

Oloye Adelabu while reiterating his commitment to a better Oyo State, described Engr Seyi Makinde’s administration as lacking foresight.

Reacting to the performance of the Makinde-led administration, Oloye Adelabu said nothing reasonable has been done since Makinde was inaugurated as the state governor.

According to him, “everything PDP government has been doing is not directly beneficial to the masses. A good government must understand the needs of the people which the current administration has failed to do. Philantropy is good but it should not be a basis for selecting a leader”

“It is evident that I will remove Makinde in 2023. He lacks ideas. Everything this administration promised the people of the state is still on their wish list 16 months after coming on board. With the calibre of people that have returned to APC, no party can stand the way of our party,” he said.

Adelabu stated further that no state needs a governor before salary is paid. “When salary is paid through statutory allocations and it goes straight to the Accountant General, they take it to the bank and they pay. Why must that be the major achievement of any governor?” he stressed.

“Makinde is decieving people with his populist programmes, which, in most cases, are not always giving the state sustainable development, it is more about immediate consumption. Populist programmes are short-lived. Within a short period, people will know that this man doesn’t really have so much to offer in terms of sustainable infrastructural development”.

Adelabu, who promised to come back with full force vowed to dislodge the current government noted that the factors that led to Makinde’s emergence are no longer available couple with the caliber of people that are in APC which will ease the taking over of government from PDP.

The Parakoyi of Ibadan land was full of thanks to God for sparing his life to reach 50 years, noting that his grandfather, Adegoke Adelabu and father AbdulRauf Adelabu, both died aged 43 and 33 respectively.

PHOTOS: Makinde Sets to Revive Pacesetter Fruit Juice Company, Handover to Investor

Oyo State governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, on Thursday, officially kickstarted the process of reviving the moribund Pacesetter Fruit Processing Company, Oko, when he handed it over to AGVEST Limited.

The event, which took place at the premises of the company in Oko, Surulere South Local Council Development Area, was attended by government functionaries, traditional rulers and chairmen of all local governments and local council development areas in Ogbomosoland.

While performing the handover ceremony, Governor Makinde maintained that the revival of the company will bring economic development to the state.

He said: “I am happy to be here in Oko this afternoon. When I was in Tampa, Florida, earlier this year to preach Oyo State to the world, I stated that there are big opportunities in Oyo State and it was not an exaggeration.

“Oyo State is truly blessed with an abundance of human and natural resources. “So, our job, quite frankly, is to annex the abundant resources for the benefit of our people.”

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, indicated that the Governor Makinde administration has embarked on massive resuscitation of moribund state-owned companies and other facilities through Public-Private Partnership arrangements and concessionaires.

The statement noted that the resuscitation of the Pacesetter Asphalt and Quarry Limited, Ijaiye, the handover of moribund Agbowo Shopping Complex, Ibadan, which will now be turned to a state of the art commercial real estate facility and a 4-star hotel were among some of the steps already taken by the government to expand the economy of the state.

Speaking during the handover, the governor said that his administration has been getting results in terms of economic expansion, because it has created a conducive environment for businesses to thrive.
He said: “Today, we are here to welcome another investor into our midst. We are bringing to life another company that has been moribund for almost a decade, Pacesetter Fruits Processing Limited. This company was established during the administration of former governor, Senator Rashidi Ladoja in 2007.

“However, it never commenced operation. And as I have always stated, government is a continuum and our administration will ensure that people in Oyo State benefit from abandoned or moribund projects to which the funds of the state have been committed.

“They did not use anybody’s father’s money. They used Oyo State money to set this up. So, the state must derive value from the money they have put into this.

“The state government has no business in running businesses. Businesses should be left in the hands of corporate organisations who know how to run them and make a profit. The role of government is to create an enabling environment so that more of the private entities will be attracted to the state. And this is exactly what we are doing in Oyo State. As you can see, we are getting results.

“Also, we have to be competitive and be able to bring the product out of here in a competitive manner. So, what the government will do is to ensure the road networks, electricity supply and security are worked upon so that the private companies will function better.”

The governor added that the government has been open and transparent in its activities, stating that anyone interested in doing business with the state should not shy away from applying, as the processes will always be transparent.

“I want to let the people know we are not running a ‘padi-padi’ government. I am meeting the investor for the first time here. So, you don’t need to know the governor to tap into any opportunity that exists in Oyo State.

“When they advertise, apply if you have the requirement and I will ensure that the process is transparent and fair. In this case, we have attracted Messrs AGVEST Ltd, who will be working with the Oyo State government on this project. This PPP is built on an equity structure model.”

He noted that the investor has promised to inject N350 Million into the project and that it would be completed within six months, adding that it will create more job opportunities for the people of the state.

“Like the MD of AGVEST said, they will be creating between 50 and 75 direct jobs. We will continue to encourage and support investors to come to our state. Producers of our famous Ogbomoso mango will also have indigenous off-takers for our fruits now. They will not only be producing mango juice but also cocktails of juice. They will be producing 2,500 bottles per hour,” the governor added.

Earlier, the Director-General, Oyo State Investment and Public Private Partnership Agency, Hon. Segun Ogunwuyi said that the Pacesetter Fruits Processing Factory, Oko was commissioned in 2007 but became moribund afterwards.

He stated that the governor mandated his agency to revive it for the socio-economic benefits of the state, explaining that the revival of the factory will afford the state many benefits, including prevention of post-harvest losses and wastage of fruits produced in the state.

He also said that the revival of the fruit company will help improve the economy of the indigenous farmers in the state and create jobs for the youths.

While speaking, the Managing Director, AGVEST Limited, Mr. Olabode George, said the company intends to add value to the economy of the state and turn the state to a hub of fruit juice in the country.
“Our focus is on Oyo State because we live here. Coming to the Pacesetter Fruit Processing Company that is being handed to us today, our intention is to produce fruit juice for mango, pineapple, orange and fruit cocktail. Because of the abundance of fruits in this locality, we also intend to produce jams that will make it easier.

“We will generate waste from all the production we are going to be doing. We intend to produce organic fertilizers from the waste that will be generated. And we will push this fertilizer to market.

“In all, we will be able to add 50-75 direct jobs and put 500-550 indirect jobs out. By the time the governor comes here for formal commissioning, we expect that we will have done a lot of work on the physical structure of the property. We will be importing a fruit juice lime from India, which is coming in here.

“We believe we will add value to not only the host community but also to the economy of the state in terms of what we do. We also believe we should give back to the host community where we work,” he said.

In their separate remarks, the caretaker chairman of Surulere South Local Council Development Area, Hon. Gbadamosi Morufu and the Oloko of Okoland, Oba Solomon Olagoke, appreciated the governor for reviving the moribund factory, which they noted will contribute immensely to the economic development of Okoland and the entire Oyo State at large.

Nigeria at 60: Celebration Will Be Low-Key – Lai Mohammed

By Oluwakemi Ishola

The Federal Government has revealed that the nation’s 60th independence anniversary celebration will be low-key due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, disclosed this while briefing journalists on Thursday, in Abuja.

He adds that the Federal Government has since approved a list of activities scheduled to hold till the end of September 2021 to commemorate Nigeria’s diamond jubilee anniversary

He however faulted the argument by some schools of thought who believe that there is no reason to celebrate Nigeria at sixty, considering the myriads of challenges facing the country.

He insisted that the answer to that argument is contained in the theme for the celebration, which emphasises togetherness.

The logo and theme which will be used in the celebration the Diamond Jubilee was unveiled last week by President Muhammadu Buhari during the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

The theme of this year’s celebration is Togetherness.

ONDO 2020: PDP Asks Buhari to Intervene on Akeredolu’s ‘Reign Of Terror’ In Ondo

By Oluwakemi Ishola

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene in the security situation in Ondo state ahead of a governorship election on October 10.

According to a letter signed by the party’s spokesman in Ondo, Kennedy Ikantu Peretei, and obtained by Pacesetter News on Thursday, the PDP accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of permitting electoral violence in the state.

“Only on Tuesday, September 22, these thugs unleashed violence on the people during Akeredolu’s campaign in Idanre,” the PDP’s letter said.

The PDP insisted that the people of Ondo will resist any form of vote manipulation on election day.

“We urge you to halt the onslaught on the opposition and people of Ondo State by Governor Akeredolu and his army of political thugs,” the PDP told Buhari.

Read the full version of the letter:

Over the past few weeks, we have noticed to our consternation, the culpability of the security chiefs in Ondo State in the mayhem perpetrated by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Governor Rotimi Akeredolu in Ondo State during the ongoing campaign season. They have been giving free access to the political thugs assembled to maim and kill the people of Ondo State in order to achieve a desired political objective. Indeed, we believe that there is complicity involving even the Inspector General of Police and some service chiefs.

Everywhere Akeredolu goes to campaign, about five or six buses loaded with political thugs, wielding guns accompany him. Only on Tuesday, September 22, these thugs unleashed violence on the people during Akeredolu’s campaign in Idanre. The story has been the same anywhere he goes, be it Akure or Ondo town. If care is not taken, there will be genocide in Ondo State. Mr President, all the petitions that have been written in relation to this naked orgy of violence unleashed on the peace-loving people of Ondo State by a government elected to protect their lives and properties have been ignored by the service chiefs.

We also bring to your attention the culpability of the governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Kayode Fayemi, in the whole saga. We have it on record that following Akeredolu’s invitation to the DG, DSS over the violence recorded at a campaign in Ondo State, Fayemi led him to the DSS boss and other service chiefs. The objective, we learnt, was to soften the ground for him so as to continue his reign of terror in Ondo State. We have also learnt of their plan to repaint campaign vehicles and brand them as observers’ vehicles during the election, so that these vehicles can be used to convey weapons to actualize their rigging plan. It is ironic that the same Fayemi that many people stood in defence of when he alleged that violence was being unleashed on his campaign team in the past is now the arrowhead of a plot to take over Ondo State by force.

Right now, a lot of people have been maimed and injured. Petitions to the federal authorities have yielded nothing, not even the promise of investigation. We want Your Excellency to be aware of these atrocities committed under your watch. We are also asking the International Community to note these atrocities. The 1983 violence that engulfed Ondo State must not be allowed to re-occur.

Our people will resist imposition and manipulation of votes with every legitimate means. It would be terrible for violence to engulf Ondo State under your tenure. Because of APC’s failure in Ondo State, there is a desperation to make the October governorship election in Ondo State a do-or-die affair. Given Your Excellency’s professed commitment to free and fair polls in the wake of the just concluded governorship election in Edo State, we urge you to halt the onslaught on the opposition and people of Ondo State by Governor Akeredolu and his army of political thugs.

Signed
Kennedy Ikantu Peretei
Publicity Secretary, PDP, Ondo State

JUST IN: Tearful Suarez Says Goodbye To Barca Ahead Of Atletico Switch

By Oluwakemi Ishola

Luis Suarez cried as he bid farewell to Barcelona on Thursday but said he wants to prove he can still deliver at the highest level after joining La Liga rivals Atletico Madrid.

With Lionel Messi at Camp Nou for his best friend’s final press conference, Suarez said an emotional goodbye after scoring 198 goals for Barca, becoming the third-highest goalscorer in the history of the club.

“This is improvised because I have nothing prepared,” Suarez said wiping his eyes, having been introduced by the club’s president Josep Maria Bartomeu.

The 33-year-old’s move to Atletico on a two-year contract had been confirmed late on Wednesday night. Atletico have signed Suarez for free but could pay Barcelona 6 million euros ($6.9 million) in variables.

“I feel I’m capable of continuing to compete in this league,” Suarez said. “I feel very eager and even more after the last year we had, when I had my injury, which also leaves you with a bittersweet feeling.

“I am going the way I’m going to keep playing, with fresh motivation, with the objective to show I can continue competing.”

Suarez follows Arturo Vidal, Nelson Semedo and Ivan Rakitic through the exit door at Barcelona, where new coach Ronald Koeman has been tasked with renovating the squad.

Koeman told Suarez in August he was not part of the club’s plans.

“I expected it because it had been said already before the coach told me but I can accept it,” he said.

“When Barca told me they weren’t counting on me, there were many calls, many offers, but I was able to go to a team that can compete as equals with two great teams like Barcelona and Real Madrid. I had no doubts.”

Suarez will go down as one of Barcelona’s greatest ever players after helping them win four La Liga titles and a Champions League.

But his departure has not been smooth, with the club keen to push the Uruguayan out but reluctant to let him join Atletico.

“Players sometimes need a change, the club needed a change and this case the coach didn’t want me,” Suarez said. “I leave with the feeling that I have fulfilled expectations. To be the third highest scorer is not easy at all, it’s something I could never have imagined.”

Suarez’s departure could affect Messi’s future given the pair are neighbours and best friends. There have been reports in Spain suggesting Messi and Suarez’s friendship was no longer considered beneficial to the team.

“It’s been a crazy month,” said Suarez. “Things have been invented, things that are not true that have been leaked and that annoy you but we have to try to stay away from all that.

“Everyone knows the relationship I have with Leo. When you arrive at Barcelona they say to be careful with Leo and now after many years, Leo and I get along spectacularly and they say you are bad for him.

“We know the time we had in the team and that we tried to perform at our best and live up to what Barcelona is and in my case, I can leave feeling proud.”

2023: CPPG Asks Political Parties to Concede Presidency to Yoruba, says OBJ was Northern President

By Oluwakemi Ishola

….Urges Makinde to fulfill his promises

An appeal has gone to all political parties in Nigeria that they should select Yoruba candidates for the 2023 presidential election in the country as they argue that former President Olusegun Obasanjo was a northern candidate.

This was made known in Ibadan after the federal constituency meeting of the Coalition of Political Parties and Group in Oyo State under the leadership of Prince Tunji Adeoye, a veteran Journalist.

Prince Adeoye, through the Media Secretary of the group, Mr. Maruf Bello, said that former President Olusegun Obasanjo was a president latched on the Yoruba between 1999 and 2007 by the Northern oligarchy, stressing that Chief Obasanjo was not the collective choice of genuine Yorubas and that was the reason no serious development projects were executed in the South-West zone under his rule.

Meanwhile, the leader of the group sadly noted that Engr. Seyi Makinde had refused to appreciate the CPPG’s efforts towards the governor’s victory 2019. The group therefore charged Governor Makinde to fulfill the promises he made to its members in the build up to the last year gubernatorial elections.

While condemning Obasanjo Presidency, Prince Adeoye said that existing viable projects in the West were executed by late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, late Chief Ladoke Akintola, late Sir Adegoke Adelabu “Pekelemesi” and other true Yoruba leaders.

“Of reference are the Lagos-Ibadan expressway which has not been improved since 1979 and Ibadan – Abeokuta road approved to be dualised under the regime of Chief Obasanjo which undone till date.”

“People in the other regions in Nigeria benefited more from Obadanjo government than his kinsmen because he was nominated and sponsored for presidency in 1999 by Northern leaders” Adeoye stressed.

The CPPG therefore enjoined all political parties in Nigeria to choose Yoruba as their candidates for accelerated infrastructural development in the entire South-West zone and other regions in the country.

The group while appreciating President Muhammadu Buhari for appointing Mr. Sunday Dare as Minister of Youth and Sports, congratulated Dr. Akinwumi Adesina for his second term victory as the President of African Development Bank (AfDB).

Prince Adeoye concluded by charging his members to start shopping and mobilizing responsible trustworthy individuals for the 2023 election.
