Providence Coalition, a sociopolitical organisation responsible for the entrenchment of good leadership and egalitarian society, has addressed the circumstances surrounding the making of a video by persons dissatisfied with their chances of success in an open contest at the senatorial primaries for the Oyo South Senatorial ticket that was slated to hold on Saturday May 28, 2022.
The said persons orchestrated the making of the video with the intent to embarrass and blackmail Senator Kola Balogun, the incumbent senator of the senatorial district because they are intimidated by his popularity and acceptability.
The President, Providence Coalition, Prince Adeniran Adeyoju explained, “It is obvious that the people shouting and calling the distinguished senator derogatory names, as well as those who documented the video and made it available to the public, are those who have come to the realization that they do not have the political dexterity and popular appeal to follow through in the electoral process and secure the senatorial ticket in contention.
“The scenario was similar to that which obtained at the venue of the accreditation exercise for the gubernatorial primaries, where persons undocumented and unlisted in the delegates list swarmed the venue and attempted to derailed the process by shouts, hoots and calling every perceived antagonist derogatory names.
In his reaction after the incident recorded in the video, Senator Kola Balogun said, “What happened today is similar to what happened the other day at the stadium when they have a weak aspirant and they resorted to intimidation and attempted to frustrate the process”.
“With the circumstances which led to the making of the video thus explained, Providence Coalition will like to advise and appeal to the general public to disregard the video and defeat its malicious intent. Furthermore, politicians should focus more on the advancement of democracy and a deepening of the democratic process rather than be obsessed with the politics of bitterness”, Prince Adeyoju concluded.
