Scores of people have staged a protest in Ibadan, Oyo state capital, in reaction to the raid by the Department of State Services (DSS) on the home of Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho.
Recall that Igboho’s residential house at Soka in Ibadan was raided on July 1, with two occupants killed. Although, he escaped arrest by the DSS operatives, 13 persons found in his house were reportedly whisked away after the raid and later paraded in Abuja.
The protesters on Wednesday marched to Igboho’s house and subsequently walked through major roads in Ibadan before visiting the palace of Oba Saliu Adetunji, the Olubadan of Ibadanland.
Most of them were dressed in black outfits as the Lagos-Ibadan expressway was briefly blocked before moving on to Challenge, Molete and other areas of the city.
It was gathered that the protesters included family members of those arrested and paraded by the DSS.
They condemned the raid on Igboho’s house, describing it as “illegal, sad, barbaric and a return to authoritarian rule”, while demanding for the release of those who were arrested.
