We will be committed to maximum protection of Oyo workers’ interest -New Oyo NLC Chairman

The newly appointed Oyo State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Kayode Martins has said that the major focus of his administration would be to protect the interests of Oyo workers in the state and to enhance the peaceful existing atmosphere laid as foundation by his predecessor.

The assurances were made by the NLC boss while addressing the press men after the exchange of baton between him and his predecessor, Comrade Bayo Titilola-Sodo who was recently appointed a Permanent Secretary by Governor Seyi Makinde.

The exchange of baton programme was held at the Secretariat of the NLC at Labour House, American Quarters, Agodi, Ibadan, on Thursday.

In his acceptance speech, Comrade Martins said the major focus of his administration would be welfare of Oyo workers.

Martins stated, ā€œHaving been elected to lead the Oyo workers, we will try as much as possible to be good ambassadors, and the workers will be highly motivated to put their best in their respective place of primary assignment.ā€

He declared that job security and wellbeing of the stateā€™s workers would continue to take precedence under his watch and pleaded for maximum cooperation from the workers.

The chairman affirmed, ā€œTo maintain a cordial relationship between the labour union and Makinde-led government. What this office means to me is service in the struggle towards actualising improved welfare for workers, and will make sure that the workers’ needs are fought for. My predecessor has done his best to achieve this and we will consolidate on his good legacies.ā€

The new Chairman, Martins was unanimously appointed from among two other Vice-chairmen in the State, in an acting capacity, to complete the tenure of the former Chairman which will lapse in April 2023.

He however lauded Governor Makinde for his kind gesture to promote Comrade Titilola-Sodo as pioneer Permanent Secretary in the State Local Government Staff Pensions Board (OYSLGSPB).
