Yahya’s Victory: A New Era for Nigeria Union of Journalists

Alhassan Yahaya has emerged as the new President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

He defeated his closest rival, Dele Atunbi, with 436 votes to Atunbi’s 97 votes. Mohammed Garba came third with 39 votes.

Mrs. Abimbola Oyetunde was elected Deputy National President unopposed, while Mrs. Ronke Afebioye Samo was re-elected unopposed as Vice President Zone B. Comrade Victor Ndukwe was also returned unopposed as National Treasurer.

The election was conducted amidst tight security, with Comrade Mike Ikeogwu as Chairman of the electoral committee.

In his remarks, President-elect Yahya Alhassan thanked delegates and observers from across Nigeria for their support. He promised to take the journalism profession to new heights and prioritize his members’ welfare.
