Scores of community elders, opinion moulders and clerics paid solidarity visits to a gubernatorial aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Oyo state, Chief Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli at his Samonda campaign office and pledged their support towards the aspiration of the erstwhile Secretary to the State Government.

Their spokesman, Elder Samuel Agboola said they were in Alli’s office to associate with his aspiration and let the world know that people are ready ‘to solidly vote for him if he eventually emerges as the ADC candidate in the coming primaries.’

The visibly elated Alli in his response said he was highly honoured by the endorsement of his aspiration from wide range of people in Ibadanland especially ‘the calibre of great men here which cuts across all the 11 local governments in this city’.

Said Alli: ‘I feel honoured that our fathers could pay this solidarity visit to us at this crucial stage of our electioneering. With your prayers and continuous support, God will take us there and we will not disappoint you.’

Alli also stressed that the best mode of governance in modern times is the integration of community development system which will take into consideration the believes and the aspirations of the grassroot people.

“In the full spirit of participatory democracy,” Alli remarked, ‘communities should be the center of attraction, they know where the shoe pinches, they understand the roads that are bad, they know the state of the health centers, their children are in the badly managed schools, and it is not just that they know, they have the appropriate solutions.

“I know all these because I have, for years, been a part of community development programmes and I have come to terms to the reason why governance fails, it is because those who have been leading us in recent times have never been part of us.

“Imagine someone who studied abroad, worked abroad and coming from the blues to determine our fate, what does he know about the feelings of people living in the countryside? This is why it is in our agenda to fashion out a ministry that will adequately address community development in our state.”

Alli, a lawyer who was accompanied to the meeting by his Media aide, Comrade Taiwo Ibrahim, also a community leader himself told his guests that communities too have an important role to play in the emergence of candidates that will recognize their importance in the scheme of things in the state.
