The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakunlehin (Ige Olakunlehin 1), has appealed to market traders at Bola Ige International Market to remain patient and law-abiding.
The monarch made this statement while receiving traders at his new palace in Oke Are, Ibadan, emphasizing the importance of peaceful coexistence in Ibadanland.
Oba Olakunlehin praised the traders for embarking on a peaceful protest and not taking the law into their hands.
Speaking through Senior Chief Raifu Amusa Eleruwere, the monarch urged traders, market executives, and government officials to give peace a chance and resolve the crisis amicably.
Aremo Olubadan Barr. Sunmbo Owolabi assured stakeholders that the misunderstanding would be resolved soon with the Olubadan’s intervention.
Engineer Kolawole Oyewole, chairman of the traders, alleged threats to demolish their containers despite regular payment of monthly levies.
He revealed that several appeal letters had been written to the state governor and other officials, but to no avail.
The traders solicited the Olubadan’s intervention to protect their means of livelihood during this economic hardship.
The Olubadan’s timely intervention has been commended by stakeholders, who expressed gratitude for his commitment to maintaining peace in the city.
With the monarch’s involvement, a peaceful resolution to the crisis is expected soon, ensuring that the traders’ livelihoods are protected.
