Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun state has released another N500million to the ailing Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, as part of his commitment to solve the financial needs of the institution.

The Governor’s Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Lani Baderinwa made this disclosure while fielding questions from journalists on the Fresh FM (105:9) weekly South West political circuit programme in Ibadan, Oyo state capital.

The commissioner said Aregbesola had earlier paid N1billion into the coffer of the institution, jointly owned by Oyo and Osun states. He however regretted that its counterpart only paid N500million.

With the latest disbursement, Aregbesola had paid N1.5billion into the institution, leaving Ajimobi to also make good his promise for the school to run effectively well.

The Commissioner’s position coincided with the confirmation of the said N500million by the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Me. Lekan Fadeyi.

Fadeyi on Saturday said in a press release that the Osun State government released the sum of N500m to the school as part of its commitment to bail LAUTECH out of cash crunch.

Fadeyi said, “To further demonstrate its commitment to the continued existence of the LAUTECH, the Osun State government has fulfilled its promise to release the sum of N500m to the University.

“The said amount that was promised last week by the state Governor Rauf Aregbesola hit the institution’s account on Friday.  Governor Aregbesola had while receiving members of the Governing Council and Vice-Chancellor of LAUTECH, Prof Adeniyi Gbadegesin, last week, explained that the state was committed to the welfare of staff and students of the Institution.

“He told the visitors that on no occasion had Osun State wanted to shy away from its responsibility to LAUTECH, adding that his government was proud of the various giant strides of the university. The governor appealed to staff and students to continue with the good works aimed at sustaining its present position in the committee of tertiary institutions, focusing on the fact that all would be well soon.”

Fadeyi said in the statement that the VC was glad that the state had shown its commitment as a part owner of LAUTECH.

“The Vice Chancellor thanked governor and people of Osun for their support for the school, while also appealing that they further demonstrate love to the university and its workers, through adequate funding,” the statement added
